KSully
Ok, I do realize that I will be coughing more since I've stopped the analogs (and the phlegm my lungs are getting rid of...ewww!) But, it seems I'm coughing every time i vape. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong. I watched the video about getting a lot of vapor with Chris (thanks, helped...I think..haha)! I'm using the 16mg carto from vapornine. I don't know. It's not horrible enough for me to stop or go back to analogs, but I just want to know if I'm doing something wrong! Or if it will get better after my lungs are cleared! thanks all!
AimeeG
The coughing will get better! It is (most likely) your body ridding itself of the awful stuff from the analogs. As a side note, I sometimes still cough on my first vape hit of the morning. Throat hit is not something I especially enjoy, nor seek out. Vape on! DevilDucky
If it keeps up you could also be sensitive to PG you may want to look into a reduced PG liquid or a VG based liquid. But I would wait before doing that until your body gets adjusted to vaping versus analogs so you can see if it clears up on it's own. I know my lungs went through a cleaning cycle of their own when a made the switch! Edit: Almost forgot make sure you drink plenty of water that will also help a lot of the left over stuff from the analogs get flushed out of your system! Jeffb
Great advice so far. Especially about keeping yourself hydrated. I still cough now and then. Its usually when Im vaping a lot. I tend to cough more when vaping a lot of VG, but Im weird that way.

Christopher
Yup always keep some water close by to drink and keep your throat moist. Also when you vape, be sure that you pull the vapor into your lungs and then inhale rather than "direct inhaling" this will make the throat hit a little less harsh. But in time, the coughing will go away For now try taking smaller drags so you can get used to the PG.
B80
I had the same experience, and thought there was something wrong with or that I was doing it wrong too. I did end up switching to PG/VG mix, and I do still notice a sensitivity if the liquid's not mixed right, but the coughing has definitely gotten better over time. I think that it was my lungs cleaning themselves out.
rcummings5886
I would say if the coughing doesn't clear up in the first month do what others have mentioned and try a vg mix. In my short (in comparison to other in this forum) affair with vaping I have already come across someone who is allergic to to vapor from my pv and that is my mother. When I first started using these I was using a pg only blend and she was ecstatic I had quit smoking. Shortly after being home I notice her coughing and sneezing more than usual. So I stopped using my pv in the main part of the house and she no longer had those problems. Since then I have switched to vg mixes while at home to avoid having my mother go in to an asthma attack lol. So just be weary of how your body is reacting. If you have any other scent related allergies check out a vg mix and see if it helps. Edited December 31, 2010 by rcummings5886
Brian
I think Chris meant to say pull the vapor into your mouth, then inhale. You want to fill you mouth with vapor before you inhale. Some smokers would inhale and they drew on the cigarette... with vaping this can be quite harsh.
nitekap
Maybe not water, but the drink of your choice. mine is gin and tonic, that may effict my spilling. Really lots of water, thats what my ice is made from, lol
Prouddad
Same thing was happing to me and someone told me to try a mix 50/50 PG/VG and it help. Also the coughing will get better, my throat and chest was hurting when I started and all is well now. One month in. Good Luck
ColGaunt
I had the same problem when I started vaping as well. I coughed for about 3 weeks and then it totally stopped. I would suggest giving it some more time and as has been mentioned keep some liquids near when you vape as vaping does have the tendency to dry out your mouth. How long have you been coughing? Hatchet
Hi KSully, I went through the purging process too. I still cough occasionally but not like before. When you see the phrase "throat hit" mentioned this usually ends up meaning the physical feeling in the bottom of your throat or top of your lungs you get from the e-juice. This can make me cough if it's strong. From what I've read the amount of nicotine and PG base in the mixture influence this. The more nicotine the more throat hit and the more PG base the more throat hit. There are some companies that sell e-juice where you can regulate the amount of throat hit. vikingvapor.com and vaporrenew.com are two of them that come to mind. Both also allow several mixes of PG & VG bases. I hope this helps. Hang in there! It's worth it. Hatchet

deneese
I have been vaping for 3 months and just started coughing 3 weeks ago. Thr coughing is taking place mostly at night when im laying down to go to sleep. It is extremely frustrating as nothing seems to levitate it. I just switched yesterday from pg to vg and there is no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Bebop
Because the coughing just started, I'm going to suggest that it's not a sensitivity to pg. It is possible that it is still your lungs recovering from not smoking. And remember, vaping dehydrates you which has a lot to do with your body's ability to flush itself out. It could also be a product of how much you are vaping too. I think you can expect a fairly long respiratory recovery cycle of a year or more I'm not a doctor, but if it persists I would get it checked out

You dont want to introduce contaminates And it just might not be related o vaping at all . you never know I would see your doctor if it does continue .
