Legal Info About A Car

Recommended Posts

ways back me and my fiance moved to FL.

her uncle said i could keep my car on his property till i could drop in some parts.

came up to drop in the parts and drive it back, it was gone, he wouldn't return phone calls etc.

now i'm pretty sure my car (years later) has popped up in my hometown. (pretty rare car)

i still need to check the vin on the car though.

is there anything i can do if it is my car to get it back?

i tried to file a report of my car being stolen but the cops here said they wouldn't take a report but would take his number and try to figure it out.

called weekly and it seemed like they ended up blocking my number at the police office. i gave up.

Aw, man, that does suck! How long was your car on the uncle's property? Did he ask you to remove it?

I had a friend's old raggedy easter egg blue van in my driveway for about 5 years. Boy, it was ugly. 4 flat tires that were too rotted to hold air.. It was immovable and parked just in front of my carport so that I couldn't park under the carport. Junk guys would come by asking if we wanted them to take it away! So after 5 years, I asked my friend if there was any way he could come and get it. He couldn't. It was not allowed to be in the yard or driveway where he lived and he didn't have money to make it run. So he agreed to let me call someone to come and scrap it.

i cant seem to find the title but i have the vin.

theres maybe one or two other places i might have the title but it's not looking good for me.

Sorry dude but as I understand the law,if you leave something

Car boat motorcycle etc,for 6 mo. or more it's considered abandoned

they can do whatever they want with it sell scrap whatever.

If you can prove that you tried to contact this person or went to his

home to try to get your property back you might have a case

otherwise I don't believe you have much chance.

Having said that, laws vary and circumstances can be taken into account

so if the car or the principal of the thing is worth it to you then definitely

pursue it legally.if that don't work an old fashioned a$$ whoopin might be in order:) j/k.

little update.

pulled a carfax report. it shows when the title was transfered to me and my accident in 2001.

after that, nothing.

so that means the car hasn't switched hands.. as far as i can tell.

not sure if you take a car to the scrap if they update that threw the records but i figure it would list the transfer.

recently there was a conquest in the paper, so i was told.

when we drove by there once it looked like the car was placed out there on the main road to be sold and catch attention.

what i am thinking is if this is my car, no transfer of title, and i have a key for it.. go scoop it up.

have someone driving down right now to check the vin.
