BreakingBad
So I have had my Joker for about a week and a half and have been lovin' every minute of it. I have been using a Joye 510 atty I got from Totally Wicked the whole time and have just been drippin at different voltages depending on juice. It has worked fantastic. Last night however, it was doing something weird. I had fresh batteries and my Joye atty. I would go to take a puff, and the light would only stay on for a second or two and then the unit would shut off. To get it to work again, I would have to take the Joker and tap the bottom on it on my palm. After doing that, it would work again, but only for a second or two. Each time, I would have to tap the unit (hearing the batteries move slightly) and then it would work for a couple more seconds. I didn't test any other attys yet, because it was late, I had some beers and they were upstairs. I grabbed a cartomizer I got from Vapor Talk and started using that. It is working with no issues. I am kind of glad this happened, because I now realize that cartos are fantastic on this beast. Just wondering if anyone might know why this was happening with the atty. Maybe something in the unit was getting tripped, I don't know. Thanks.
BirdDog
I had the very same problem that you are experiencing when my upgraded Joker was returned to me. I had a 510 atomizer that I was using on my Ego and when I transferred it to my Joker it would shut the unit off. At the time I was still communicating with Vaprlife about another issue and I told them what happened with that one atomizer. The reply I got from them was that the atomizer had a "dead short" and I should toss it out. When I think back to the atomizer and using it on my Ego, I noticed that the batteries were not operating properly. I hope this atomizer didn't damage my Ego batteries, I haven't used it since I got my Joker back.

This was a new atty when I put it on my Siver Bullet. I then transferred it to the Joker when I got it. I just got a bunch of juices in from Vapor Bomb today and don't want to use a carto so I will try a different atty on it.
Christopher
Are you making sure not to use LR atomizers on your 5 volt units? This will kill the unit.

Chris, you are grossly underestimating me Yeah, I only use LR attys on my Tornado.
BirdDog
I am sure mine was not a LR atty. I have not purchased any LR's. I even doubled checked my atomizer and did not see any markings to indicate that it was an LR. It was straight out of a regular 510 box. Chris does make a good point. Are you sure it is not a LR? - never mind you posted before I could type. Edited September 1, 2010 by BirdDog

TrustinHIM
I'm having the exact same problem with my joker. It started today, and i would tap on it lightly and it would work again. Now the led lights up but no vapor. Batts are charged no lr attys. I tried to run a carto after i read this topic but no luck. I've also noticed that above the silver band is starting to heat up when i press the button. Totally regretting getting the av downgrade.

TrustinHIM
Dude, that sucks. Have you tried to contact Vaprlife about it? Yep, all this just started happening yesterday. I did email about it, but am yet to hear from them. I know it hasn't even been 24 hours yet but they have gotten shady on returning emails. When I received my VP if there was an issue I honestly had a reply with 5 minutes.
Christopher
It might be the center poll. There is a "circle within a circle" on the unit. If you look where your atomizer connects make sure the center poll is flush with the outside fitting. If not use a paper clip through the hole to raise it up gently. (If you atomizer doesn't make contact with that center pole the light will turn on but the atomizer will not receive power)
TrustinHIM
I just raised that a little bit and still nothing. I've also noticed that my light stays blue no matter what. Took off the atty, but in new batts. Stil nothing.

Jeffb
I was having some similar issues with mine. I ended up stretching the spring out a little more. It wasn't making good contact with the batt.

BreakingBad
I just did a review comparing to different kinds of cinnamon juice and for this, I use 2 different attys than the one I was using when I had trouble. I had no problems with these, so yeah, there must be something wrong with this one atty.
Brian
I've had a couple of attys act funny on my Joker also, but work fine on my SB. Also, if you're using the 3V LiFePO4s, they cannot sustain 5.2V under load with a regular 2.2ohm Joye 510 so the light goes blue on every hit. Any time I use a regular atty on it, it goes from Green to Blue right away. I've had one carto that would go from Green to Blue to Off on every hit, but the Joker kept on working fine, just goofy LED response... the unit never shut down. It stopped doing that eventually. Maybe if I cover the LED I won't spend so much time wondering what the unit is doing. LOL!

Maybe if I cover the LED I won't spend so much time wondering what the unit is doing. LOL! I would not ignor the LED or assume that it is not responding correctly. If a standard Joye 510 is 2.2ohms, in my honest opinion that is too low resistance for the Joker. I know everyone seems to be in love with the 510 atty, but since I've discovered the Joye 302 I will never use another 510. In my honest opinion the 510 is small and doesn't hold more than 2 drops, Floods easily, and leaks like hell. I bought my Joker directly from Vaprlife so that I could get it with an 801 fitting and use my 302 attys. I can go 3 or 4 drops with no leaking, and the heat and airflow are just right for great taste and vapor production every time. With that said, the Joye 302 is 3.3ohms nomimally which makes it perfect for use with the Joker. I can always tell when my atty is about to die, and I measure the resistance and the high value verifys that it is gone. A dead or dying atty can jump up to over 100ohms, and of course an open atty is completely dead. I experienced what you described once, and when I measured the resistance of the atty it was 1.7ohms, so I replaced it with a fresh atty and the joker started working like a champ again. A 302 atty should have never measured 1.7ohms, so I'm going to have to look into that a little closer since that atty seemed to work well when I first started to use it. Until that time I have never seen the resistance of an atty drop, so I think something goofy must have happened with the mesh. A while back many people commented that they wished that Vaprlife would make their mods available with a 510 fitting, so Jesso caved in on the Joker, and now we are seeing these issues. This may be just my opinion, but I have been working in electronics for the past 28 years, and I think I am qualified to make these assessments. Brian
I use cartos on my Joker most of the time, but sometimes wish I could use my 302 on it. Last time I tried to use a 302 with an adapter on my SB, it shorted out or something and my batteries got very hot. Been afraid to use a 510 to 801 adapter sicne. Hmmm, with the Joker's safety shut-off, it may be safe to try???

It is better to adapt a bigger fitting to a smaller atty than the other way around.
