JayH503
I've been trying to find pictures or cut-away drawings of cartomizers and atomizers. I opened up a slightly used mega cartomizer yesterday. I was surprised at how well its designed. For only a few bucks! Two air passages to draw vapor up from the coil. (One air passage at each end of the coil) That explains the 2 holes on the rectangular insert that's inside the top of the mouthpiece. The coil has fibers running through it and the ends of those fibers line up with the bottom of the two air passages. The fluid reservoir holds a lot of filler material. The filler is centered over the top of the coil. The one main question I have about cartomizers and atomizers is - Why do they draw fresh air from the bottom, around the battery connector? The bottom of cartomizers and atomizers have small notches cut out between them and the top of the battery to draw in air. The tops of my batteries, around the threaded area, also have notches cut into the metal to let fresh air into the bottom of the cartomizer and atomizer. But all these notches also let E liquid out of the bottom of the cartomizers and atomizers! Why don't cartomizers and atomizers draw fresh air from the side of the main body, about half way up, so E liquid doesn't drip through so much? Am I missing something? Is there a reason for the fresh air inlet to be at the very bottom? I'm still new to all this but I am wondering why these are both designed this way. I know that you'd have to make sure not to cover up a side mounted air inlet with your hand or fingers, but that's also true with bottom air inlets too! Maybe the bottom air inlet is because of design costs? I don't know. I've just been wondering about this for a while!
benjamin1990
it might be cause stuff can get into the air inlets if its just out in the open where as the holes are covered my the battery with the design now. and they can tweek the holes and stuff to make better airflow. idk that just my opinion. idk what im talking about. lol
Roober
If it were from the side, it would not pass directly through the coil, which is where you get the vapor from. Thus, you wouldnt get as much vapor production. That is my theory.

I don't know for sure though. I'm just tired of E Liquid running out of the bottom. LOL
Roober
Wellll... a good way to stop the leaks is to just drip 2 drops at a time, and you should be golden... I agree with you though, it would be nice if they didnt leak so much. Thats part of the reason we all so highly recommend the ego, it comes with a cone that goes over the atty and any juice that gets leaked out is held in by the cone. You could literally flood it on purpose and still vape most of it up
DAYVAPE
Ahhh, cartomizers!

My two eGo's came with cone shaped atomizers. No cone covers. I thought the cone covers were mostly for looks. I was wrong. I've been trying to just drip in a couple of drops at a time. I really need to buy a drip tip though. I've been pulling the empty cartridge off each time, and when I pop it back on I think the slight pressure inside is pushing liquid out through the bottom a little bit. I'm guessing. JayH503
Ahhh, cartomizers! I bought two TW Mega cartomizers recently. I liked them (A LOT) at first, but then it started developing a plastic taste. I don't know? They leak out the bottom too, just not as much. Do they have a plastic taste to them after a short time? What brand/type are they?
mcquinn
They all will leak if you get too much liquid in them. The vapor is produced in the vicinity of the element and if the air didn't pass through there it would stay there. It really is amazing the way atties and carto's are engineered and built for the price we pay and that is marked up over the cost to produce them to cover shipping and handling and to allow our supplier buddies to make some coin. DAYVAPE
NO leakage for me.. I just use standard 510 cartos, at 4.5 volts . Perfect in every way. Work great at 5 volts as well though. I wasn't nearly as happy at 3.7v as I am at the higher voltages. They just work THAT much better a little higher.

By the way... there shouldn't be any pressure if you don't block the hole in the mouthpiece with your thumb or finger. I did that when I started and got leakage every time... until I realized I was the cause!
bobthesalesclerk
Yesterday was the first time I ever had a carto leak on me. I just tried to cram way to much into it lol. Also I do not use my cone while drippign with the ego, I just don't prefer it. Cone with carto no cone with dripping and I have never had a problem with leakage. DAYVAPE
By the way... there shouldn't be any pressure if you don't block the hole in the mouthpiece with your thumb or finger. I used to push my cart on from the top and found I was blocking the little hole... causing it to push out the holes in the bottom and leak. I did that when I started and got leakage every time... until I realized I was the cause! Yeah, what he said... JayH503
Only been vapin for a month now! I recently purchased some 510 atomizers and 510 cartomizers. They are workin great! Until a few days ago, I had only used large cone shaped atomizers that came with my double eGo starter kit and a couple of Mega cartomizers from TW. These 510's are GREAT!
