LoriHNC Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 My only source of using 5v is my 5v passthrough. I have returned one already because the manual button would stick. Madvapes graciously exchanged it for a new one. I've been using it with a carto plugged into an AC outlet for a few days now. Today, I saw a little juice leakage seeping from the bottom where the led and cord are. I wiped it off and hoped it was just from running down the side of the PT. But then I just got a SIZZLE and "what looked like" smoke from the carto. Now, I guess it could be the button sticking again but...I immediately unplugged it. I don't wanna use it now without it being looked at. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought they were sealed where the carto or atty connects to it but on mine, theres a tiny hole in the center. I hope the wires inside are covered and protected in some way. Ugh! I love using the 5v with a regular 510 carto. Now I can't.
nana Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Sorry, I've never had anything like that happen. I'd be cautious about it, too. What kind of PT do you have? I'm sure someone who knows something will be here soon to give you some good advice. In the mean time, probably best to not use it. You have my sympathies though. I love my 5v PTs, too, and would miss them terribly if I couldn't use them.
Brian Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 One thing I do before putting on a carto is gently blow through it to blow out any excess juice. I also always remove the carto before dripping into it (the two times I didn't remove it I got big messes - juice seemed to run straight through it). I had two of the regular 510 PT when I first started vaping and neither one of them lasted more than a week or two. However, some have had good luck with them.
Jolly Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 a manual should never have a hole. that's not a rule but with the problems that are caused with the hole why would someone put in one like that? the sizzle you heard, i am thinking was just juice burning. taking apart the pt isn't really an option unless you have before. if you want, you could send it to me i'll gut it, fill the hole. clean her out, and ship her back (with your prepaid shipping label enclosed in the box)

Thats very kind of you. I have only had this PT for about 2 weeks since I exchanged it because the first one was doing something similar. I was assuming it was the button sticking after hearing the sizzle so I returned it for another. I think it might be the design of these particular ones. Like you said, why would they put that hole in the center. It's asking for juice to go there. I just looked at the description for it and it says it has a sealed 510 connector. The picture shows no hole, but mine has it. http://www.madvapes.com/MadVapes-5-Volt-510-Manual-USB-Passthrough_p_2155.html Maybe mine isn't really a through hole and might be sealed under that but I don't know. You're probably right that the sizzle is just juice burning but it's scared me cuz now when I plug it in, it sizzles without pressing the manual button. I think what I'm going to do first is talk to Mark at Madvapes on Monday and see if he has a solution without having to put you through that. I will let you know though. I'm sure you would have her sealed up as tight as a......hmmm I could put so many statements here, but I'll be nice lol

Not sure what kind it is or brand Nana, but it's this one http://www.madvapes.com/MadVapes-5-Volt-510-Manual-USB-Passthrough_p_2155.html I'm gonna be using a LR atty or carto on 3.7v until I get it fixed which is good too
Jolly Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 no prob, keep me on speed dial if you do need me. i have seen some that have a pit in the positive terminal. for the life of me i have no clue why. i could understand if it was a hole, but a pit? like some guy was drilling and said; "i have had it with these tiny pieces of metal, I QUIT!". my guess is that mads, supplier ended up running out of connections or dumped the wrong parts into these when they were assembled. funny i should come home to this post, i was at lowes looking for wire that was thin yet in a durable casing to make a batch of near indestructible PTs. i hear so many people talking about how they break pts, like chuck norris and wood. when i hear that, i feel compelled to ask; "are you playing double dutch or something?"

I'll let ya know Monday after I drive over to Madvapes with this and see what they say. Thanks again
LoriHNC Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 Jolly, I exchanged the PT at Madvapes for one that IS plugged. Thank you for your offer to fix it though. This one seems to work great.
NeRo9k Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I'm glad to hear that they took care of your problem!
