Roober
we need computer help. EJ's computer is turning on but wont boot. It started out being able to run a little, then it would just shut down. Eventually would not turn on at all, we used a power supply tester and its not that. We swapped ram around to troubleshoot, not that either. It's not the video card because it wont run even without it. Tried to hook my power supply to his comp, wouldnt work at all. We dont know what else it could be : Any ideas? When you are testing the power supply are you testing the amplifier inside the machine or the plug into the back of the computer? What to you see when you turn on? Can you see the BIOS load? or any text on the monitor at all?

mcquinn
If it was the hard drive you would get a message about not finding a file does it beep?Remove the memory and it should beep beep beep does the CPU cooler fan run? There is protection on most puters that will not let it boot up if it does not get an RPM signal from the CPU cooler.I have had two do this recently and it was motherboard failure ,hope you come out better than I did although I did get a nice e-machine from WalMart for $400.00 with Windows 7 on it. FTJoe
I had one that the PSU was the issue...no beeps or nothing. Another was a bad memory bank.
Jolly
she is replacing the mobo tomorrow, maybe over here. i just hope it takes ddr1 because i don't have any other ram than old school stuff. an emachine wouldn't work for her needs. wouldn't be able to play games with an acceptable frame rate. i have a feeling a newegg order is going to have to come into play, the crystal ball says asus. FTJoe
I have my son's old machine sitting around. Been stripping it for parts. If needed, PC3200 memory, decent motherboard, okay its a KN1Lite, I think an ATX case/PSU/DDR3200 (512x2). Let me know. Machine was great but he inherited my wife's old Think Pad T42 and while the rig could game, he's an XBOX 360 player. I have some decent 1GB-2GB sticks of DDR2 around as well when I picked up cheap (cheap no more). http://www.pcplanetsystems.com/abc/product_details.php?category_id=119&item_id=1314
