Joey 302 On An 801 Adapter

Recommended Posts

When I got my SB a while back I read that altsmoke says not to use a Joye 302 on a 510 to 801 adapter. Apparently the connection on the 302 is slightly different. Pffft. Of coure, I tried it, but could never get the 302 to work on any of the adapters I have. Anyhow, this weekend I wanted to compare the 302 at 6V with the BE112. I've been using the BE112 for a little over a week and really like it at 6V, but I've got several 302s I'd like to be able to use.

I had the BE112 on the SB and was going to try the 302 on the Omega. Couldn't get it to work. I tinkered around with it, thought the unit was getting a little warm, but didn't think much of it. So then it finally started working. I got about two toots and noticed that the unit was now VERY warm. I opened it up and removed the batteries and they were VERY HOT! Not hot enough to burn my skin or anything, but hotter than I've ever seen one get. Little scary. I won't be doing that again.

The batteries took about 20 minutes to cool all the way down. I left them alone for about an hour and they've been working fine. I guess the 302s will be for the VP/PT.

Just thought I'd share this. I know there are people out there using the 302 on an adapter, just be careful.
