Michelle Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I am due for another 7" or so of snow tomorrow and we still have a deep snowpack from the last two storms. I have to shovel the backyard so the dogs have a place to go and already they aren't happy with my selected area. Usually in Ohio we get snow, it melts, we get some more, it melts, and so on. The things that have been most annoying this winter are the COLD and the WIND. And, here we go again with both. I just wish it would snow with 30 degree temps and no wind. A nice, quiet snow is all I ask. Not this bitterly cold, blowing junk. All of that being said, I'm not a fan of spring due to severe weather, so I'll take snow until next November, but sheesh...let's have some melting now and then! Sorry...just venting. <---my forecast
ddavelarsen Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) I hear you Michelle! We've had about 54" since Dec 1 and haven't seen ground since. And it's snowing as we speak, another 5" expected. At least it's not blowing ... yet. That comes this evening. I'll be out there either late tonight or in the morning shoveling that crap so I don't pack it down in the driveway when I back out. I'm getting kinda tired of it too. There's a 6-ft pile of snow at the sides of the driveway I can't see around. Sigh. Edit: But I taught my dog to just lumber through the snow and use the white surface. I told her it was that or hold it until April. Edited February 14, 2010 by ddavelarsen
nana Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I agree with you, Michelle, about the cold and wind. The wind is just howling here this morning. We had several days of below 0 for highs and even and -25 for lows. Which meant windchills of up to -60. That's really cold for here. We've had a lot of snow here, too, but I don't know exactly how much. We'd get 8 to 12 inches or so, then get more a few days later. It really piled up for awhile. We did have a few days with highs in the 40's and 50's though, so that melted a great deal of our snow. Of course that meant a lot of water in our back yard and it was pretty much a swamp for awhile. Which is not fun when you have to go out into it and clean up the dog poop. Otherwise, for the last couple of weeks we're only getting dustings of snow. Not so bad. I like the kind of snow you described, too, but I don't think we've had any of that this year. It's all come with tremendous amounts of wind and cold. Just wanted to let you know I feel your pain. Vent any time. I sure do understand.
Knight Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 As a Nebraskan born-and-raised, now living in Georgia, you guys would not believe what happens here when it snows. We got about 3-4" on Friday, and even before it started snowing (Thursday night) they started cancelling school all across the state! By Saturday evening, the roads were clear from melting, but there was even several churches that cancelled services today (Sunday). Plus, there is no bread, milk, or batteries in the stores until Monday. I can only recall having school cancelled maybe 3-4 times growing up in the Midwest. That said, I can't recall many winters like what you guys are getting this year!
JHammy Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Its the best when you wake up and look out the window and see nothing but clear sunny skies. i love San Diego Weather.

But we must be getting soft out here - they've cancelled school quite a few times this year, and my work was closed one day and closed early another; that's just unheard of.
stltransporter Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 well the snow we had is finally gone but its supposed to snow again this weekend I am getting tired of digging cars out of it to load them and my normally white truck is a sickly gray now with black streaks. The temps here are about 15 degrees colder then it is supposed to be now and thats getting annoying as well. I keep asking to be sent southbound but it hasnt happened since the new year began
