gail
Hi. I am new to this and need some help. I just received my new Joye 510, charged the batteries, dripped some juice (about 12 drops) in a blank cart and something is wrong. First of all, the cart doesn't fit flush with the battery. When I push the manual button down, I see the blue light from the opening between the cart and battery, but not from the tip. Also, I'm hearing a crackling noise. I'm getting some vapor, but not much. This is my very first experience so I feel like I must be doing something wrong. I've already tried changing atty's. It doesn't taste very good but I read where that's to be expected at first. Help! Gail
BirdDog
I am not sure what you mean by the cart is not flush with the battery. The 510 is made up of 3 parts, 1. Battery, 2. Atomizer and 3. Cartridge. They go together in that order. I am not sure how you can see a light between the battery and the cart? The led is only located at the tip of the battery. The atomizer screws onto the battery and the cart snaps/slides into the atomizer. The popping sound is from a dry atomizer. A bubbling sound will mean the atomizer is flooded. Can you post a picture, maybe it might make more sense what you mean by flush? Try watching this video. It really helped me when I bought my 510. I watched a couple times and it answered a lot of questions. 510 review Edited January 12, 2010 by BirdDog

gail
Okay my bad on that video that is more of review. Try this one is a bit more instructional. How to use a 510 Ok guys, I did it wrong. It's now put together correctly. Don't ask. Let's just say I'm not very good with machinery . Now could someone please answer another question. I got some blank carts (order from Arno). I wanted to try something other than the gross stuff in the pre-filled carts that came with the starter kit. I'm wondering if I put too much juice in it (12 drops). How many do you usually put? Also, the atomizer gets pretty hot after only a few drags. Is that normal. I'm so glad I found this forum a few days ago. Believe it or not I have read many posts here. I guess I have to see it and feel it to learn it. You guys are tops. Thanks!
Brian
If you look into the cart you want it to look kinda like a slushy. Yes, those prefilled carts are pretty nasty. You can take the filler out of the cart and rinse it off with water and dry it with a paper towel. If you're hearing a bubbling when you take a drag then you've flooded your atty. You can roll up a little piece of paper towel or tissue and insert it into the atty and let it sit for a few minutes to absorb out the excess juice. There is a learning curve so don't get frustrated. There are a lot of great members and we love to help. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. Oh - yes they do tend to get a little hot. You need to let it cool down a little. Also, be sure to take long slow drags. You can't hit it like a regular cigarette. You want to take about a 5 second drag, but gently (slow). mcquinn
That sounds like a lot for a 510,I am using some lemon from Awesome Vapor that tastes kinda like the Lemonhead candy at the theater ,maybe not as strong but quite good for me I also have some peach and it is nice.I did not care for any of the tobacco flavors I tend to use the coffees and frooty ones.I just fill it until the drops don't soak in as fast ,if you get a puddle of liquid just flick it toward a trash can and the excess will drip off. When it does this, just put it down for minute or two. I do not use the carts, so I can't really answer this question. I think Brian did a pretty good job on that one. If you get frustrated with using the carts you should try a direct drip. Sorry for the link to another video. How to direct drip

Thanks again guys. I'll try it again with some bannana flavoring I got. I've got some unflavored juice and some LorAnn flavoring on the way. I did get kinda frustrated. Right after I got my supplies in the mail and charged the batteries and was trying to figure everything out, the cable went out (the worse that could happen with one member of my household)...so some back and forth going on there. Immediately after that my four year old grandson came to visit and after being here approximately three minutes, fell and hit his head on the vacuum cleaner, requiring a visit to the ER and stitches. Poor thing. He's okay now. When I got home I was a little flustered. I'm going to calm down and do this thing. Thanks again. Really! Gail
VegasVapor
Welcome to the forum Gail. Sounds like everyone else has already done a good job of helping you out, so not much more I can say. If you get too frustrated with cartridges, I do suggest trying out direct dripping. About 95% of us on this forum probably direct drip. The other 5% will eventually get there. LOL Sorry to hear about all the bad stuff that just happened. Hopefully everything is alright.
kitsune
So sorry to hear about your grandson and cable--everything goes wrong when you are trying to learn something new and something you really, really want. Keep working at it--it all comes together eventually. keep asking and we will help. we really, really want you to succeed. you will get to the point where you can sit in the ER and vape. Been there !!! When adding liquid to the cart--blank--(filling with no liquid)-add the drops slowly and allow to absorb until the top of the filling stays wet. The gurgling is an overfill--vape a bit and it will dissipate. Happy Vaping
nana
Looks like you've gotten plenty of very helpful advice, Gail. So I'll just give you a great big warm welcome to Vapor Talk. Don't worry about the learning curve, we'll help you. Sorry about your rough day. I'm sure it will get better and better though - especially when you're vaping! Hope your grandson is doing fine now. I have 6 grandchildren - ages 1 thru 10. Good luck with the vaping and join in on the fun here, too. Even though these people are wonderful with the help, they know how to have fun, too. I filled an empty cart with cinnamon but still doesn't taste good. I'm still going outside for analogs but I know it'll get better because too many people love it for it not to be good. It's so great to have a community like this to come to.
FTJoe
Welcome - I was very frustrated at first as well with the 510. These guys helped out a ton. I went to a direct drip and that was great, really seemed to solve many of my problems. Next went to another model, had some issues after a while and finally went back to the 510. Direct dripping IMO is a pain so in the spirit of too much information, I now use something called a PTB mod. Instead of that weird filler in the cartridge, you roll up part of a special teabag and I think it makes it so much easier!! But before we get there, get comfortable with the 510 first. ;-)

Forgot to mention that there is a "break-in" period for a new atty. Taste and vapor wise it takes 1-2 hours for an atty to really get going good. After that break-in period, you should get better flavor and vapor.

For me, there was a "conversion" period because I was expecting the vapor to taste like my Marlboro Ultra Lights, and it just doesn't. Add the break-in period for the atty that someone else mentioned, and you end up with "nasty" first impressions. Give yourself time to adjust to the new experience, and I think you'll adjust fine. It may also take some trial and error to find a juice that appeals to you. Here's to making a successful transition to vapor life.
kitsune
Hey Gail--Some atty's have a nasty tasting primer liquid on them. Use the corner of papertowel, push into the atty and let sit for a few minutes--reprime the atty with 2-3 drops of liquid and vape--that might help a bit. breaking in an atty can take a couple hours to a couple days--I promise it get soooooo much better. Thanks again everyone! I hope this isn't a duplicate post but my first one went to cyber heaven. I work out of town so decided to wait til I got back home to continue the vaping. I think the juice I got was too strong for me as it was very harsh. I don't have my supplies with me but I think it was 24mg. I had one bottle of a lower mg. but it didn't taste good. I was getting ready to leave so I just put it aside til I return. Also, I was having heart palpatations after vaping. I've got some lower mg. juice coming that should be there when I get home. I read somewhere that when you direct dip you have to do it very, very often. That has been my hesitancy. I work 12 hour shifts at night and sleep during the day but I'll check back as soon as I can. Thank you all so very much!
Jeffb
Hi gail, heart palpatations isnt good. How much did you smoke before? With direct dripping you do have to drip often, depending of course how much you vape.

With direct dripping you do have to drip often, depending of course how much you vape. I smoke approximately one pack of Basic Light 100's/day. I thought I read something about heart palpatations as a side effect. Was it the PG vs. VG? When I have time I'll do more research. I vaped much more than I smoked, but started cutting the nic down after a little bit. I started at 24mg but made sure I vaped pretty much each time I would have smoked. Still went outside even at home, etc. Once I stared cutting it down, I started vaping more but figured I was safe. Having said that, there are some here doing 48mg...
