Stealth Vaping

Recommended Posts

Okay man, you're my hero for today! :Dthumbsup.gif

I don't stealth vape. There's nothing wrong with vaping at all, and I'm not going to let anyone intimidate me into thinking I'm some subhuman cur. That said, I don't flaunt it either. At work I vape normally at my desk; occassionally a fairly large cloud of vapor will rise above my cube and I think 'better tone that down!' And I do. Coworkers once asked what was going on and I explained and demonstrated (openly). They're thrilled, I've tried to quit smoking for as long as some of these folks have been alive! :) I sit about three workstations away from one of the VPs; he's never even noticed. I suppose when HR gets wind of this they'll try to crack down. I'm ready for them with my little CD packed full of anti-naysayer data. ;) But if they do determine there's no vaping in the office, then I will comply. Or go stealth... :D

For several years now, most of my co-workers and I have adopted the philosophy that it's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. That way of thinking fits vaping pretty well, I think.

I walked into Starbucks this morning, absently vaping away. I'm not sure if it was the LED glowing, or what, but no one said a thing. Maybe because it was so obvious that the black 510 with the blue LED was not a cigarette.

OOOOOOOh. I vaped at Avatar 3D Imax--talk about the perfect experience.

Dave--I try to stay under the bosses radar--I kinda need my Job. Her and I do not seem to see eye to eye on anything. She's the type that smiles then stabs you in the back. But I still love vaping at work. when she pulled me into her office last month to discuss smoking on campus--I was able to honestly tell her I hadn't smoked in months, of course no names were mentioned.

I would be curious to know what the hospital's policy is toward the nicotine inhalers that people use to quit smoking. If they are allowed, the hospital and your boss would have a difficult time enforcing the exclusion of vaping. The only difference is the lack of vapor cloud with the nicotine inhalers. Unfortunately, unreasonable people tend to maintain their unreasonable ways even in the face of facts.

I recently went to a resturant to watch a NFl game and just put my ecig in plain sight so the waiter could see it..He made no comment on it so I used it as normal and I heard some comments from around the area but paid no attention. They must have thought I was smoking LOL...Later another waiter came by and told me he had bought a BLU kit and asked me how I liked my 510.So I guess its fine to use since they didnt stop me or anything.I am going to try that everywhere I eat out.Seems to work being upfront about it and letting them see or know ahead of time!!!

The more I use in public the more people seem to know about/heard of them in the last few months is astounding!!!

Being polite and positive is the best way to get complete social acceptance!!!! And its coming along well in what I have seen out there....

Yep, that's my policy too. Saturday I had breakfast with a bunch of IT guys (that's a story in itself). I always just set my VP2 and juice bottle on the table when I sit down and vape whenever the notion takes me. These guys still comment on it -- largely curiosity and amazement my brother and I don't smoke, and partially I think because they're concerned someone is going to take offense. No restaurant person has ever commented. Anyway, there were two retired [assumption] couples seated at the next table. I was letting fairly healthy* clouds of vapor go, and though they noticed they said nothing. No smell, no problem. And the VP2 is obviously not a cigarette! I think people often mistake it for a medical device. ;)

*pun was lucky, not intentional

Wow, good point! I'm adding that to my HR arsenal.

Asking forgiveness rather than permission is definitely my standard decision mode. My theory about vaping at work (which would not work everywhere) is to just do it and establish up front that there's no ugly social consequence. My only concern is that HR gets wind of it before there's a critical mass of vapers, and applies the standard knee-jerk position response: Niet!

As it stands, I'm the only vaper among a thousand employees in our building. Not the most favorable odds. But I am arming myself with rational arguments. The day will come - sooner than later I expect - when smoking is prohibited on the entire campus. My goal is to establish vaping as a viable alternative for the smokers. (I've tried to inform them about it obviously, but no takers so far. As usual, I'm standing alone. I'm good for it.)

As you can see, stealth vaping is not my choice. If nothing else I believe it sets a bad precedent that we think there's something inherently not-okay about it. I will not take that position. There is nothing wrong about vaping and I'm not going to act like there is.

someone once mentioned a different reaction would be caused by a white e-cig with a red tip than a black one with a blue tip for instance. if the observer really didn't know about vaping they would probably think they had lost their mind LOL!!

One of the Many things I love about my 801! No way to confuse it with a cig. Looks like a pen, lights up blue, doesn't stink! Yay!

I usually hit it a couple of times just before picking up passengers & just after dropping. If the passenger is a smoker, I happily indulge and answer questions. I Really need to get around to ordering something from the VT store so I can get some cards to hand out.
