StevenP
Heard the stories before, but didn't think it was a common thing... I was watching a movie on my computer, vaping away on the Chinese manual pass-through. I kept it in my hands as I watched the movie, didn't put it down, then noticed heat come out of the atomizer. I looked at the pass-through, the light wasn't on. But I heard the little noise it makes, when a current is running when you press the button. It was still on!! Pressed the button, nothing, then I went to unscrew the atomizer and the damn thing was super hot!! I almost drop the pass-through right there! I suspect the killing of 2 of my atties may have been this pass-through! I manage to save the atty, lucky, I'd had just drip a few drops and filled the cart up with juice but it was all dry of juice! I let it cool and it still vaped, thank god, it was a new atty also. Hope it doesn't ruin it. One thing is for sure, I'm NOT going to be using these POS Chinese pass-through, going to place an order for the VP-PT tomorrow. This certainly scared the hell outta me. So from now on, I'm going to unscrew the atty's when I'm not using them for long periods of time...
Christopher
Good thing your ok! One thing that helps is taking the atomizer off any passthrough when your not using it. Anothing thing is to make sure you plug the passthrough in first, THEN the atomizer. This will help prevent any surge.
Brian
I'm pretty convinced that those PT's were responsable for my early vaping problems. One died, the other I don't use any more. I thougt I had 4 bad atty's. Since then I've been able to get 3 of them to work, kinda, but they are not "right". I really think the PT was frying them. StevenP
Hey! Thanks guys. @Chris - Thanks, I've conditioned myself to remove atties from batteries and the pass-through ever since a few batteries died due to juice flowing in when I had them assembled so didn't want to go through that again. It's a good thing I caught this when I did, I was just about to head to the bathroom when I felt heat resonating from the atty. I was more shocked at how hot it got, it felt like I was touching a frying pan. I was sure the light wasn't on but kept hearing the buzzing sound. Even hit the switch a few times, I had to unplug it to stop the damn thing. These things are POS quality for sure. @Brian - I'm certainly convinced that this Chinese pass-through killed my 2 atties, these 2 atties I had were in perfect condition before putting it on the Chinese PT. I wish I knew earlier, I just simply thought that atties ran it's course.
ddavelarsen
Yet another demonstration that we should remove attys when the unit's not in use. I never do that though. Let's hope I learn before I cause havoc in my own home, but honestly that's not my strong suit... I'm workin on it. Yikes man, I'm glad it worked out okay - for this atty at least. nana
Wow! Good info here. I never take the atty off my 510 passthrough, I just unplug it from the computer when I'm not using it. Guess I've been doing that all wrong. I haven't ruined any attys yet, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't be using it. And here I've been recommending them to people. But I've liked mine so well and haven't had any problems with it. I was using it a lot when I was worried about the weather and the possiblity of losing power. I wanted to save my other batteries in case we did lose power. Hmmm.....
keenan
I havent had that happen with my passthrough, but I have had it happen with 3 batts. I actually got a blister on my thumb from one of them, they do get SUPER hot ! Guess I better watch the passthru now. But Ive been using it for 3 months now, and no probs. BirdDog
That was a scary story. So glad that you caught it in time. You were very lucky, I have read that some of the Chinese PT have even caused damage to computers. I have the VP/PT and I love it. I had a couple noobie issues with it in the beginning, but Chris was quick to walk me through them. I truly believe in either unplugging the unit when not in use or removing the atomizer. Let me add that the vapor production and general operation of the VP/PT is amazing. Edited December 29, 2009 by BirdDog
nana
Glad to hear that, BirdDog. I'm looking forward to finding out for myself. Hopefully in the next few days.
