keenan Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) This guy is using Snus in his Janty Stick. Now, I have not heard of this before. It appears to be a couple of months old. My question is, arent you vaping tobacco ? Doesnt this kind of defeat the purpose of vaping ? Edited December 28, 2009 by keenan
DannyBoyfromWashington Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Hmmm,.. Well I guess he is not actualy burning the tobacco and I do not know much about snus, but he says it has been pasturized to food grade(not real positive how that affects all the other ingredients in tobacco) but it would seem that he is just vaporizing the vg that has soaked the nic and flavor of the snus pouch into it. Hmmm,.. this may be a viable last ditch effort to get around a e-juice ban, but I do not see it being a very efficient alternative to e-juice unless e-juice does get banned (which I do not see happening since vapers are becoming a force to be reconed with). All in all, I think it is kinda silly, but in a worst case scenario it might work.
mcquinn Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) SNUS is pasteurized tobacco ,the advantage is for some reason you don't have to spit. You just swallow the juice.I have used it in the past and it is ok ,more expensive than regular dip .Some call it spit free or spitless tobacco.A lot of e-liquid is made by steeping tobacco in a liquid to get the flavor and nicotine from it,then filtered or clarified.I would think it would not vape as long as the poly unless you drip some VG into it every so often. It most likely would work best with flavored SNUS as the flavor is just sprayed on or soaked in flavoring .I get a kick out of this kind of stuff and the creative ways to fold teabags. The food grade comment was reffering to the VG. Ok, I guess I was refering to the part where he said "Pasturized tobacco, processed in sweden to food standards". Still not sure what processing tobacco to "food standards" is.
mcquinn Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I am not sure about that one ,Camel has American made SNUS and that is what I used.Maybe since you can swallow the juice instead of spitting it he considers it food.I beleive he vaped too much of something in the 70's a lttle on the wired side I think.
Schizophretard Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 You could probably buy a can of that stuff and let it soak in a jar full of VG, PG, or 50/50 then transfer the juice into bottles for direct dripping. After I get done with my mod spending spree I'll probably get bored and get into DIY. I'll definitely have this as one of my experiments.
mcquinn Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 One of the drawbacks of trying to make your own nic juice is getting it filtered properly.Stock up on atty's ,some of the domestic brands plug up the atty's ,I don't know if it is the flavoring or the nic juice.I also don't think the flavor you would extract from non flavored tobacco would give the desired results,i.e. soaking your favorite analog's in PG and then vaping the results will not be the same as lighting one up.Have fun half the fun of vaping is playing mad scientist.
Schizophretard Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I think I would try to just get the nic out and add flavor.
mcquinn Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 There are places to get no flavor nic juice for mixing.http://www.diyflavorshack.com/default.asp is where I get flavors for boosting the weak liquid. They have a long lead time for shipping but are worth the wait.Lotsa little freebies and goodies.
jmhester Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I saw this video awhile back and did some research on Snus. It seems as it is not as cancer causing as other tobacco products and seems generally safe. The process of burning the tobacco is what releases the harmful stuff from what I've been reading. I think the Snus would be much less harmful to the lungs since you don't have the tar extracted through burning. Nicotine vaporizes at about 95F and our atomizers run at about 120F, so from that I would guess that mostly nicotine would be extracted from the Snus if you vaped it. Maybe some of the other chemicals would, too. I think the best way is to extract the nicotine per this method: http://www.e-cig.com/shopping/shopcontent.asp?type=eliqrecipes I think I would use Snus for this since the pasturization process seems to render out some of the harmful chemicals.

I know. I'm talking about experimenting with extracting out the nic just in case the FDA of the future sends a terminator back in time to kill e-juice.
mcquinn Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 It does help with the lung cancer but increases the likelihood for oral and throat cancer for those who are predisposed to cancer. My dentist noticed precancerouse leasions after less than a year on the dip.I am just trying to get to the nic free stage as fast as I can went from 24 mg in June to 6 mg now.
