As the choices in tanks and RDA's grow, so do the parts that make up those choices.
I think the first thing new vapers experience is most of the measurements are metric.

A metric ruler or even better, a caliper seems to be a must for O-ring and screw replacement.
Being able to read the inside, outside and depth of your devices helps in matching up parts.

There are digital, dial and even manual ones on the market and I have seen them listed from 3.00 USD

up to 20.00 for usable ones. ( My dial caliper is over 15 years old and still performs great; it's been in many tool
boxes on the job )

Most of us are not planning to compete with NASA, just want to know is that O-ring 18x16x1?;

is the depth of the top cap 2mm or 3?

For me, the caliper is right behind a good digital multimeter for Vape progression.

I agree. I have been a bearing salesman for years and a good cheap set of digital calipers are indispensable. I have 4 sets of the $20 dollar ones and they are great. I am now in the gasket business too and everything is in fractions, so I bought a simple pair of small sliding calipers that have a 1/32" graduation and a small tape measure. Most of my gaskets only have to be 1/16" tolerance, so it is pretty easy. I still sell bearings and also have to draw custom parts to be cut on the waterjet, so it pays to keep them both in my car at all times!

This topic remindes me of when I was tig welding the combustion chambers on the f14 and f16 fighter jets back in the 90's during the first gulf war...And I will tell ya what...those were some good days...

Sorry for being so sappy...It was just some of the better days in my life

Understand completely.
Retired USAF in 94, still miss it, still think of it as the best time.

As far as tools to get vaping_jake, that's a very good start.
All my toppers are rebuildable, so I gear things to that end.

Metric allen wrench set
Roll of teflon tape
Large Nail clippers
diagonal cutters
Helping hand magnifying glass
Dremel
Metric drill bits
set of small files
O-ring kit

Yea, it does look like a lot of stuff just to rebuild.
Guess I'm used to clones and just fine tuning atties.
I'm old and half blind so need magnifying glass to see my coils.
Seems like I am always filing or using the Dremel on each new tank I get.
Air hole or juice channel, something always needs a little help.
Have a RTA with hex screws and the Russian's air adjustment.

The teflon tape is great for those times an O-ring gets cut,
you can roll it up and add some width till you fine a replacement.

Also used on threads.
