iheartvape Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 So I decided I wanted to build a unregulated box mod today. I will admit... Next time I will put more thought into it and also buy a battery cradle. Trying to fashion a way to get contacts points to stay in place with no real support was a epic failure... Lol. I got it together and working, but I'm not impressed. It looks like poop thanks to my inexperience. I used the 510 top cap from my Cronus clone, a 3amp switch and project box from radio shack, and battery contact points from an old ohm meter that I seriously rigged into place... The positive contact plate is in a cap from a dripper from a bottle of ejuice that I slip the battery into so it maintains contact... This thing has more glue in it then plastic I think... Lol Raptor Vaper and mkauthen 2
iheartvape Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 It was super fun! Kept me busy for about 4 hours.... mkauthen and Mtdobies 2
iheartvape Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 I definitely need to practice my soldering skills though... lol mkauthen and Bebop 2
iheartvape Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 I had to stop using my box mod.. The negative battery contact gets way to hot and was melting the glue I had in there. So I shelved it till I can get a battery cradle to replace it with.
Raptor Vaper Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Very cool build! I would like more information on building one. I could easily source some beautiful wood and I have the tools to cut, sand and gloss it. I'm also really good with wiring but not familiar with build box mods..
mcquinn Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 (edited) Used to be very popular but seems to have fallen from grace. I still build old school box mods with the AA battery boxes and other parts from Madvapes . I noticed they took all the useful tutorials off their site and no longer make the predrilled kits. I guess the economy is doing better than the news makes it sound cause people be spendin some coin on some fancy devices these days. There used to be someone on the forum who made some very nice wooden boxmods. I am sure the photos and posts are still out there somewhere. Edited July 24, 2014 by mcquinn
iheartvape Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Yeah I remember just a year ago it was self made boxes galore, seems to have died off now that there is so many cheap clones readily available. I enjoyed building my own and plan to build more.
Proetus Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Look for some keystone 1042 or 1048 battery sleds. Single and dual, respectively.
trickydick666 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 You just made my night thank you, I've been wanting to build a box mod for a while especially after I converted my VTR into a unregulated after it shorted out a few weeks ago..I have one of the smaller project boxes and was thinking bout giving it a try. Any advice?
trickydick666 Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Made mine last night, used a small project box I had bought last summer, the 510 from a dead ohm checker, 3amp switch I had laying around, and a c battery holder that I cut to fit
Valhoon Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 =I I may just have to make a trip to radio-shack =I. Nice work though! trickydick666 1
trickydick666 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 It's worth it and doesn't cost much I'm itching to make a better one just gotta find another ego/510 or 510
jasonculp Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I have been really thinking about this myself. I really would love to build a wood/brass dual 18650 fully mechanical box. I have it built in my head, but that isn't getting anything done!
Valhoon Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 You know..... we're not saving much money by not smoking analogs with buying all these doo-dads. But we are living healthier....so that's a plus right?
trickydick666 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 You know..... we're not saving much money by not smoking analogs with buying all these doo-dads. But we are living healthier....so that's a plus right?in the long run you do depending on how many things ya buy lol
Valhoon Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Fair enough lol. I spent probably 300ish trying to find something I like and am comfortable with. I have the Fury-S mech and the Eleaf Lemo RTS (Kayfun clone). I'm probably gonna pick up a Fogger V4 and a RDS. Maybe a Mephesto or something.
trickydick666 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 The fogger v4 is good I have one and rda wise it all depends on personal taste lol, but yeah I agree trying to find what you like/works can be costly I've spent more than I will admit to the gf lol but have sold or pif'd a lot of stuff too. Regardless I've still spent less than I would on analogs..$15-20 a week versus $14+ a day
Valhoon Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 People see me vape and ask me what should they get and I don't wanna tell them that something is better than something else. Because that's just my opinion of a given product. What works for me, someone else might hate and what someone else might hate works for me. As long as you're using safe batteries and have an understanding of what you're doing. Just experiment and see what you like. Though for some of us finding that is a bit expensive and even when we find something that we like we just keep buying =I But your box mod has me wanting to build one. I wonder if 2 18650s would be a good idea in one box mod =I Hmmm trickydick666 1
trickydick666 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Yeah the duel 18650 unregulated box mods are MOSFET mods haven't found a ton about em on here but there's a group on FB dedicated to making them and other box mods
trickydick666 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Keystone 1048 battery tray is part of what ya need/want for dual 18650's mine just arrived yesterday Valhoon 1
Valhoon Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Thank you very much! Sorry if I hijacked your thread lol. I'm fairly new to this but it's gotten me to stop smoking and it's turned into a fun hobby for me. So I try to talk about it as much as possible lol
