Kanger Coil QC - Wrong Ohms

Recommended Posts

One of my KPT2's needed a coil change this morning, so, I just cracked open a five-pack box of Kanger BCC coils in 1.5 Ohm... and as usual, I check the resistance with my coil-meter before installing to ensure it is a "good" coil... Ummm... wait... the box says 1.5 Ohm... [checks the coil stamp again]... Yep, coil stamped 1.5 Ohm... Okay... check another coil... then another.... then another...

WOW! Not ONE of these coils is reading 1.5 Ohm, or even within +/- 0.2...

Maybe my meter is fubar? Nope, my trusty FLUKE meter shows the same readings....

The closest was 1.8 (actually two of them), one was 1.9, one was 2.0, and the first one out of the package was 2.2 Ohms!

And, YES, all of them are stamped 1.5...

I know it's normal to have factory coils be off by a bit, but.... The last box of 1.5's I opened to replace the factory 2.2's in my newly acquired tanks were all ranging from 1.4 to 1.7... which in my book is close enough.... but to find a 2.2 labeled as 1.5 is a bit shocking... or is it? :D

BTW, I opened another box of 1.5's and the first coil out of the box was ... 1.5 Ohm....YAY, they got one right!

I'll still use the other, higher-resistance ones with tanks I'll use only with my MVP, because I use static-Wattage-settings on my MVP, so the coil's resistance is moot for performance of the coil... but the higher resistance coils DO run-down the battery faster. For my EVODs and KPT2's that I use with my non-VV eGo batteries, I try to only use 1.5-1.8 Ohm coils, so the Wattage is in my preferred sweet-spot for 3.7V.... thus another reason I check my coils out of the package....

Yeah, the quality control is...non-existent. I've found all kinds of variance in my stock coils, too. Good thing I only use variable voltage or APVs, otherwise I'd always be checking coils all over the place. One 1.8 ohm coil measured at 1.4 ohms while another 2.2 ohms. *rolls eyes*
