Happy Vapor Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 For all you guys and gals wondering. Yes the nautilus and the kayfun lite + both can fit on the vtr with minor modifications.
Happy Vapor Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 I cut and sanded the upper ring. Mtdobies 1

Happy Vapor Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 I nicked the bottom ring with my grinder but other than that I'm happy with it. I'm about to the point where the looks of things don't worry me anymore I want performance.

When drilling extra holes or just enlarging the existing in my rdas, theres scratch marks from where the bit "walked" away from the intended area I wanted to drill. Lol
Happy Vapor Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 I do that a lot. Gives it a custom look. I scratched my kayfun all to he'll so I took some sand paper to it. Now it has a brushed finish look
Aquatroy Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Maybe a little more than a minor modification, be careful your don't rip out those 510s seen it too many times....l, Joshuab3687 1
Earthling789 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 First off... Kudos for ingenuity and perseverance... Now, when you said "grinder", it made me start thinking... You only have to expand the diameter by a millimeter or so, right? How about using a brake-cylinder hone? Granted, it would be a slower method of removing that much material, but it would obtain perfect symmetry when enlarging the ring. Pop a course-hone on your drill or drill-press, use a little cutting-lube or light-oil, and let the drill do the work.... switch to a fine-hone or buffing wheel and put a shine back to the ring when you've reached the proper diameter.... Two or three spinning hones, evenly cutting under spring-pressure, at the same time... would sure make the job easy and you wouldn't have to worry about symmetry, cutting too deep/uneven, or scratches if your grinder slips... Just a thought for anyone else wanting to expand the ring for a Nautilus (or larger tank)....

Joshuab3687 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I call it, "function over form". Lol All I do is drive a truck all day. No one's gonna see my hack job drilling. And if if someone does and ribs me about it, I'll just blow a fat raincloud at em! Lol

Happy Vapor Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 And you have to remove the whole upper ring. I know you couldn't fit the nautilus on there just opening the diameter up a little. Due to the small ring above the air control. Joshuab3687 1
Joshuab3687 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 And thats (^^) what makes Happy, well...happy! Lmao Happy Vapor 1
Happy Vapor Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 They don't call me quick and easy for nothing.... oh wait.

VIAWOL Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 My VTR made it a whole day before I cut the ring off. I like it much more now that we are divorced.
