Bearded Ninja Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Howdy all, so, I've tried to quit smoking a few times in the past. Once with chantix (mood changes), the other with a combo of the chantix and blu ecigs (lame not the same as a smoke). Anyway, just ordered a smokenmist ego c blister pack seen here http://www.smokenmist.com/product/smokenmist-ego-c-twist-1100mah-blister-pack/ with 3 different 10ml bottles of juice. I think this is something I could really get into. Anyway, after extensive research, it appears the atomizer that comes with the kit will only last from 2-3 weeks. I guess my main question would be, should I go ahead and purchase a different tank? Ive never dealt with anything like this before however I generally pick things up fairly quickly. I've considered getting one where i can just replace the coils in (not sure of terminology exactly). Though I'm not sure what would be a decent one to go for. To be honest, I've been rolling my smokes for the past few years at about $25 a month this seems far more expensive to nurture. With that being said, cost will be playing a fairly large factor into this (at least until I can convince the wife I'll be sticking with it). Thanks for all the help in advance, and also sorry for the wall of text (I'm on my phone).
Earthling789 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Hi, and WELCOME! First off... your choice of starter kit is pretty good... variable voltage (vv) eGo C twist are good batteries, and the ability to vary voltage will help you out in achieving a better vapor and flavor. The tanks there are Ce4's, which are a basic, disposable tank. They are good for a couple weeks, up to a month or so if they are not abused or chain-vaped, lol They'll be good enough to get you started. Just be aware not to vape any heavy-citrus or cinnamon flavors in them, as those tend to crack the plastic tanks... and don't over-tighten the tips after refilling... they will strip-out. As for bottom-coil tanks... I really like the Kanger ProTank 2 Mini... about the same diameter as your eGo-battery, and they perform well. The Ce4's have a replaceable coil sister, the Ce5, if you like that style. Some of the other options out there are MT3, EVOD, EVOD2, EVOD2 Glass, ProTank 2 Mini, ProTank 3 Mini... and those are just the Kanger line of 1.6ml (small) tanks. Innokin makes the iClear 16 line of tanks (about 3 or 4 different styles), Davide, and I'm sure I'm missing several more in that form-factor. There is also the option of larger tanks in the 2.0-2.5ml sizes which have adapters (beauty rings) to allow them to work with eGo threading, if your battery does not accept the 510 threads. So, yes, bottom-line is that there is a LOT of options for you in tanks, both style and brand... Disposables, top-coil replaceable, bottom coil replaceable, and all of these are available in single or dual-coil design... just to further complicate things for you...
Bearded Ninja Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Thanks for the reply. After some research, it looks like I'll be after some bottom coil replaceables. Any recommendations for a cheap yet durable tank? Also forgot to mention, I'd like to stick with single coil for now as NOT to further complicate things...lol.
Tam Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 My personal preference is the Anyvape Davide or the Davide mini but they changed how they made them so I'd go with a Kanger Pro Tank 2 or a Pro Tank 2 mini. Those take single coils and perform very well. The tanks are made of glass so you'll want to be careful not to break it, but with glass tanks you never need to worry about what kinds of juice you're using. Some juices high in citrus, cinnamon and/or menthol can crack plastic tanks. With the KPT2 or the mini version I'd go with my personal favorite, the 1.8 ohm coil.
Earthling789 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 My personal preference for single-coil is the ProTank 2 mini. It is a Pyrex tank and all stainless steel design... a real nice tank... If you're not worried about using plastic, the EVOD tanks are very nice too... and both of those use the same single-coil replacements. The EVOD2, EVOD2 Glass, and ProTank 3 Mini are all dual-coil designs... but they are all the same size as their single-coil sisters. I think you'll like the PT2 mini, but you'll have to decide which coil works best for you... some prefer 1.8, some (like me) prefer 2.0, and you can even go up to 2.2 or 2.4 ohm in singles.
Bearded Ninja Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Thanks again for the replies. It looks like the ProTank 2 mini is exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I pretty much have to prove to the wife for a few weeks that this is something I'm sticking with to buy some better gear. I've also already planned to buy my own kanthal and silica to recoil the wicks. This method seems extremely cheap and easy to do for long term use. A few last questions, about how long will the battery I bought last? Also, is it recommend that I buy two or three tanks to start along with a pack of replacement heads? How long do those usually last?
Tam Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 If you're going to be rebuilding your own coils, the very first thing you need to buy before you buy the kanthal and wick, is an ohm meter if you don't already have one. The ohm meters dedicated specifically to check coils is much easier to use and you don't need as many hands to hold everything like you would with a traditional ohm meter. Then, there's the kanthal, some organic untreated cotton (or whatever you want to use as wicking material), a Butane torch, extra Butane, needle nose pliers, tweezers, and if your eyes are like mine, you may need to invest in a self lighted magnifier that attaches to a table top so you can see what you're doing. Rebuilding coils may see extremely cheap but there are the start up costs and you also need to know what you're doing. At $2 a pre-made stock coil that is plug and play, it's cheaper and easier to just buy extra coils while you're learning all the other things about vaping. Just my opinion.
Earthling789 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Battery life will depend on how much you use it, and on what Voltage level, lol... But, I can get a full day, sometimes nearly two, out of my 1100mAh batteries, and at least a full day out of my smaller 950mAh batteries. I would recommend at least a couple of tanks, or at least one for each flavor you like, so you won't have to be cleaning tanks to prevent cross-flavor issues (some flavors just don't mix well, lol). A pack or two of atomizer heads (coils) is a good thing to have handy... some last for weeks, some only for days... it's not an exact science, but you should be able to average 2-3 weeks on a coil before failure... at least that is what I get from them, although I've got a dual-coil still going strong after 4 weeks (but I expect it to go any day now). Thickness of your juice (vg content) will affect how long they last too... thicker juices gum-up coils faster, obviously. And, if you plan to learn to build your own coils, you'll want to have a good supply of the atomizer heads to DO the rebuilding with... so go ahead and use the factory-coils for a while, and save the dead ones for rebuilding later. I personally plan to start building a few after summer... I should have at least 18-20 spent heads in a box by then (and room in my office to set up a winding-station)!
Bearded Ninja Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Just a quick update. My starter kit came in this morning and I'm happy to say I haven't craved a smoke since. The flavor I chose to vape first was cinna bun (pretty good). One small gripe about my kit though is that the mouth piece easily slides out of the tank making it nearly impossible to keep it in my pocket without juice leaking. If I was to get a protank 2 mini will that eliminate that issue? Thanks in advance again.

grailhunter78 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Hey quick question. I just got an evod 2 glass and I heard that you can use the older single coils in it. Is this true not sure the dual coil offers that much of an advantage and if I can will just use single coils.

I much prefer the single coil over the double coils. They do everything I need them to do and use less liquid in the process.

Bearded Ninja Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 So I figured out that im an idiot and the drip tip does have threads to screw in. This makes it MUCH easier to get around until my PT mini 2's get here (hopefully soon). Thanks again for all the advice guys. I'm pretty stoked already that I haven't smoked either which is surprising considering how much I did smoke. I have a half of a pack in front of me I haven't even touched. Good times...... Tam 1
