VTR - VW my arse!

Recommended Posts

First off, let me state that I love my VTR. It's my go-to machine and I'll probably add another to my collection soon.

That being said, these things are marketed as being able to adjust voltage automatically to generate the desired output wattage... I'm not seeing it. After a few weeks, I can tell when I pop a new battery in this thing. It hits MUCH harder with a fresh charge. Also, over the past few days I've noticed this thing hitting unexpectedly harder. As I check my coil resistance I can see that it's dropping. I normally keep it set at around 14/15 watts, but I'm having to back it down a little as my coil resistance drops. I can only assume it's going to die soon.

Maybe there's a problem with my VTR. I don't know... but I'm just saying, this thing doesn't hold a constant output.

What atty/tank are you using at 15 watts? And coil resistance??

I'm using the iClear 30S that came with it, which had the 2.1 ohm coil in it from the factory. I noticed it his 2.0 earlier this week. It just knocked the crap out of my throat so I checked it and now its at 1.8.

I've got a box of 2.1s already to replace it, so I'm kind of just waiting on it to pop.

I use 2.5ohmcoils and never go higher than 9.

Well, my understand of VW machines was that they were supposed to detect coil resistance, and adjust the voltage to produce the desired output wattage... so in theory, you should get the same hit/taste regardless of your coil resistance.

In most apv's a fresh batt will give a lil higher performance. Even regulated ones sometimes. At 15 watts (the max) it's alot for std pre-made coils to handle very much I think. It's a lil like takeing a stock escort and holding the pedal down trying to beat a mustang gt.... All you do is beat up on your escort. lol Might be best if you can decide what you want more from the vtr than it can give, and then look for an apv that can provide it. Even if it means a mech mod. Are you sure your running on watts?

I think so. The instructions say set one or the other, but not both. If I scroll through to the watts and set it where I want it, that's all there is to it... right?

To an extent yes, but at the max output it's a crap shoot..... What is it that you're missing that you feel you need to use 15watts. Sometimes it's technique that can make a big difference on satisfaction. Slow draw, mouth to lung draw etc....

I take a few puffs to full my mouth, and then a long "drag" into the lungs to top it off. The VTR running at about 14 watts vapes about the same as my 1300mah spinners set around 4.5 volts with a 2.8ohm coil.

I'd have to do the math for a more accurate comparison, which frankly, I don't feel like doing on this Fursday afternoon. Have a good Easter! I'll check back later.

I run 6w-9w on my VTR with 2ohm coils in my Aerotanks.

Over 9w it's way too warm and eats juice like I have a hole in my tank.

The VTR does suffer from poor resistance readings which can make it inconsistant a lot by giving way to much voltage when it always reads the resistance too high.

It also suffers from poor battery regulation as a fresh cell hits much harder the more charged it is and lacks a good hit at 3.7v.

I may be wrong, but what batteries are you using? If they can't supply the mod with high enough amps the output will be low no matter how high you set it.
