Patricia Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I saw this crazy article on MSN and thought I would pass it on for you all to see. I don't believe a word of it.http://healthyliving.msn.com/health-wellness/rising-e-cigarette-use-tied-to-more-smoking-in-teens-1
mcquinn Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Made me want to do the hard stuff. not! Haters gonna hate. Some people just can't stand to see someone else happy. We have addressed all the objections to smoking with vaping and they still are not happy. They can step off as far as I am concerned. Edited March 7, 2014 by mcquinn Scuba-Matt 1
BigClouds1021 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 That is such a load of s**t. Dumb people saying dumb things. It unavoidable in this day and age I guess.
bcartervol98 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 At the risk of being in violation of the sites T&C they also say marijuana is a gateway drug when I know many many people that are in their 40s and 50s that have used cannabis since their teenage years and never touched anything else. Nothing can make someone do something else except free will. That's it, and any attempt to claim otherwise is just sheer ignorance. joejoevapekins, mkauthen and Cyan 3
travis98310 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I saw this crazy article on MSN and thought I would pass it on for you all to see. I don't believe a word of it.http://healthyliving.msn.com/health-wellness/rising-e-cigarette-use-tied-to-more-smoking-in-teens-1 Maybe the writer of this article is an anti e-cigarette. As far as I know, e-cigarette doesn't have tobacco in it. And the teens, who are not afraid to do whatever they like, have their freedom to do what they want to do. It's not as if they harm other people.
Crazyavonlady Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Teens, in my opinion, are more likely to grab a pack of cigarettes than an e-cig. They don't think about LONG TERM cost, just the RIGHT NOW cost. Period. When I was a teen, a $5-$7 pack of ciggs (sometimes cheaper with the cheaper brands) would totally override the $30 setup for an ecig. Even the ones you can buy in the gas statins, in my experience, are slightly more expensive than a pack of cigarettes. Teens need their money for other stuff, like shopping at the mall or buying stuff for their cars (or nowadays, diapers for their kids--I was a teen mom and I would buy diapers first and then cigarettes. Didn't have the extra cash to buy an ecig setup back then!) Mtdobies 1
sherylanne Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 This is just down right idiotically stupid and should make no sense to the average person. Why would a teenager switch from vaping a Strawberry Shortcake, Bavarian Cream, Cinnamon Danish, (you name the flavor) e-cig to smoking a nasty tobacco, poison filled, stinky, cough your head off cigarette? Oh yeah, that's what I would do if I were just starting out...... Makes absolutely no sense. joejoevapekins 1
Scuba-Matt Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I just can't help but feel that big tobacco and governments are behind all the bad publicity that ecig are getting. Neither wants to lose the revenue that the tobacco products give them. MSmom601 and mkauthen 2
Cyan Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I stared vaping in highschool to stop smoking regular cigs but it was on and off. I didn't start regular cigs because I vaped, I did it because I was pressured my a friend of mine. I feel like these people don't understand that if kids want to try something they'll try it... smoking a e-cig isn't going to make someone try a regular cig. If the kid is willing to try a e-cig he/she's going to be willing to try a regular cig. That's just my opinion tho! :p
rkottwitz Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 News reporters have no understanding that correlation does not necessary mean causation. My guess is that they were smoking tobacco first and then switched to ecigs.
charliestheman Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 I started smoking because I got locked up. The two are associated so we should definitely get rid of the criminal justice system, discipline, strict parents and any form of government or authority. Nobody would smoke because obviously, they're related lol. I'm totally kidding, I believe 100% in strict parenting
LOSTSOUL VAPORZ Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 That's funny! I started smoking cigs to try & cover up the smell of weed when I was a kid so maybe kids are trying to cover up the smell of vape with cigs too??????
GnarlyBooger Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Will kids smoke. Yes. Will kids vape. Yes. No matter what it is invetiable. I hate that people saying fruity flavors target teens. I love the sweet fruity stuff and I am 30 ... and it should be my right to be able to vape. I have 4 kids. If I found out they were smoking I would be upset. If I found out they were vaping ... meh. bobsyeruncle Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Are e-cigarettes a gateway drug? This survey says no:Analyzing a 2012 survey of 26,500 consumers across 27 European countries, Constantine Vardavas and his colleagues at the Harvard School of Public Health found the highest concentrations of vapers came from younger consumers who are heavy smokers but interested in quitting. Although e-cigarette use was highest in smokers between the ages of 15 and 24, the evidence suggested electronic cigarettes are not enticing non-smokers, young or old: of those surveyed, 20% of current smokers had tried an e-cigarette at least once, while just 4% of ex-smokers and 1.1% on non-smokers had ever sampled the segment.http://www.cspnet.com/category-news/tobacco/articles/study-suggests-electronic-cigarettes-are-not-gateway
charliestheman Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 The 14 year old did mention smoke tricks on vine, so I loaded up the biggest throat hit I've found, a big ole hot burning throat hit with 24 mg juice and said "here, but don't stop till the tanks gone." She was scared, didn't want none of the 91 son! I was hoping she would turn green and barf like in the Nick @ Nite reruns back before they went to all this "in color" crap they're playing now. When she burps I do random sniff tests to make sure it doesn't smell like watermelon just in case.

Cigarettes are still glamorized and seen as a 'rebel' habit by the media. Lets face it, how many of us started smoking becasue it looked cool and it was the cool thing to do. I have found recently through friends younger siblings in first year university and college (and even some high schoolers) e-cigs are more popular than analogs basically because e-cigarettes look fun and taste delicious. A couple 19 year olds I know vape the nicotine-free flavors as there is zero need to ingest that chemical for them. Plus, It has the look of thick smoke but zero throat irritation and tastes like candy. I would compare e-cigettes to i-phones if your a young adult. You don't want it to replace a bad habit, but you want it because its like a toy.
VapeHappy Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 MSN is the absolute King Du Jour of yellow journalism. Or is it CNN? :?) There are more fair and balanced news networks out there. R
Tweak Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) between 2011 and 2012 the amount of kids using ecigs has increased? you dont say? $10 says the amount of all humans using ecigs during that time period has increased by the same factor. that's like saying "from 2000-2010 the amount of adults using the internet has increased." or "the amount of people driving 2013 carollas significantly increased in 2013." I am all for the 1st amendment, but someone has to hold these people accountable! just look at their sources, doctors from nicotine research centers, etc. these people did not lie, the writer just picked and chose the information that they needed to further their personal agenda. jeanrose770 Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Oh puh-lease. Thats d**n right Haters gunna hate. Anyway they can try to make the electronic cigarette look bad.... They don't have much in the comparison to analogs so they have to resort to ridiculous articles such as this one!
