Your friend's device may have been variable voltage with voltage cranked up. That will make for a hot vape.

Also top coil tanks and clearos will make for a hotter vape. Using Mini Davides and Kanger Pro Tanks, that are bottom coil, the heat is hardly noticeable to me.

that's interesting. I don't think I've ever experienced a hot vape. Even on a top coil unit with my tongue right next to the tip I barely detect any warmth, lol.
