KDdid Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hello all, Ever since these types of cigarettes came out I've been curious. I'm not a smoker, but like the look of holding a cigarette and would like to simulate smoking it. I was a very light smoker a long time ago, when I worked at a stressful job. I also smoked because back then everyone was doing it, but it never became a habit. Now, I would like to take this type of cigarette along with me, when I go to the casinos in Nevada, to relieve some of the tension that comes with playing, but I heard that these types of cigarettes have nicotine in them? Are there any these cigarettes that just have plain vapor? Also, I just finished reading on the internet that the e-cigarettes can dispel chemicals into the body that can be just as harmful as real cigarettes? I wouldn't want that or nicotine in my system. I'd appreciate any feedback that anyone here could give me. Thank you for any insight. -Kd
bcartervol98 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 You can get 0% nic liquid to go in whatever appliance you choose, but a piece of advice. If you do not have a nicotine addiction don't start one.
KDdid Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 You can get 0% nic liquid to go in whatever appliance you choose, but a piece of advice. If you do not have a nicotine addiction don't start one. Like I said on my original post, "I wouldn't want that or nicotine in my system." That's why I posed the question. And if it's 0% nic, how can that start a nicotine addiction? That doesn't make any sense. But thanx for your response, anyway.
Aquatroy Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Not sure how vaping zero nic would help wih stress from playing cards. Might be better off sucking on a butterscotch candie. Vaping is a great tool to get off regular cigarettes, but you won't find any of us wanting to encourage a non smoker. As far as crap in the juice, as long as you buy from a reputable vendor from the USA, youll be fine. Don't buy any China juices.

I guess I am coming from the point of a 27 year smoker that finally gave up cigarettes by vaping, but with that said I would give anything to have not started doing either. My point is what do you expect to get out of it without the nicotine? The very act of vaping is not going to relax you or anything, all it is going to do is let you put flavored steam into your mouth. I just dont get it is all. The ingredients in e-liquid are propylene glycol, found in most make up, toothpaste, deodorant, and other items we use daily. Secondly is vegetable glycerin that is in icings, sweetened products like gummy bears, gum, candy, and others. Both are approved as food additives by the FDA. Other than that there are only flavorings and nicotine if you order it that way. My cardiologist lets me vape in his office and let me also vape in ICU when I was in the hospital having tests done. Since switching to vaping and dropping cigarettes I no longer have to take blood pressure medicine, anxiety medicine, or sinus medicine that I had to take daily while I smoked. Don't buy into the hype that it is bad for you. If you want to vape, then vape, but without nicotine I guess I just don't see the point. Sorry if my response came off as snarky. spydre 1

KDdid Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 My point is what do you expect to get out of it without the nicotine? Ok, perhaps I expressed myself incorrectly by saying, "To relieve some of the stress of gambling or playing." I really don't care if the e-cigarette relaxes me or not. Beside the fact that I've heard that sticking something in your mouth, like a cigarette, pencil, sucker (Tootsie Roll) comforts and pacifies the brain. There is a certain look of sophistication about smoking too. That's why I was wanting to know if the e-cigs come w/o out nicotine. How can I make sure if that I buy reputable e-cigs? Thanx for your response.

bcartervol98 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Not sure what you play but I have played a bunch of WSOP Circuit events and used to make good money playing poker online before the DOJ started freezing assets of the biggest sites. I am one of those "live poker is boring" online players that got used to playing 8-12 tables and seeing hundreds of hands an hour. I still play cash whenever near a casino but I am a tournament player mainly. Just sharing. I would think a 0nic vape could be relaxing at the table. I usually relied on music and Xanax to get me through the terrible dealers at circuit events, the time between hands, and until break when I would smoke. I haven't played since starting vaping. Are poker rooms generally vape friendly?
Aquatroy Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 There is a certain look of sophistication about smoking too.Thanx for your response. I would be freakin surprised if anyone on this forum really would agree with that statement .... Your in Cali...Nuff said...

Are poker rooms generally vape friendly? Brian, the unstated "benefit" of xanax, if you aren't having an anxiety attack like I used them for, they relax your facial features enough that if your tell is like a muscle tic in your face, or a certain facial expression, it may hide that tell. People tend to use Xanax to beat interviewers that are like for "lie tells" in the face for the same reason - facial muscles react involuntarily when we lie. As for me, I can't lie worth squat to certain people. I stutter, or stumble over my words....never had much cause to lie to my parents, but I was able to pull that off okay. Can lie to my kids. Can't lie to my hubby - and at one point in time, when I handled money sooo badly, I did lie about what was paid and what wasn't frequently, and for some reason he overlooked it, sweet man. I would be freakin surprised if anyone on this forum really would agree with that statement .... Your in Cali...Nuff said... Right. Cigarettes haven't "looked sophisticated", since about the '80's, I think, so successful has been the marketing against them. Come to think of it, even the latest Bond movies I can remember showing a "Bond girl" smoking were either late '80's, early '90's. That is, if your casinos still allow you to smoke inside. In my state, Illinois, you can't smoke inside the casinos. Not sure about Missouri, right across the river from me, which most of the bans on smoking are by local ordinance and not the state - but I know they have loopholes for bars, and probably casinos, as well.
KDdid Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 Are poker rooms generally vape friendly? Don't know if the question was being posed to me or not, but in case it was....I really don't know. The casinos we go to have none smoking sections, so I don't know if the e-cigs would be allowed in that section or not. I'd have to ask.

At least around here, e-cigs, even if they look like real thing, since they aren't actual tobacco, burning 4000 chemicals and carcinogens with second hand smoke, most places are fine with it, as long as you ask first. All bars here are good with it at least.
bcartervol98 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Well poker room rules are different than casino rules. I have played series in over a dozen casinos and none allowed smoking in their poker rooms. I was curious about vaping. I have often said I don't gamble, I play poker!

Frankly , smoking is a low class habit anymore ,yeah in the roaring 20's it may have looked sophisticated .But as time went on and we learned of all the dangers associated with smoking it is just plain dumb .most of us started smoking as dumb kids who either didnt know any better or thought we were invincible .ItS a fact -smokers are second class citizens in this decade most of us are or were desperate to quit. Were traveling unchartered waters here yes they(e cigs) are deemed safe .....for now . but then so were cigarettes at first .The only reason smokers are perceived as being relaxed by smoking is that there is a chemical addiction going on there , withdraws make you for lack of a better term " crave " a cigarette , the relaxation comes in when we feed that need . Someone who doesnt have that addiction is going to get absolutely nothing like that .what happens if there is something to them(e cigs ) that turns out *almost * as bad as the effects of smoking ? what then ? for me it cant be worse then arsenic that was in the cigarettes I smoked so Im ok with that . But what about you ? youre not smoking ? do you want to take a risk like that for fun? I wouldnt . ----' no one wants to see people wind up in the shape some of us if not all of us are in , with damage to our bodies. we would give anything not to have to deal with .the body was never meant to inhale these things its better than "smoke" but its worse than "nothing " . just my opinion. spydre 1

Yeah. In school, we were always told they were stimulants - I even saw a documentary somewhere, long time ago, that showed that someone performed WORSE on fine motor skills after smoking a cigarette. Then SOMEONE started telling me it was depressant because it relaxes you. So I started reading up again recently. In fact, what smokers feel as "relaxing" when they light up, is their withdrawal sensations being appeased. The relaxation goes away as soon as you put the cigarette out, or rather, exhale. Cigarette goes out, our body starts the craving cycle all over again. I find it telling that the current head of Phillip Morris never smoked, but thinks it should be easy for smokers to quit if they want to.

What risk? T'was just a question about e-cigs and I haven't even tried the darn things....don't know that I will and thank god that I don't have that nasty habit! Like the title of the thread was, "Just Curious is all." Thanx for your opinion n-ways. Look, so far, the FDA did a study about 5 years ago, on ONE brand of the e-cigarettes coming in from China - they only tested the cartridge, I would imagine they swabbed the cartridge, and found some not so great things. They didn't test the juice, just the cartridge. The latest study has shown that the VAPOR itself is safe enough - for now. I don't know if they tested the vapor off different juices, different manufacturer's juices, whatever. It's entirely possible that the cartridge e-cigs, like Blue and this other Chinese brand, may still have some traces of these chemicals on the inside of the cartridges (and I think you are talking about using a cigarette look alike, not a vaporizer that doesn't look like a cigarette, right?), we just don't know. As far as I know, no one has studied the cartridges since the FDA did that sample with the one shipment from China in 2008. The fact of the matter is, for smokers, this is HARM REDUCTION. I wouldn't advise picking up on vaping if you've never smoked before. There is just still plenty we don't know. That's why states are finally making the move to make it illegal for those under 18 to buy it, although most shop owners don't allow anyone under 18 into the shops anyway, much less sell to them, even if there isn't a law in place, and vaping websites, most of them, ask you to confirm that you are over legal smoking age before you enter into the full site. No biggie though, forum discussions are not for everyone. One has to have an open mind and be ready for differing opinions to get much out of it. Not sensing a lot of that here. spydre 1
