blucavvy Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 I'm talking no electric, no water hook ups. Ever seen the movie "into the wild"? That's what i'm talking about. Anyone ever do anything like that? I'm really wanting to do something like that. Uma 1
Tam Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Never saw "Into the Wild" but yes, I've done camping like that. Roughing it big time. If you have electricity, it's not really camping. A big maybe on a faucet on a pipe sticking out of the ground that's in the middle of nowhere and you have to hike some to get to it. Prefer to camp near a good sized river. No pads under your sleeping bag, just a tent and rocks for pillows. Aluminum foil and a very sharp knife (I prefer it to be razor sharp) are your best friends. These days my idea of roughing it is a Marriott with slow wi-fi, though.
Aquatroy Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Back in the day. Multi-day backpacking trips, all in the western US. Star filled nights near a hot spring. But my old bones won't take it anymore, and the knees are shot, awaiting replacements ... Love2VapeDaily 1
irwink Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 What you refer to as "hardcore camping" I have always just called camping. Add all the modern conveniences and you're no longer camping, just staying in a diy cheap motel. Tam 1
bcartervol98 Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 We used to camp in the backcountry of the Smoky Mountains before we got into boating but now we hardly ever go. It's like camping in the cove but its hardly roughing it.

Yep but can be fun, the only way I could get the wife camping was to buy a tent that fit in the bed of my truck,so she was off the ground! We have traveled all over exploring hot springs both wild and captive (commercial) Once we spent ten days in the middle of nowhere Nevada, in November, near a hot spring well, that flowed into large metal tubs, and several other springs nearby....,very little electric, batteries and solar, only saw wild burros and pigs for a week, but still just car camping some would say. irwink Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 My ex-wife said the closest she'd ever get to camping was a Holiday Inn without a swimming pool. Uma and Love2VapeDaily 2
Uma Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) haha, I live off grid... a few years were very much how you describe. BUT, I cheated, by using an inverter hooked up to a car battery, to charge my eGo's and cell phone. We now live in luxury with solar panels, batteries, and an outdoor shower. Oh! And finally a fridge!!! It's a tiny little Black and Decker, but it plugs in and makes ice and keeps the mayo cold. There are a lot of helpful sites for people like you and me. Here's a few: Knowledge Weighs Nothing Off Grid Survival The show DoomsDay Preppers on National Geographic has lots of interesting tips... and characters lol... Their website also has tips, like how to purify your water, make a stick/branch shelter, etc. Youtube is chalk full of Preppers and Survivalists tips too. (I could live at youtube) There are lots of places, and forums, on Survivalists and Preppers that will help you lots. Have fun! (and never leave home without a box of tampons, steel wool, and a 9volt battery). PS. This site has a list of helpful sites: Edited August 14, 2013 by Uma

Lordvapor Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I did when I was younger...slept in the back of my car...or the back of my truck... Now I "rough it" in my motorhome... Now I eat cooked food, take hot showers and watch movies on satellite with a microwaved bag of popcorn....man you talking about roughing it... At least my motorhome is old school Jeffb 1

That stuff can fix anything! even a bitching wife's mouth lol. seriously though my wife always talks about going camping but finding time is the issue, we have the 8 person tent and blow up air mattress with built in battery powered pump. Hellecat Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I camp for a week straight once a year in April. We actually have a hold in the bottom of the pirate ship we build and perform on at the Norman medieval favor. Tricked out just like a real ships hold with 10 hammocks hung inside. All our cooking is done on the fire pit too. Its a blast. Edited August 22, 2013 by Hellecat
Rcam1977 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I have a group of friends that I go camping with, we normally hike a few miles and then bushwhack off trail and find a good spot, no tents, we all use hammocks. So there's obviously no electric access or water hook ups, at best a creek and sometimes there is very little water if any
