Seebs has been a smoker for the past 20 years...

In years past; I always made the obligatory "New Year's resolution" to quit the habit, but you know how those things go.

Until this past December... I don't remember what show it was, or who it was that was asked the question... All I know is it was an interview show on PBS (Did I mention I LOVE Public Television?)... Maybe Charlie Rose, maybe Tavis Smiley... not sure.

The interviewer asked the guest about new years resolutions and the guy answered: NONE!

That got a "What do you mean none?" follow up question.

And the guest went on to say "Resolutions are for people that delude themselves into believing that wishing for something will make it come true"... He then said: "Don't make resolutions; instead, establish goals and objectives... And then work on meeting those on a day by day basis". I liked that and it stuck in my mind for days.

Come Dec 30th... I'm outside my apartment at about 3 AM, smoking my last "cowboy killer" of the night; it's as cold as it will get down here in SoFla (About 55 F) and I'm freezing my butt off (20 years of So Fla living will make your blood thin and you won't tolerate lower temperatures as well as someone from Wisconsin for example)...

That one cigarette was the last one in the pack and I made a conscious decision to not go to the store and pick up a new pack that night. Did the same thing the following day... And just kept on telling myself that I would not go to the store "TODAY". Kind of like the whole "set up a plan and work on it on a day by day thing" the guy being interviewed mentioned. :)

Fast forward to tonight and it's been ten (10) days of free tobacco living for me.

I don't believe in "destiny" stuff, but about two weeks ago; I had my BP checked (139/91)... Not blatantly high, but very close to being "bad".

Again; fast forward until today... I went in a got it checked again. Needless to say I, and the doctor, were pleasantly surprised with the new numbers (128/82)...

Very happy camper here to say the least...

Now for the "not so good" part... The nicotine part is almost a non-issue for me... I rode the "withdrawals" for a week "cold turkey" and got through that on my own, but the "routine" of going outside and "puffing" is something I still miss a lot; not to mention the fact that I've been "replacing" the "smoking" times with candy, chocolate bars, etc.

I had heard about e-Cigs before, but always dismissed them as "gimmicky", but a couple days ago I bumped into an old friend and he had one of them things so I asked him about it and he said they had helped him get off the "cowboy killers" when every other method had failed.

Long story short... I just ordered me a V2 starter pack to see what the fuzz is about and to try and stop my "candy" intake before high BP turns into diabetes. chair.gif

I guess it's all going to go down like all my other hobbies. I start with the "cheap" starter pack and then end up getting into it hard and that's when the "custom" stuff starts getting delivered to my doorstep. It happened to me with computers (Have enough computer parts here to run my own data center if I wanted) and I'm sure it will happen with "Vaping" too. I've already seen a couple of super good looking wood carving "mods" that have me looking at my wallet with bad intentions. :)

So that's it for my introduction...

I'm Seebs and I used to be a smoker!

Welcome Seebs, we will help you with that wallet problem....lol, kidding aside ask and someone more than likely will have an answer for ya

Welcome! This hobby can be as cheap or expensive as you want! You could vape for dollars a week or spend hundreds on each new mod they come out with. And trust me there is no lack of mods being designed on a what seems like daily basis. I think I have settled for some decent albeit cheap devices that work good for me. I'm looking to service my nicotine addition not play with every shiny new toy they dream up. That is just me though. Everyone has their little vaping niche to fall into.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys/girls... :)

All I can say is I haven't even had my 1st drag of an e-Cig and I'm already eyeing some of the more sophisticated setups out there. :hope:

What I'm noticing is that there seem to be a ton of choices out there; so it looks like I'm in for a lot of research/reading. One thing I do know for sure is I like compact/small units over the larger ones.

And now I'm off to looking at more mods.

Welcome to this great activity (hobby, life saver ,etc)

you will save enough money that the drain on your billfold will be offset by the $ you save not buying analogs . I used to smoke 21/2 packs a day that was $100 + a week , that was 3 years ago

Yes there are plenty of different choices out there , but if you kinda work into it slowly you will understand a lot of the differances . The term "mod" is a difficult thing for newbees to get a handle on and nobody agree,s on the definition any way lolmy personal definition , for what its worth, is anything that is not just a "push the button and puff" device. for around 30 bucks you can get a varable voltage twist from joy tech it is not to big if you get the 650mah one and there are many colors available if that is important to you .

cartomizer (atomizer) one of the best IMO out there is the vision rebuildable with a 2.4 coil or the viva nova (also made by vision ) both are good

Now if you want a lil more hi tech the vamoo , or the evic or the lavatube are all good with the evic being pretty hi tech and leading edge

Ok I have ramled on enough wellcome Seebs :sorcerer:

Thanks Bill....

I've been doing a lot of browsing and watching videos on all the different "kits"... The whole "modding" thing to me is a big plus; I'm a very big fan of tinkering with stuff myself (If you were to look at my desk right now you'd find no less than three protoboards, a few arduino boards in varied flavors and enough resistors/wires/jumpers to stock a Radio Shack or two... :) So I'm sure I'll find myself making something of my own for the e-cigs... I just gotta do some research first. :)

As far as what I like... I looked at the Volcano units and though the Lavatube units look sexy as hell; they're just too big for my taste... I think I'm more partial to the "normal" looking units that look/feel like a real cig, but who knows; that may all change in the future... All I know is that I do want to try at least two of the "good" units so I'll be asking for suggestions/recommendations at a later date (gotta get my feet wet with the V2 that just arrived today)... :)

Going by looks only; and in the very little research I've done so far; I'm liking the Inferno and the Joye Tech 510... Very slick and compact. Who knows; I've always been of the mentality that if something is worth doing; it's also worth overdoing... So I'm sure there will be a number of units making it to my house in the coming months... :)

Sorry for the double post, but it seems I can't edit my previous post.

Well... I just took two drags of the V2 and loved it!!!! Almost passed out though; two weeks without nicotine and the cartridges I got were full strength so the "rush" was quite strong.

I gotta say... They have made a believer out of me. It's gonna be lower nicotine for me from now on; and I'll eventually phase it out to the 0% stuff...

I may never put away the puffer, but at least I won't be taking in any more tar and arsenic when I puff.

welcome to vt and congrats on putting down the smokes. i know alot about the 808 mini units like your v2 so if you have any questions don't hesitate to post or pm me.

v2 is a good unit but they are overpriced and there are better deals out there. i don't have a lot of time to make a long post of this as i'm in military training atm but this weekend i'll have more time.

you should like your v2 unit for a good long while before needing to "upgrade" assuming you even need to. which you may not. anyway congrats, good luck and welcome :)

Glad you like it , welcome to the addictive world of vaping.

Oh it's amazing... I'm already thinking about flavors, dripping, etc... Like I said before; if it's worth doing it's worth overdoing. :)

So I just learned something from your post... The V2s are 808s... Did not know that; so thanks for that.

Now; as much as I like this V2... I'm already looking at other units. I'd like to eventually get to the point where I can make my own flavors, drip and all that other good stuff.

Still not sure if getting complete kits would be better than shopping around for individual parts, but that's something I'll figure out as I get deeper into this whole thing. :sorcerer:

walk before you run is all i can say. when you first start there's a plethera of information that kind of drowns newbies. finding your happy medium can be a difficult thing.

so if you want to try something research or post up here and we can steer you in the right direction on whether or not you should buy parts or a kit, and how to drip etc....

LOL... "walk before you run" is what I tell my students when they try to skip over steps in solving equations (math tutor here)... :)

Been doing a lot of reading and browsing these past two days... I think I'm finally getting to the point where I know just enough to get myself in trouble.

As of right now (and this may very well change in the future); I'm quite certain that I am partial to the more compact units. Seen videos on all the "super beastly" units like the Provari, Lavatube, etc and they just seem way too big for my taste. I do understand that the versatility they offer is a big selling point, but I just don't find them very attractive...

The one I'm liking a lot is the eGo-T; going by what I've seen in video reviews it seems to be the perfect compromise between size and "oomph" that I'm looking for at this stage in my vaping life. :) Again; that may all change a couple months from now when I have more experience and my needs evolve. It's just the natural order of things; it happened with me and computer hardware and it will happen with vaping hardware as well.

Welcome to vapor talk. I also quit smoking on December 30, 3 years ago, but I had been vaping a couple of months previous. I didn't want to make it a New Years resolution so I quit a full day before the New Year. I've tried everything in the past to quit and I smoked for 25+ years and if I can do it, anyone can do it so I think you're in good shape. It's a lot easier with the help of this forum.

Check out a video of the bombshell stinger, if that's not a sexy beast I don't know what is! :D
