Vapornoob
I'm a newcomer to mixing, however I've heard of some people starting with 100mg/ml eliquids to make smaller dosed liquids and even doing higher than 100mg/ml and wanted to know what a good site is to start buying supplies from so I can became a mad mixer myself. Based in the US would be appreciated. I read the newcomer guide to DIY but didnt know which site would be best since one said it's in the UK. Also any other tips are helpful! Happy vaping. ancient11
I have settled down to buying most of my diy supplies at http://www.myfreedomsmokes.com. I think you will find everything you need there with the exception of the proper size blunt syringe needles. i prefer 14gauge! You may want to consider getting yourself (http://www.myfreedomsmokes.com/graduated-cylinders-beakers-flasks/graduated-cylinder-glass-50ml/) I find them indispensable for proper mixing. Ordering once a year should be enough – I haven't made an order in six months. I find you get a better tasting smoke just the way you like it and it is dirt cheap. Just follow good common sense practices and you will be just fine. Don't get stupid and start washing your hands in 100 mg nicotine (smile), otherwise you should be just fine. I think you will really enjoy it once you dive in and start mixing.
Vapornoob
Okay I will try that site out and yeah gotta be safe with the nic!
Brian
Not doing much DIY any more, but I use to get nic from myfreedomsmokes.com. I've heard good things about these also: http://www.rtsvapes.com/ http://wizardlabs.us/index.php?route=common/home (RTSVapes is USA made nic) A good place for flavoring (they have a ton): http://www.ecigexpress.com/
Mike
I also use RTS vapes and ecigexpress. I also use Walmart and my local bakery supply store for VG, PG and flavors.
Mike
My tips are not to use too much VG. 10%-25% is what I generally use depending on what I'm making. This makes plenty of vaper and it's better for your attys than using large amounts of VG. Also small batches at first and lots of patients. Flavor % is usually 20% or less and if it is not strong enough at first you can add more later but you might want to wait a day or three to see how it is after it steeps a while. You might not have to add more flavor and if you already did it might be perfumy or too strong after a few days. Remember what you did so when you make something you like you can double or quadruple the recipe.
Vapornoob
Thanks a lot for the tips guys! I will shop at MFS and see how I like it there. I looked around at the site and the prices seem fair and the reviews are reassuring. What other supplies will I need and how much am I looking at to pay for them? Brian
You'll need PG and/or VG (you can get it at MFS also), some empty bottles (<$1 each) and some pipettes (very cheap). If you're doing larger batches, some beakers and larger syringes would be helpful. I got some 100mg when I started, but mixed it all down at once, so I got some 250ml bottles. After that, I just started buying 48mg. It was so much easier since I vape 24mg.
Vapornoob
I heard I can simply buy nic juice VG based and that the flavorings will have enough PG? I won't be mixing all mine down at once since I'll be doing multiple flavors. I got a fairly strong blueberry eLiquid and just don't think its strong enough lol I think I'm gonna be one of the flavor obsessed DIYers :p
kitsune
Its good to cut the 100mg/ml liquids down for saftey. at 100mg/ml its lethal. Its easiest to cut it down to double the nic strength your normally vape. for me I cut mine to 36mg/ml....I vape at 18-24, makes mixing a bit easier in the long run and a bit less lethal. if you get the 100mg/ml you can get plain VG to dilute with and some 30ml or larger bottles. ecig express has a decent price on VG and PG in liter bottles (17.99)... you can buy it by the gallon for cheaper on other sites, but it would go bad before it could be use. http://www.amazon.com/Glycerin-Vegetable-Kosher-USP-Quart/dp/B004C7MTLA This is a quart of VG for 11 and change. you want to stick with USP (pharmaceutical grade) if you can. Do you have access to android....found a great app eliquid recipe manager. Great for calculating strength and multiple flavorings.
Vapornoob
Yeah I understand it's lethal I've heard stories but in my own opinion, I can use it one time safely. Get child lock caps (like 20 cents each cap) and gloves when working with it, and it should be safe. I have a 7 month old, so I won't be taking the risk multiple times I'll probably cut to 48mg/ml to be safe. Kit: I don't have an android anymore, I only have iOS. And so I should just get VG standalone but not PG? Oh, and Kit, thanks for linking me to something that accepts paypal btw! kitsune
I have both VG and PG on hand for mixing. I have a tendency to use more PG, but do use the VG now and Again. A liter of each will last me a long time !!. this calculator looked pretty decent.... http://www.ahlusion.us/e-juice-calculator.html I know you'll be safe. especially with a kid around. good to store extras in a cool dark place. You got lucky....didnt know they took pay pal I'll PM you in a few and let you know what I have.
Vapornoob
Oh well I'll just splurge and buy both I'll use the calculator when I start mixing, and so you use VG based Nic right? I'm damn careful around kids they don't know any better and I'll make sure to leave extras in a dark area I have a nice walk in closet that is typically cool and dark, so I think that will suffice
kitsune
I am mostly a PG base person. It really is personal preference. Poppa was the the VG base mixer. I only use a bit of VG in my mixes to add a little extra vapor. I like the throat hit of PG better. with VG the flavors get a bit muted (can always add more flavor), VG has the added advantage of being slightly sweet. For flavorings good to have on hand Marshmallow (very good sweetener). I love the caramel flavors too. These are my favorite flavors: caramel, Tiramisu (Flavour Art), Coffee espresso (Flavour Art), butterscotch (PA or flavor west), cinnamon, menthol (used very sparingly-1-2 drops) helps add a little kick to the flavor without tasting like menthol. Watermelon-Lorann or flavor west,
Vapornoob
Oh okay so I just gotta decide if I want more vapor or more flavor. Hard choice but I'm a flavor guy So I wanna get PG based Nic, VG, PG, flavors, especially sweeteners. And obviously the tools used to mix the eLiquid. I hope I'm not missing anything cause tonight will probably be shop night and I wouldn't want to miss anything! :P
kitsune
couple 3 ml bottles good for mixing small amounts until you find a mix you like enough to make in a larger batch. forgot to add Flavor west: sugar cookie and chocolate mint. chocolate mint mixes really well with the coffee espresso. sounds like you will have a good start. PM sent. Just remember to start mixing with small amounts...and add flavoring a little at a time, taste and add if you need more. also remember to keep track of your recipes......
