First Battery Mod...where To Start?

Hello all, I'm brand new to this forum and well vaping in general. I know this question is like beating a dead horse at this point but where do I begin to make my own PV? I've seen hundreds of mods on forums and youtube. I know madvapes sells diy kits. Should i start with one of those and go from there? I know the basic ideas of putting one together but where I get lost is the different ratings for the buttons, resistors, led's, etc. I basically want to build a device that does either 3.7 to 6v (depending on batts) or i want to do a VV box. I need to do all of this as cheap as possible because my wife is pretty unhappy about the amount of $ I've spent on vaping stuff in the last month...if someone could link me up with a walk through and a parts list or at least general guidlines on parts. I do have a local radio shack, i went today and looked and they had so many different buttons and resistors, etc I felt lost. I don't want to rig up something thats going to fry itself or not perform to its potential either. I'm hoping to stay within about $50 USD including all materials and batteries, etc. Thanks in advance.

P.s. Also would be interested in a 5v passthrough guide...had about 20 usb cords just laying around... :)

PT's are easy to build but it has to put out enough amps. I think you need about 2000ma. I made one from something that plugs into my car lighter socket from something I found in the trash. It can be used at 3v or 6v and it works great after a year and a half. My homade battery mods work well too but I wouldn't recomend them. I used 4 NiMh AA rechargeable batteries and they put out about 4.8v which is ideal but power drops off quickly and so does the charge. Check out pics of threm in the gallery under Mike's pics. They are nothing but batteries, atty conecter(from 510 batery) and a spring switch.

A real box mod kit is very inexpensive and I think it's your best bet.

You can't get the battery connecters from Radio Shack or the batteries and chargers. So MadVapes would be the best place to start. The VV kit has everything you need with one purchase.I use 14500 box mods as my main sled.I have them with 801,808/901 and 510 fittings. They are cheap enough that you can try other atties and carto's without adapters.

I couldn't live without a real PT. I would not fool around with any cheap, resistance adding USB cables and connectors.

Look to see if you or friends have any power supplies from a router. The D-Links are usually 2.4+A and will work well. They are usually high efficiency switching types and do in fact provide the amps they claim.

If you are a 1.6Ω DCC user those will give you ~4V. With any atty/carto that's 2Ω or higher you will get about ~5V.

This was my first PT with RS parts. That's a 2AA box.

The whole thing will cost maybe $15, including the PS, and is about the easiest mod to attempt.

The cheap 2000mA adapters when coupled with cheap USB cables and connectors will never allow you to get the full 2000mA to the atty itself.
