BirdDog
I don't recommend cleaning your atomizers or cartomizers. It is a good idea to blow out your atomizer at least once a day and especially when changing up liquid flavors. The burning flavor you are experiencing can come from just wear and tear and it also could be from the wick. You can try removing the wick, but more than likely it will break the coil. Removing the wick is not a simple task and it can damage your atomizer. You should only remove the wick if you are direct dripping. There are videos showing how to de-wick an atomizer. Personally, I don't bother.
mcquinn
I used to use 801's and 302's a lot .As with any atty I use ,when they get to the point that you feel they need cleaning go for it .Fix it or finish it off.I soak mine with denture tabs and the do several rinses .Sometime it helps sometimes it don't .If it just needs freshened it should be cleanable but if it is carboned up where it is not making good vapor just getting very hot to the touch it is probably junk.
