Hey everybody,

Tried an automatic e cig a while back with some enjoyment. After a few days when my taste buds start coming back the vapor started tasting horrible. I began smoking again. Saw the Icon V1.1 from puresmoker and thought I'd give it another try. First two days, GREAT!! Third day, Now that funky metallic taste is coming back again and I can't figure out why it tastes horrible again all of the sudden. Has anyone experienced this rude taste? Is it just part of vaping? Is there a better e juice to use? PG vs VG?

Thanks : )

That's not the e liquid. That metallic taste is the atomizer burning up. This usually happens when you don't keep adding enough liquid. If your using cartridges, ditch them and just drip right into the atomizer instead. (About 3 drops every 5 puffs) That will help prevent that taste.

You may also want to look into Cartomizers. That will take care of the problem all together.

I have been using attys and cartos, I watched a ton of different youtube videos on how to fill them too. I feel like maybe it is the juice. What do you think PG vs. VG etc. Is there one type of juice that you think might make a difference or one that you prefer?

When using cartomizers hands down PG works better because it's not as thick as the VG e liquid. When using Atomizers I prefer to use Joye branded atomizers. When using Cartomizers Boge brand soft top tend to have the least issues with bad taste.

It has nothing to do with juice flavor or whether it has a PG or VG content that would be causing the metallic taste. I agree with Chris about the coil burning because there is not enough liquid. You really have to stick with it and just keep working at it to find what will works. I have used a 50/50 mix in a cartomizer. It will work, but because it is thicker, you have to be very patient and wait for it to soak in when filling and topping off.

Nice, just using the new LR double coil carto, it seems to be doing the trick quite nice. Lots of flavor, still a bit funny taste though. Using Tonic USA e liquid, some flavors better than others as far as that weird taste goes. Maybe I'll try a few different brands, anything come to mind?

Keep in mind that LR cartos and attys burn MUCH hotter than regular atomizers. So you'll have to drip often. The problem with the LR atomizers is that they burn the flavor faster than the liquid itself.

LR atomizers: More vapor less flavor

Regular Atomizers: more flavor less vapor

(In general anyway)

I have had great luck with liquids from the VT store and from wordup. It does sound like you are vaping faster than the liquid can wick to the atomizer. Its one of the reasons I prefer dripping. When I drip, I just add liquid as I need it. 5-6 draws for every 2 drops. I never had much luck with cartos--I vape faster than it can wick.

I have recently moved to the 510-tank with my ego. no filler for the liquid to wick through. the tank cart holds about 1/2 ml of liquid.

I also find the fruit type flavors and the coffee type flavors work the best for me. usually about 50/50 (PG/VG).

Lots of trial and error when first beginning the vaping journey. We all have our preferences when it comes to devices, flavors etc.

be sure you're not switching around flavors too much without cleaning in between, especially with cartomizers. the main idea is to keep your atty/carto wet, over time you'll learn how often you need to be re-wettening. have you tried mellonica yet? it's my favorite by far of all the TONIC liquids, bananaca is also quite good. the mixture of pg to vg has a lot to do with both delivery method and preference, for me personally, it has a lot to do with flavor. for instance, with fruit flavors, i never want more than 20-30% vg, but with coffee flavors, it's pretty much the opposite, 20-30% PG, 70-80% VG, with everything else, 50/50 works well. different manufacturers do things a bit differently, i know puresmoker's TONIC is always between 60% and 100% PG depending on the juice, sweet-vapes will do any mixture you want, and they seem to be the only juice manufacturer that can make really good juices with a lot of vg (organic kona kream (100% VG) is quite excellent), but high vg juices take longer to wick into polyfill, and don't work well at all above 50% in tank systems.

Also, when you're starting a new atty, it'll take a lot more juice to get it going at first, then the regular 3 drops per 5 or so puffs, if it tastes bad, add juice, if it still tastes off, might be time to clean it, dried juice in your atty can taste remarkably bad.
