How Does The Atomizer Work With Carts?

I've looked around a bit and haven't actually found how the atomizer gets the ejuice. I know the parts of an ecig and I don't see how if you're nearly running out, it still produces anything.

I am referring to cartridges and cartomizers, if anyone didn't catch on, heh.

Gravity. You put the cartridge on, the liquid slowly passes the bridge and hits the atomizer. Simple

But I see it as backwards how it works. I'd think the fluid would go towards your mouth from the suction. Of course, I've never held an e-cig, let alone vaped, so what the heck do I know.

Inside the mouth piece is a plastic barrier that stops liquid from coming back up. While it's true, if you pull hard enough the liquid would probably come out of the cartridge, it's not like sucking on a milk shake. You take long easy drags.

The bridge of the atomizer itself actually pokes into the cartridge. This causes the liquid to draw towards the atomizer.
