Some Noob Questions

Howdy folks...

Just received my eGo from VT today, and tried it out a little bit. I bought the e-cig so I could try to quit analogs, my son and wife think they're neat (wife smokes too, son has been dogging me for years now to give up analogs). I ordered the eGo kit with 16mg of Apple Dapple e-liquid free bottle. However, I've got some Noob questions about this sort of thing, and some first impressions.

First, my background:

Wife and I smoke approx. 1.5 packs a day of Marlboro "golds" (what used to be lights). I've been smoking since I was 17, I'm 38 now, and can barely breathe (another part of why I bought the e-cig) - used to sing opera, can't hold my breath at all now - sucks. What I'm looking for out of an e-cig is the following:

1) Want to maintain the same essential nicotine intake and feeling as now with my analog habit

2) Want to quit inhaling nasties from analogs, and exhaling things that kill my family (and my clothes, hair, etc).

3) Want to be around for the marriage of my son (13 years old), and daughter (she's about 17 months old now), and preferably well past that. The only major vice I have is smoking.

First Impressions:

1) Hits are pretty easy to pull. I thought the manual button magic would be a hassle, but it's pretty much right where I would put my fingers with an analog anyway, so no big deal.

2) Vapor. Brandy new atty, makes decent enough vapor for me I think, although it's pretty low compared to an analog.

3) Flavor. Don't get much flavor (I'm direct dripping, 3 drops per "episode" if you will), and the outgoing smell is minimal (checked with my son, who says there's a little bit of an apple smell, but that's about it) - should there be more?

4) Ease of use. I'm not real fond of having to dump 2-3 drips in the atty every time, but it's not that big a deal.

5) Frequency. I have absolutely NO IDEA how long this one bottle of Apple Dapple will last - need serious help there.

Questions:

1) I don't have a problem with the manual button per se, but I'm wondering, can you direct drip with the eGo automatic, or will it gunk up the works (e.g. the battery?)

2) How can I tell when my atty needs cleaning, or when the atty is running dry? I've pulled lots of hits (with vapor) off the atty after only a 2-3 drip fill, and I want to make sure I don't damage anything in the unit by running it dry. Is lack of vapor output (from my mouth) a good indication that I need to re-fill the atty?

3) Apple Dapple seems nice and smooth, although I've noticed at one time a bitter-ish taste (after a fresh fill and about 7-8 drags) - is this the atty getting dry?

4) Would you all recommend a tank system for someone like me who wants minimal interruptions (my work requires pretty intense concentration)?

5) Any idea when VT will offer a tank system? I'd prefer not to go through 10 other suppliers - if possible - for equipment and juice (privacy, cc info, etc).

6) How long will this bottle of Apple Dapple last me (or any other liquid for that matter?) A general approximation is fine, I just need to know how much "stock" I need to have on hand at any given time to not run out and smoke analogs.

Phew - sorry about that, but I REALLY want to quit, and REALLY have questions that my constantly rampaging brain thinks up. I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but for now, I thank you all in advance for taking the time to respond.

Thanks, and Peace,

Fiberchunks.

Welcome Fiber to the forum. Glad that you made the switch. There is a small learning curve when making the switch. It sounds like you have a pretty good handle on how this all works.

I am not real sure about the automatic batteries for the Ego. Most automatic batteries are not sealed and dripping can harm the insides. However, the Ego battery is much better than the original stick batteries. Hopefully someone will be able to answer this question more clearly.

A lack of vapor production from the atomizer is an indication that you will need to add a few more drops. You should be getting about 5-7 draws before needing to re-drip. I don't clean my atties, I am lazy and they are disposable. But to make them last a bit longer the best thing you can do is to blow them out at night. You can also twist up the end of a paper towel and stick it in the atomizer and turn it upside down to drain overnight. Works quite well.

Apple Dapple is a nice smooth vape. Juice flavor is subjective and what you might like, I might hate. Because you have smoked for so long your taste buds will be re-adjusting themselves. You should notice an increase in taste and smell. Some flavors will be stronger than others. The bitter taste after 7-8 drags could indicate a dry atomizer.

I do not have the tank system. It appears that people are really liking it and that it is simple enough to use even for a noob. The Vapor Talk store will have them in stock after the Chinese New Year is over. You should also try the cartomizers. Easy to fill and will let you go out and about without the worry of dripping. They are really affordable also.

As for how long your bottle of juice will last that is hard to say. If you are vaping constantly probably not very long. On average, most people, will vape about 2-3ml a day. It is best if you always have more than one bottle of juice on hand. It is also cool to have other flavors to suit your taste when the mood arrives. I have a stash of liquid and I switch up my flavors all day.

Thanks for the response. I read that the auto-batteries weren't sealed, and that is precisely why I asked. I'd like to try and get as close an analog as possible (as far as method goes, I don't give a damn how it looks). I'm lazy like you -- OR -- should we say that we are people of maximum possible efficiency ;)

2-3 ml a day - hm. I'm not sure how many drops that equates to, any idea?

Oh yeah, one other thing I think that's important, but I'm not sure. Once the eGo charging light turns green (indicating it's done charging), is it safe to leave it in the charger, or should I remove it? I'd like to maximize my battery life (the life of the unit, not the daily life).

Thanks again for your response, I appreciate it.

Welcome and congratulations on your ego. I have a tank and it is very easy to use, you fill it up and it last a lot longer than dripping. You might want to pick up some cartomizers, you fill them up and they too last longer than dripping, some people use them for driving, etc. when you can't drip.

Atomizers also have a break in period,so your vapor production should increase. I dont clean mine either except to blow them out and let them sit on papertowel overnight. Good luck!!

Welcome to Vapor Talk! :) 1ml is approx. 25-30 drops. I smoked 1 1/2 packs a day and now I'm using 15-20ml per week. However, it's different for everyone. Be sure to have plenty on had and eventually you'll get an idea of how much you use in week.

While it's suppose to be safe to leave the battery on charge, I don't recommend it. There have been a few reported incidents of batteries melting and/or catching fire. To me, it's just not work the risk of leaving it to charge over night. Many do it without any problems, but it only takes one faulty battery or charger and it could be tragic.

Hi  Welcome to VT. I'm still a Noob too so I try to help the best I can.

Q 1 From everything I have read It can damage the battery so it direct dripping is not advised.

Q 2 I have problems with this myself. But in general you will only get between 8-12 hits for every 2 or 3 drops. This also depends on what attys and carts your using, and how long or short your drags are.

Q 3 Most likely it is getting dry.

Q 4 I have had a tank for about 2 hours now. I have no idea how well it works or lasts in the long run. My first impression is that is very simple to use. It has a nice, smooth consistent draw. The flavors seem a bit weak though. Good for a Noob? Yes so far. Much better than refilling constantly. Just remember it can break :(

Q 5 No idea, I understand the concern, saying that I have had good luck with recommendations from VT

Q 6 Not long is right. I would try several flavors from a few places. It really helps in the quitting process IMHO. Several strengths are recommended also. I would suggest at least 1 24 mg juice for the times you really want to smoke.

I hope that helps a little. Good luck to you and your wife! :animier: You will do great!

Brian said what I would have said. So I won't bother being a repeat.

Thanks for all your responses folks - it is very appreciated. It's amazing how many options / configurations / things that I can buy in this realm. I get to spend more money - yippee!

I like the apple dapple flavor, it's kinda mellow, like not smoking anything at all really. Anyone know if VT ever gets fluids in 8 or 0 mg nicotine? Like I said, I want to quit, so lightweight nic levels would be good.

Thanks again,

Fiberchunks

Congrats! I got the eGo first thing out as well, and just bought a tank so I could go longer without having to stop and drip. At home, when I'm sitting around, I drip. To me, adding those drips is kind of like the whole ritual of getting out the lighter and lighting up, kind of soothing and ritualistic.

So far, as a newbie, I have bought my juices from www.tasyvapor.us and I like them a lot - especially the Atomic Cinnacide. Other flavors were so mild that at first I thought, what the heck? But then I realized (from reading here) that my taste buds are probably DEAD from smoking for 35 years, so I'm hoping that comes back. I know Tasty Vapor allows you the option of choosing your own nicotine strength - I am still at 24 mg right now because I smoked a pack a day and I reeeeaaallllyyy did not want to smoke again.

I will tell you that I got my juice on a Friday night and played with it a little, ran out of cigarettes that night, and have not had one since. Have had a few cravings since then but just pulled long and hard on my eGo and, once I got my nicotine fix, realized that vaping tastes a thousand times better than cigarettes ever did. Havn't picked up a cigarette since!

if it helps any im a newbie to the eGo as well, the cone does inhibit the draw, so ive removed mine, turns out the little cap does as well, so i will be buying a drip tip, as for liquid

I was a pack a day smoker, i believe im going through about 15 ml a week or so, and will be needing to think in advance about purchasing more juices...

cartos, i need to get more of those as well, i think im using about one a week at this rate, i have not begun direct dripping because i am a chicken about killing attys, i am keeping my attys as back up should anything go wrong with my cartos lol

i know i will need to think about buying back up devices, and i really want to try the pass through for vaping in the car and at the computer...

i hope some of my newbie thoughts might be of some help to you :)

Welcome to VT. You can clean attys. There are several methods, do a search and you will find videos on how to. I do the rubbing alcohol method. I buy the rubbing alcohol with the highest alcohol content. Everclear works very well too. Drop the atty in a glass, cover with alcohol and let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes (depending on how dirty it is). Take it out and blow out from both ends. Then let it sit for 24 hours. It has worked for me everytime. Keep in mind that I am a noobie too. I've only been at it for a little over 4 months.

I ready on the Joye web site that it is not good to leave the battery plugged in longer than necessary for at least the first several charges. I try not to let it sit too long period. Sometimes I forget, but no problems as of yet.

Good luck.
