Dewicking An Atty

Ok, VaporTalkers, do you dewick your atomizers? If so do you:

a. do it before you even use it?

OR

b. do it after you've used it a while to try to improve performance?

I dewicked one today before I used it at all and I managed to kill it. Poor LR VT atty. :( When I pulled at the wicking threads with my new tweezers (very needle nose), I managed to pull the bridge and other things up a little bit, too. Not cool. Very sad.

So I found another new atty I had laying around in its wrapper (not from VT) and decided not to dewick it yet. It tastes terrible. I blew it out before use, but I can't get a chemical taste out of the draw. This chemical thing hits my throat like nothing I've experienced. Maybe it will be better tomorrow after I blow it out again tonight.

Thoughts? What do you all do with new attys?

I have gone both ways on this. Sometimes I remember to remove the wick before I use it, sometimes I wait until it tastes bad.

I haven't had one fall apart on me yet. I usually just pull out any threads I can see. I don't always get them all out.

Sorry you have a dead attyX.gif

New atty's really can taste very, very bad. did you drip any liquid onto the atty?? I usually find for a new atty I use 4 drops to get things going--some times I add an extra couple drops if it tastes really bad.

Hey Aimee,

I'm so sorry to hear about your atty, bummer! I de wicked two new attys Friday morning. It was my first time and I was so nervous. I felt like I was doing brain surgery. LOL It took me a while. I thought the wicks were one piece, like the filler in the carts. Wrong! I used a magnifying glass and my professional tweezers (the ones I told my daughter to NEVER use on anything but eyebrow's. I won't tell if you don't. LOL) .

I looked at all my old atty's that I got from the off brand companies that I dealt with when I first started and none of them had wicks. I was shocked.

Maybe some on here has some tips that you can do to repair your atty.

Life is one big lesson.

Sharon

I tried it on a couple that weren't working very good anyway. All I got was a leaky version of what I had before. The wickk helps hold the liquid in the vicinity of the element and when its gone the liquid just runs through.I decided if my atties don't respond to cleaning it is just time to toss them ,a fresh atty tastes very good.

The very first thing I do is remove the wick and bridge. I find that I will eventually remove the wick and bridge anyways so why not do it at the beginning.

I mostly do it so I can see how much juice is on the coil. 99% of the time I go by tastes to tell me when to add more juice, but I like the visual inspection as well.

This also lets me see when the coil is getting junked up. Dark VG juice is the worst for junk.

I hear the complaint from some that removing the bridge causes more leaks, but I have not found this to be true for me. I do drip more often (2 drops MAX). There is less in there to hold the juice.

I am with brijmin. I de-wick and de-bridge first for the same reasons. :construction: I mostly go by flavor, (which I find to be stronger) with no atty/wick. I am a stationary vaper though, and do not mind dripping less drops more often. I also have not had a problem with leaking juice.

**Disclaimer: I have only been vaping for 8 days. Any advice or observations I give are only from my personal experiences. YMMV.**
