easilyamused
ok, new to the eGo, love it, new to cartos... questions... ok, been topping it off, today it really started to give me some issues, and i think its leaking, so, grabbed a new carto thinking that maybe it was time for a new one, so now on cart #2 and the damn thing wouldnt fill with condom method, took forever to fill from the top and the draw is harder... could there be something wrong with the carto? and how many days do you usually get off a carto? and thanks in advance, im sure this thread will be hit by other newbies with the same questions
Jeffb
It could be that the filler is too tightly compacted. Try using a paper clip to fluff it up while being careful not to touch the center heating element.
easilyamused
thanks, it is definitely packed too tight, i can barely get it to budge with the paper clip... not sure if i want to give up on this one and grab another or keep trying
easilyamused
lol got it working, not sure what i did right, picked at it, pulled at it, flooded it, blew it out, but now its working... sigh, this is all trial and error isnt it
juliery
It takes playing around with them. My husband and I have been using the same couple hundred cartos we were using a year ago....we boil them to clean them every 3-5 refills, soak them in everclear/cheap vodka after another 3-5 refills, and they are still going strong. In a year only about 10 have died. But there is a learning curve....you start getting an idea of what they need to look like when filled but not overfilled. Not all cartos have the same amount of filler. I don't use the bottom fill/cart condom method, way too messy and too much waste. I use the top fill method. Once you loosen up the filler on the ones where it is packed so tight it pretty much stays loosened up. Good luck

easilyamused
well... now it morning, and that carto... lets just say more vapor is leaving the device before it ever enters my mouth, im really thinking i got a bad one in the batch... btw has anyone tried to the 510 cartos from the VT store? experiences? mine are supposedly Boge, for whatever thats worth lol, i am still a newbie
juliery
I have never had that happen....but I am using a kr808 device, not a 510. A carto is a carto though and they are the same, just the connection is different. How is the vapor leaving the carto before it gets into your mouth? On mine the only place for the vapor to come out is the hole in the cap, which is obviously in my mouth. There is nowhere else for anything to come out....unless I were to inhale and then blow into it, then it can come out the bottom of the vents in the battery. But the only time I have ever blown into one is to shut off a auto battery when the shut off fails. Anyway, just curious what you mean and where the vapor is even coming from? Try another carto,....then you will know if this is just a lousy one, which of course can happen. Every so often I have gotten a bad carto....maybe like 3 in the thousand I have? DAYVAPE
The Boge cartos are pretty much the best ones out there... same thing VT Store sells I believe, yes. You just gotta make sure that whatever cartos you buy, they don't have gold threads, other than that you should be fine. Just remember, cartos are alot cheaper to make since they are supposed to be disposable, so therefore the quality/consistancy will suffer. It does seem to me that the last couple of months things like the tight filler, etc. have been getting more frequent. I don't know what the deal is... maybe they just are putting forth to much effort trying to come up with a carto that works better! I hope that they realize that it's not good practice to be selling the 'latest/greatest' carto ... that has to be modded to work at all! easilyamused
seems to be coming out the vent holes actually, as i draw, so lol went back to carto #1 to see of im just plain crazy of if something it defintely wrong with carto #2... perhaps i was premature in believing carto #1 was dying as it is still working well... must remember not to flood it though lol.... To be honest, at least for me anyway, cartos will work much better after all the juice has had a chance to saturate the filler properly. I typically fill up a couple and put the little rubber 'condoms' on and let it sit thread end down overnight (or longer) before I start using it. If you fill one up and try to use it right away, you could very possibly get a 'weak' or 'burnt' kind of taste. I think this happens to alot of people when they first try a carto and then they make a post about how the flavor is crap in cartos vs. atty's, etc. For me personally, it's actually better flavor/vapor! You should just try filling a few in advance and letting them sit until you area ready for them. And it won't hurt them to be sitting there like that for quite some time actually... the longer the better I have found. ripple
Okay I will add on to the noob questions of the carto's. I am having the most luck with them getting started - it seems like a great beginner method - but also has a good deal of other applications. That being said I have what I know are some really simple questions but figure you all are likely to provide so great insight here. I think it makes sense to add them in here but if its considered a bit of a hijack just say so. So here they go: 1. Do you generally only use the same favor juice in a carto - at least in between cleanings? 2. How do you tell your cartos apart, right now I have two active and filled cartos - besides vaping with one, are what do you do to organize of label them? these might be silly questions, but when its all new to you - you just don't know. CoffinLess
I have a carto for each flavour I use. When switching flavours, I reload the current carto, replace its condoms and attach to the flavour bottle with an elastic band. Works for me! Hope this helps. fran1959
I use one flavor per carto too and just keep refilling them. Walmart sells in the section for hair accessories colored rubber bands that come in different colors and different sizes. One size is perfect for carto and next size up for your bottle of juice, this way you know what is in each one. Good luck!!!
ripple
Well those are great ideas - I knew y'all have this figured out. Right now its easy enough since I only have four flavors and four cartos, but I know this will become more challenging as the collection expands. Thanks. TroopX
well... now it morning, and that carto... lets just say more vapor is leaving the device before it ever enters my mouth, im really thinking i got a bad one in the batch... btw has anyone tried to the 510 cartos from the VT store? experiences? mine are supposedly Boge, for whatever thats worth lol, i am still a newbie I bought a pack of the boge cartos. The first one was horrible. It was like the flavor was being filtered, not much vapor, and a tough pull. I wasn't going to use cartos again, but luckily #2 and 3 in the pack work very well. I didn't read every response- but might I suggest trying the ego-T tanks? As I understand, they work with the ego batteries just fine. No more cartos to deal with. You just need the tanks and at least one ego-t atomizer. With a discount code at totally wicked, it was right around $25.
ripple
I was wondering about the eGO t-tank, it seems as though it is a great approach, a middle ground of the convenience of cartos, while closer to dripping. I guess I know my next purchase!

For what it's worth... when you get a carto like that again and it has a really hard draw, etc. That typically means that the airflow hole/path is blocked off somewhere. The easiest fix is to bend out the end of a large paperclip and stick it thru the hole in the threaded end and up and out the mouthpiece end. Then you can grab a hold of the end sticking out the top and gently wiggle it around and straighten out the filler so that the hole centers up and then try vaping on it again. Just a thought if you got another one like that in the future. Oh yeah... I placed my order for the eGo Tanks/Atty today! Can't wait to try! I have this funny feeling that I'm immediately going to wish that there was a LR version available! I'm so used to vaping higher voltage, etc. that it's pretty obvious when going back to 3.7 volts. Oh well, we'll see. Edited January 26, 2011 by DAYVAPE
