thorne
When you all are out and about, do you ask for permission or forgiveness? I figure most places won't say anything, but I got some dirty looks at the DMV this afternoon. I wasn't approached by anyone, but there was a lady in the corner who almost cut me in half with her obvious disdain. I finally put up my new 510 mid-vape to keep her from embolizing in the waiting area. So I was feeling guilty, even though I don't feel like I was doing anything wrong. How do you all broach this in public?
brijmin
I generally don't vape in non-smoking places. When I do its on the sly. Its not that I don't want to, or can not handle the looks and comments. I really just don't want to explain what I am doing to a complete stranger. I usually just go to the bathroom and vape in a stall.
juliery
I have never asked for permission....I KNOW I am NOT doing anything wrong. HOWEVER I don't make a big show of it either. I swallow the vapor since there is no real need to exhale it, or blow it toward the ground, and no one usually even notices. The times people have noticed the ONLY times I have been approached was for people to ask if it was "one of those electric/electronic cigarettes". Most people around here know what they are because there are kiosks, usually more than one, of different brands at all the malls, and they have a stand in all the major gas stations of the disposable and/or cheapo variety. I never started vaping in order to be able to vape where I wasn't permitted to smoke so I do not go out of my way to antagonize people. On some message boards I have seen people saying that they purposely blow billowing clouds to get a reaction, which quite frankly I think it ignorant. I have also seen people who vape ONLY in public where they aren't allowed to smoke, and at work, etc....and the rest of the time they smoke regular cigarettes. I don't hide that I vape, but I don't make a production or show out of either. I vape in hospitals even.....the last time was funny because it was while bringing my dad for an angiogram. One of the cardio nurses, who is a smoker was totally interested, and I had to explain all about it....she knew what it was but didn't know anyone who actually used the device. So then several of her co workers who are also smokers came into my dad's room/cubicle to check it out. I thought it was funny....at a hospital. They didn't ask me to not use it or anything...they were totally cool with it, as are my doctors...I vape there too. I haven't had any problems, and why should I ask permission to do something that isn't NOT permitted? I have gotten strange looks but I don't really care about the opinions of complete strangers who I know nothing about. I also get strange looks when I use my handicapped placard and have even had people say things to me, like why am I in a handicapped spot when I am so young. One time my dad was with me and this old man was screaming at me...mind you he couldn't even see my lower body since I was still in my car...he came right up to my window and said I had no business in the spot....so I was saying, "really? call my doctor then" and my dad went totally off and asked the guy if he was some sort of cop or parking monitor and told him to F off and mind his own damn business. The guy looked terrified...it was pretty funny. Anyway, I learned a LONG time ago not to give a crap if people look at me.
Uma
That's a good question, it's such a delicate issue. So far, personally, I haven't asked anyone. I stealth vape in public group situations, and openly vape when others afford me my personal space and aren't crowding me. I'm proud to be vaping instead of smoking and I hope others will be curious enough to investigate the pv for themselves or their loved ones. I'm not hiding my light, but I'm not invading other's spaces either. But, it would be nice to have a nice polite (and confident) way to approach business's and groups and I'm eagerly awaiting the many responses right here with you. juliery
I am eagerly awaiting a day where so many people are vaping none of this will be an issue, LOL. At least in this area people are very familiar at least with what it is. Even my parents, who HATED me smoking, this it is great. My dad especially, said it is common sense that it isn't polluting the air and I am not clogging my lungs or exposing anyone to my second hand smoke. I was never allowed to smoke in their house but they let me vape and are totally happy that I quit. My sister quit after having H1N1 that was severely complicated by the fact that she didn't seek immediate medical attention AND continued smoking when she could barely breathe. She ended up in ICU for weeks on a ventilator, and has to see a pulmonary specialist since November 09 when she finally recovered. She was in the hospital for nearly a month, and it was questionable as to whether or not she would even live. Anyway, she obviously didn't smoke for that month and the several doctors caring for her told her that the scarring in her lungs and bronchial tubes was so severe that restarting smoking could seriously endanger her life. As it is she has to use inhalers and nebulizers all day long, even while at work she has to use a small nebulizer she keeps there. So my parents are glad that we are finally BOTH not smoking, regardless of how we stopped. Neither of them were smokers and were always totally disgusted that both their children smoked at all. Anyway, sorry, off topic. I think by the mere fact that so far other than one person on a similar thread saying his boss didn't want him vaping, there has been no problem with anyone vaping wherever they are. I think for the most part, if someone saw it, once they figure out you aren't smoking, they either figure out or know what it is.....don't care what it is so long as we aren't smoking, or want to know what it is.....it is all a good/positive sign and move in the right direction in general. My husband vapes at work, not a lot, but his boss couldn't care less, and several coworkers have also stopped smoking and are now also vaping. He also vapes in the break/lunch room and no one has any issue with it.
Jolly
you should explain it to the owner or person in charge before doing so. but i dont. i vape up w/e i am. when someone says you cant smoke i say; "whos smoking? oh this its vapor much like when you cook on the stove." juliery and Uma
thorne
I wouldn't have even tried in the DMV earlier but I was in there for an hour and change, and was getting frustrated. Well, I am headed back to work today, so I guess I will take a quick walk to HR and see if the company has a policy concerning vaping. (I work in a class 100 clean room so I don't think I will be pulling out the Joyetech in there.... But as far as in the halls or the break room... We shall see.) I don't forsee it being so much of a problem in bars and restaurants, and honestly I am so used to planning my comings and goings around when I could "catch a smoke" that it probably won't be an issue at all. (I stall vaped between church services on Sunday and felt a little naughty...) I want to be proud of my newest addiction.
Prouddad
Everyone has a suggestion on the matter of vaping in non smoking areas. My inkling on the matter is I try really hard to not vape in places your not supposed to smoke analogs. I still do vape but on the blind. The reason I do this is because I don't want to give e cig a bad rep. I know that smoking is such a big deal now everywhere you go and for good reasons. But I don't want to be the smart *** and vape any where because I know what I am doing. Because there is no laws to tell me I can't. But I don't want to stir up anything negative about vaping and have them bring it up at a town meeting. We all should be very understanding because people don't know and until the public is educated on vaping we shouldn't vape everywhere just because we can. We don't want to make vaping a bad thing where people start saying these people that vape think that just because there is no law on it that we can do it. And thats what I don't want to happen where they start passing laws on vaping. So let's be courtiest of others who don't know about vaping, so years from now we maybe able to vape everywhere with out people giving us dirty looks. Remember we are paving the path for the future of vapers everywhere. GOD BLESS and keep on vaping ! Remember this is my thought on the matter and no ones suggestions are wrong. DAYVAPE
I don't really give a crap... I vape whenever/wherever I feel the urge. I just don't act like I'm doing something all secretive and look like I'm all worried about what someone is going to say. The more we act like we're doing something wrong the more reason they have to approach us. I just do it, mind my own business, and continue on with my day. I think that we need to be more like this and not worry so much about it until we are TOLD that it is ILLEGAL to use in ALL public places. What's the worst that can happen anyway... they ask you to stop? "OK, thank you sir, I was just leaving anyway!" Or, if I feel like that person might benefit from it, I would then educate them on the e-cig and explain the difference. It's all about RESPECT. Let's all just go ahead and vape everywhere, that will defiantly get the right attention we need. There are always limits to everything and when you start pushing the limits thats when somebody will set them for you. So let's just vape and don't give a crap if other people don't like it because no one told me I couldn't. Come on ! I have been diabetic for 31yr now and take five shots a day and tho it's legal for me to pull out my syringe in public and draw my insulin then take my shot I still don't do it in front of everyone. Because some people are uncomfortable with needles and I respect that. And if I just had a baby I would not feel comfortable with the doctor taken a vape while he's checking my baby. And this is coming from someone that vapes 6-8ml a day.
CASEACE79
This is a very touchy subjest so I generally vape in stealth mode.I love doing it at the movies. Not enough people are educated enough to not be judgmental. If someone sees a whit plume exhaled out of our mouth the general consensus is that it is smoke. So I ask myself this question if it would be rude to smoke here? If the answer is no then I vape. If it is yes then I go into stealth vape mode. Except in sbux where everyone knows me and could care less. Uma

DAYVAPE
To each their own! Why should I be all WORRIED SICK about something that is legal to do? Sorry, I'm missing your point on this one my friend... I don't get that 'logic'. It's not harmful to anyone around me if they did get second hand vape... and I would hope that most of us would believe that to be true. I'm just guessing, from what I've read anyway, that there will be no problem in proving that very soon. Until it's not the 'right thing' to do in public places... then I'm not going to worry about upsetting a select few with poor attitudes. Reminder: This is just my opionion again, and thankfully, I'm completely entitled to that still today! Flame suit on... Beans
I'm happy to see this topic, I've been wary about vaping in the open too. I love my eGo so much, but I would really hate to think a few carless vapors out their screwing it up for all of us just for the fun of confrontation. Cheers to all of you responsible vapers out there! Prouddad
