LoriHNC Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Forgive me if this has already been noted, but I just saw a commercial for ecigs on CBS during the news. https://www.smokeassist.com/ It looks like one of those scam deals where they keep charging you for supplies and such. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/health/smoke_assist.html The commercial vowed that one cartridge is equal to one pack of cigs. lol We know that ain't true. It was strange to see a commercial for an ecig. If they would only advertise "good" ones...wouldn't that be great? The fact that they even are being advertised is good though, I guess.
juliery Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 We first saw the e cig on the news, a few years ago. It too was one of those rip off units they were showing, and talking about. I just think nowadays everyone would KNOW to research and check things out. We waited a good year before we ever bought anything. My fear, which I said immediately, you KNOW what will happen....the freaking FDA will get involved, the lawmakers will go nutso because they will lose too much tax revenue. So much campaign funding comes from the pharmaceutical industry and they have so many lobbyists, I just KNOW I will start vaping and they will try to ban them or start some other BS. Sure enough, we started vaping last February and the very next month, I wrote emails to EVERY senator and rep in IL. The senator who introduced the bill to ban them in IL was Terry Link (now retired).....fortunately it got reassigned to some health committee and basically when that happens it just dies. But I have NO doubt whatsoever now they won't be banned, they will classify them as a tobacco product, even though that is idiotic and they will impose a sin tax on them, just like cigs. But that is fine with me, I wouldn't even mind that. I won't be happy, but the main thing is that we can keep vaping. But I am CERTAIN it will NOT be classified as a smoking cessation product, thereby making it ineligible for sin taxation, they will classify it in a way they can tax the heck out of it. Just my opinion. Anyway, I agree, even if someone buys a rip off unit, they are likely to see what is better out there and hopefully move on to bigger and better things. Here, now all the major gas stations have a whole rack of the disposable kind plus some other ones, and they sell only the regular and menthol cartos to go with them. HOPEFULLY it gets people to do some research. So yeah, any ad is better than no ad in this case. Plus even for non smokers, it lets them know what the device is so they don't freak out thinking we are smoking and contaminating their air. SO all around a pretty good thing, I think.
