FloridaKracker reacted to kitsune in Diy-How To Basics
Hopefully Last but not least......
Supplies:
1.Empty dropper bottles- 3ml, 5ml, 10ml sizes are great for mixing.
2. Pipette or syringe with blunt needle. Personally, I prefer using a syringe for mixing--More accurate.
3. paper towel or rag for handling any spills or messes
4. Labels are good for identifying your new mixes. If using paper labels I have found that applying scotch tape over the
label keeps the label legible.
5. mixing calculator helps with acheiving the correct nicotine strength. There are other calculators out there, but I
like Todd Muellers: http://www.todmuller.com/ejuice/ejuice.php . I usually put my flavor at 30 - 40%. I like lots of
flavor.
Mixing -can be simple (combining premixed liquids to create a new flavor) or more complicated, mixing from scratch. Or
somewhere in between.
1. Always start your mixing or experimentation with small amounts. Its much easier to throw out a small amount of liquid
if it turns out bad. The 3ml bottles are great for experimenting.
2. Its a good idea to keep track of what and how much you have added to your mix--just in case you want to make more.
**It is easy enough to mix 2 or more premixed liquids together to get a new flavor. This is easiest if you are using the
same nicotine strength.
i.e.- Tobacco 18mg/Watermelon 18mg/menthol 18mg/pina colada 18mg. The amounts would depend on taste.
Start with 5 drops of each in a 3ml bottle, shake and vape--can adjust the flavor as you want by adding more of one of
the flavors.
with the menthol--using just 1-2 drops/3ml will give a nice cool throat hit without tasting like menthol.
** Can use PG/VG or both to cut a higher strength liquid. i.e.- 24mg premixed liquid 1ml can be mixed with 1ml PG or VG
to make 12mg/ml liquid. If cutting a premixed flavor, keep in mind, it will also decrease the flavor. If you don’t want
the flavor loss you can cut with 0 nicotine strength in the same or a different flavor. You can also use flavorings to
boost the flavor. use the calculator to determine how much PG/VG to use to achieve the desired strength. Just put 0 in
the water and flavor boxes.
** Adding Flavoring to premixed liquids
This is actually one of the easiest forms of mixing and is a great place to start the DIY journey. We all have flavors
we don’t really care for, but by adding flavoring you can create a flavor you like.
Keep in mind--when adding flavoring it will dilute the nicotine strength of the premixed liquid. one way around this is
to get some unflavored higher nicotine liquid- i.e. 36mg that can be added to your mix to keep the nicotine strength at
your desired level.
My preferred nicotine level is 12mg/ml--so I will use that dose for mixing examples.
i.e.-- cappuccino 36mg/ml, 1.7ml + FlavourArt apple pie flavoring 1.5ml + VG 1.8ml for a total of 5ml 12mg/ml.
This is where the calculator comes in handy. Just put in the numbers, hit enter and the calculations are done for you.
This is where having a syringe is helpful.
However if you are using drops, I have found that 30 drops of PG = 1ml and 20 drops of VG = 1ml.
You can use more than one flavoring: cappuccino 1.7ml + apple pie flavoring 1ml + Vanilla 1ml + VG 1.3 ml = 5ml 12mg/ml
Don’t be afraid to mix more than one flavor. When cooking, most dishes require more than one flavor to get the right
taste.
** mixing from scratch
You will need PG and/or VG
Unflavored Nicotine liquid ( I usually use 36mg/ml)
Flavorings of choice
i.e. Easy
Watermelon 12mg/ml
3 ml PG or VG
1 ml Lorann Watermelon flavoring
2 drops Menthol flavoring (Flavourart)
2 ml 36mg/ml Unflavored liquid
i.e. using multiple flavors:
Apple Pie (6ml) 18mg/ml
3 ml 36/mg unflavored
1 ml FlavourArt(FA) Apple Pie
6 drops (Flavourart) Irish Cream
2 drops (FA) perique black (tobacco)
3 drops (FA) menthol
.5ml PG
.5ml VG
3 drops hazelnut
6 drops vanilla
** Misc Notes
Tobacco Flavorings are very, very strong--a little goes a very long way. A couple drops to 5ml will give a nice
background flavor. If using more, add a drop or 2 at a time to taste.
Lorann flavorings are very concentrated. You would use less Lorann than you would with other flavorings.
Avoid flavorings with oils or sugars--both can damage your atomizer.
If you find your mix needs to be sweeter there are a couple of options:
1. Loranns cotton candy or Marshmallow flavorings are great for adding sweetness.
2. DIY flavor shack carrys Eythol Malto which is a sweetener.
3. I actually prefer the Lorann--overall sweeter tasting.
4. I add a few drops of Menthol to all my mixes-adds a cool throat hit and enhances the flavor. Just a little does not
taste like menthol. If you like menthol, just add more.
5. always start mixing with small amounts and keep track of what and how much.
6. For taste testing--dripping works best.
Mixing is a lot of trial and error in the beginning.
Add flavoring a little at a time until you find the balance you like will help keep waste to a minimum.
I am hoping others will be able to add their tips and ideas. the above is just my own opinion and my own experience.
If all or part of this is confusing please let me know-writing documents is not my strong suit !!!!
Merry Mixing

FloridaKracker reacted to StringDancer in Good Karma
A dear friend, business partner and crazy good visual artist (I added a DSE801 to his original drawing of the six-eyed goon to make my avatar) and non-smoker came up to me the other day and said, "Jeff, I want to take you to meet my sister-in-law, who's been a smoker all her life, and it's taking a toll... I want her to learn about your e-cig." Of course I said yes. We arranged a meeting a couple days ago, and I picked up my buddy and traveled the few miles over to his brother's home. I brought along a brand new 801 starter kit just in case.
Well, we've all seen ladies who have been hard-core smokers for decades. This sweet woman is of average height, but if she weighs 90 lbs I'd be surprised. Her face was ashen, gaunt and weathered from a lifetime of smoking. Her husband, my buddy's brother, is concerned for her health... the whole family is. She's in her 60s, maybe, but she has that worn-down, prematurely aged look that long-term smokers can get.
She's one of those devoted tobacco addicts (I know the type, because I was one of them) who know the risks, but love their tobacco and all the ritual that goes along with it, and in spite of everything (or anybody) would smoke to the end. After I showed her the ropes and got the e-cig up and vaping for her, she seemed encouraged that this device might actually make a difference in her life. She took the starter kit, and I threw in some JC 24mg Tennessee Cured juice, figuring a nice strong tobacco flavor will encourage her to vape. Time will tell.
On the way back to my buddy's place, he was quiet for awhile as we twisted my Blazer through the rolling hills of southern Indiana. Then he said, in that quiet artist's voice of his, "Jeff, do you realize that you may have just saved her life?"
We who have transitioned from analogs to e-juice have, at present (or until the damned FDA decides to indulge the lobbyists and finish their ill-conceived crusade against e-cigs) an opportunity to rack up some seriously good karma by introducing our smoker friends and family to e-cigs. Now, what I did was nothing special in the sense that many (perhaps most) of the vapers on this site have also introduced people to e-cigs and helped them to begin, at least, a transition to a healthier way of life. But my buddy's question brought it all home to me. Here's a woman, his sister-in-law of many decades, a beloved member of his family, with whom he has long and deep ties, and he's hoping and praying that she takes to e-cigs and can make the transition to vaping.
It made me happy to make the introduction, of course. But... if she has the will to modify her inhaliatory habit a bit and take up vaping full-time, it'll do much more than just make my buddy and his brother happy. They will be ecstatic, and will remember my trip over to their house as the day I saved her life. Nevermind that it is actually SHE who must do the saving... that's just the way we humans perceive and recall little events like this.
We're not mere salespeople out to make a buck here. Unlike virtually any product we can name, e-cigs hold the potential to save countless lives from a nearly certain unfortunate end. In addition, the more people we can recruit as vaping converts, the more testimonials we can help create by promoting e-cigs to smokers... all this leads to more voices that will rise in defiance, distrust and disdain for the machinations of governmental indulgence of well-financed lobbyists and anti-smoker fanatics, and the greater our chances of seeing this delightful little device spread across the nation as the new, improved and preferred paradigm for inhaliatory pleasure.
So if you can, the next time you buy a starter kit for yourself, consider buying a spare to resell or give to a friend. Toss in an extra atty, throw in a small bottle of good tobacco-flavored juice, teach them the ins and outs of vaping so they don't have to learn things the hard way as many of us had to do. Our government, corrupted by money, influence and a near-total disregard for the truth, will not give us this wonderful alternative to smoking willingly... we must demand it vociferously and in great numbers. When we turn a smoker to vaping, their family also becomes an ally in the coming struggle, as they see for themselves the positive changes vaping makes in the life of their loved one, and by extension, in theirs.
Given the nature of a legislative government body bought and paid for by corporate dollars, we the people will always eventually lose the liberties we do not insist upon retaining. When the great national debate over e-cigs begins, we'll want as many vapers bitching like banshees as possible. Our chances of success will be greatly enhanced if we can crank up the volume.

FloridaKracker reacted to Vacker1229 in How's Your Joye510 Holding Up?
Yep I am a teabag fan, Just take any teabag snip off the end with the string attached. Unfold it and empty the tea. Now you should have a tube of empty teabag (4"x2" aprox). cut about 1/2"-3/4" (depending on the type of cartridge) off of the end so you should have a piece about 1/2" x 2" roll it loosely and stick it in the cartridge and load 'er up.
But alas I have moved on from teabags also. NOW using felt square from craft store. Any craft store has what are called felt squares. About the size of a normal 8 1/2"x11" piece of paper. Price varies from $.20 to $.50 such a deal. I cut a 1/2" by length of cart, fold it once and stick that puppy in. Works like a champ!! and not a lot of fussing with - just need to determine the size that works for your cart. one fold in half is certainly the right thickness.
