  1. It took a while to dig it out, but unless there have been some model changes, the Green Smoke PV, like the ones sold by most of the 'captive audience' ecig operations, uses KR-808D or KR-808D-1 cartomizers. Just Google "blank KR808D1" and then take your pick from the list of vendors that will come up. As far as a suggested vendor, I've never been unhappy with anything I've ever purchased from www.litecigusa.net and they do carry them.
  2. I do exotic tea flavorings on a limited basis from time to time. It's not all that complicated. A simple Google search for "DIY extract" should give you tons of hits to sites that will explain the entire process in great detail. The biggest factors are the time it takes (6,8,12 weeks), and the process used for reducing the extract to concentrate the flavor. And be sure you use clean sterile glass jars. Most reduction methods involve heat, which tends to be detrimental to plastic bottles, not to mention the potential for toxic outgassing from the bottles themselves. Small canning jars work fine, as do clean recycled baby food jars. There's something particularly satisfying about vaping a juice that you not only hand mixed, but actually created the flavoring yourself! BTW, TPA does sell Tea Flavorings as well.
  3. I use the method described here: How to Clean Atomizers
  4. If you are using the smaller Volcano model (l88b) a 306 style drip tip will fit just fine. If you are using the Magma model, any 510 drip tip will work. As for filling the carts, try taking the polyfill out completely, adding about half the suggested number of drops, and then slowly insert the filler, letting the juice absorb into it. Fluff a bit with tweezers or paperclip, then add more drops, fluff. Repeat until the filler has absorbed all it will hold. Best to use a drop or two less than try to overfill, which will cause flooding, and will almost certainly get juice in your mouth.
  5. This one is for Brian who posted a question about making a tangerine flavored ejuice, using TPA tangerine oil that he had ordered in this thread- http://www.vaportalk.com/forum/forum/forum/topic/9294-bolo-tangerine/ Tangerine - 3ml test batch Using a small clean 5-6ml juice bottle add: .10 ml of PGA into the bottom. .10 ml of the tangerine oil. (This is about six drops from the mini-pipettes used for essential oils- accuracy is essential here) Mix/shake the oil & PGA until it is well blended. Add 3ml of your prepared base, in the nic level you prefer Add sweetener(s) if desired. (Typically I would use 1 drop of 1:30 Ethyl Maltol/PG solution & 1 drop of 1:30 agave nectar/PG solution for 3ml) Mix/shake well until blended evenly. Test Vape. If more sweetener is needed add 1 more drop of the agave nectar solution If more flavor is needed at 1 more drop of the tangerine oil. If the flavor is too strong for your taste, add more of the prepared base, in .5ml increments. Once you have the flavor adjusted to your liking, sit back, relax, and enjoy! And save your notes so that next time you can calculate how much to use for a larger batch! Kudos to Guineahill over at ECF who posted the original recipe this one is based on! http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-liquid-recipes/72591-luscious-tangerine.html#post1098449
  6. I think that the reason you see so many warnings out there about not using oil based flavorings is to keep newbie DIYers from trashing every atty they own before they realize they are in over their heads. That statement was by no means meant to be derogatory, but a simple statement of fact. At one time we were all newbie DIYers, and I'm sure most of us can remember some colossal failures in those early stages. The fact is, with proper technique, using oil based flavorings are actually quite effective. But you see posts all the time in DIY forums of folks talking about flavoring an ejuice at 25, 30, and even 40% flavorings. Doing this with an oil based flavoring is going to send you straight to your preferred atomizer supplier for a rush order of replacements. Since a lot of beginning DIYers aren't even aware of the difference, it's easy to see why it quickly became common to say, don't use oils, they are bad. Many helpless atomizers were sacrificed as the price of the lack of knowledge, understanding, and technique. And oil based flavoring became the scape goat for those poor departed atomizers. The trick in using oil based flavorings is in using much lower concentrations, typically starting at 1%, (some oils less, some oils more), and pre-mixing the oils with Food grade alcohol or PGA to help with dispersal. And while it may be true that long term use of oils will slowly degrade the performance of your atomizer, if you have a good effective cleaning method/routine, even this can be kept to a minimum. And yes, you may have to give them a good shake if they have been sitting for a while, but you already do that with ALL of your ejuice, right? Brian - I'll post a basic tangerine recipe over in the DIY Recipes thread for you to try with that tangerine oil!
  7. Recipe for Menthol drops - Standard Concentration This is about the same concentration you get when buying ready made drops from a flavoring vendor Place crystals in TWO baggies, one inside the other, removing as much air as possible. Use a straight sided drinking glass/coffee mug or rolling pin, crush crystals as finely as possible. Measure crystals, add 1 part crystals to 4 parts PGA (method 1), PG (method 3), or 50/50 blend of both (method 2). Use a glass container with tight fitting lid. Method 1 With all PGA base, agitate until all crystals are disolved. Ready to use immediately. Method 2 With 50/50 blend base, agitate until all crystals are disolved, will take longer than all PGA, may need to sit overnight, etc. until all crystals are disvolved. DO NOT HEAT. Method 3 With PG base, set glass container in a basin of hot water, allow liquid to warm up, agitate, repeat until all crystals are disolved. Safety Note: Be sure you are using FOOD GRADE pure menthol crystals, not aromatherapy grade, which may contain impurities!
  8. Typically I have posted the following recipe as an introductory on other forums, so I suppose it's appropriate that I continue with that tradition here at The Vaper Talk Forum. This was the first place recipe from the DIY Flavorshack/Vapersplace DIY Contest last year- Lava Flow 10ml @ 0mg - recipe based on 33 drops/ml PG – 4.24ml – 42.42% – 140drops VG – 3.03ml – 30.30% – 60 drops PGA – .49ml – 4.85% – 16 drops (or distilled water if pure grain alcohol is not desired – better throat hit & flavor w/PGA) Coconut Flavor – .42ml – 4.24% – 14 drops Rum Flavor – .42ml – 4.24% – 14 drops Banana – .42ml – 4.24% – 14 drops Pineapple – .30ml – 3.03% – 10 drops Strawberry – .5ml – 5.45% – 18 drops Ethyl Maltol – .09ml – 3 drops – Mixed @ 30:1 ratio w/ PG Cinnamon Redhots - .09ml - 3 drops (optional) Notes: Even though the original recipe used all flavorings from DIY Flavorshack, you can also use flavorings from TPA. The recipe is complex enough to use either vendor, or mix/match, and still produce a very vapable ejuice. Since this is a zero nic recipe, adjust according to your desired nic levels. For Sweetener I typically use pure agave nectar mixed in a 30:1 ratio with PG. For this recipe I would use .09ml or 3 drops. If you need to substitute an alternate sweetener, such as stevia, probably 2 drops instead of 3 if mixed down to a 30:1 ratio. Some folks like a 'Hot' Lava Flow version. Use 2-3 times more Cinnamon Redhots Flavoring, and reduce the amount of PG to compensate. Because of it's complexity, this one will improve the more it ripens, and will usually take on a deeper color as it ages.
  9. The 'normal' dilution level for thinning VG is to add 20% of the amount of VG, using either distilled water or PGA. There are strong supporters of both ingredients for various reasons. A lot of the ejuice calculators that are in circulation will actually add this in when you enter VG amounts into the recipes. Some folks have a sensitivity to PGA, even in small amounts, much the way that some folks have problems with PG, and these folks definitely avoid using PGA to thin. Others find it a personal decision, and just prefer not to use a 'high octane' alcohol in their ejuice. Proponents of PGA are quick to point out that PGA increases throat hit, which helps counteract the tendency of VG to do the opposite. And many who use PGA claim that it also helps reduce the possibility of a gunked up atomizer that can sometimes result from vaping juice that has a high VG content. As in all things related to DIY, ultimately the decision on which to use is yours to make. As in regards to filling your cartomizers, have you tried or considered using the Taryn spin method for filling? It's pretty darned effective, even if you do sometimes feel a little silly while doing it!
  10. Although the Volcano Magma is a 510 atomizer, they are in fact, just tiny fraction larger than a stock 510 atty. And so are their carts. This means two things: 1) If you try to use stock 510 carts with a Magma atty, the chances are very good the cart will be loose enough to fall out. If you try to use Magma carts with a stock 510 atty, you can force them in, and they will fit very tightly, but after doing this a few times, they will probably be too loose to fit back in the Magma atties. Heating the carts in hot water, and pressing the end of a pen down inside them sometimes helps to restore them to their original shape. 2) It very quickly becomes a PITA to keep track of which carts will work in which atomizers, and vice versa. If you are going to use both, the best practice would be to use different colored carts, black Magma carts for the Magma atties, and either white/tan carts for the stock 510 atties. This still means you have to carry both types around if you are still using both types of atomizers. It's also worth noting here that the Volcano Magma atomizers tend to run at a slightly lower resistance than stock 510 atomizers, so there is a bit of a performance improvement when using them over other stock 510 atties. And as others have mentioned, there are actually 3 types of Vaporizers sold by Volcano. The actual Volcano unit, is indeed, an L88b, like the blu. The Magma is a slightly modified 510 (diameter/resistance) The Inferno, is a rebranded Vgo, with Volcano specific options in the kit.
  11. I honestly don't think that there is a single atty cleaning method out there that I haven't tried at least a half dozen times or more. Soaking in PGA, CPH, denture tabs, coffee pot cleaner, ultrasonic cleaners, dry burning, you name it, I've tried it, with varying degrees of success. Nowadays I pretty much stick to one simple method: 1)Take a coffee cup, fill with distilled water, put in microwave, push button for hot water (1min 30sec) 2)Dump soiled atties into the hot water, let sit until water cools (about 30mins). Agitate occasionally (If I remember to do so) 3)Remove atties, and if water is more than lightly discolored, repeat the entire process again. 4)Using the still slightly warm water, power flush the atomizers using a Turkey Baster with either a pencil grip or cut off carto condom. I usually put this over the cart end, and draw an entire baster full up through the threaded end. Then pulse the water back out the threads. At this point I want to see three even streams of water, one down below and one out either side of my 510 atties. If I'm not getting good flow from the side vents, I block the bottom hole and force more water through the vents to help clean/clear them. 5)Once the water has been expelled, I dry pump the baster about 6 times, to help force any remaining water out of the atty, which makes it easier to complete the final step. 6)If I am not going to use them right away, I turn them thread side down on an absorbent towel, and let them dry. For a while, for a half day, overnight, depending upon how soon I need them. 7) All atties get flood primed before they are used. I drop about 10 drops of plain PG down onto the bridge, let them sit for a few mins, and then blow through the cart end, forcing the PG and any residual water out through the threaded end. 8) Wipe them off, and vape them, or bag them up for later use! This has been my main routine for the past six months, and unless an atty has some serious problems, this tends to handle 95% of my requirements.
  12. Although the typical ejuice does indeed contain nicotine, it does not contain any of the other 2000+ chemicals found in most analogs, which are always adulterated with other chemicals that add to their addictive properties. Since these chemicals are no longer being supplied to the body when you vape, it is a very common suggestion that new vapers start out with higher nicotine levels than their normal analog smoke would provide. This is done to offset the additional cravings for those other chemicals by increasing the nicotine delivered. And while nicotine overdose is certainly possible, it's not usually easy to accomplish. Most folks will get ill, dizzy, headaches, etc, long before they can absorb enough nicotine to cause a serious overdose situation. If you experience any of these types of symptoms, slow down/stop your vaping activity until they subside. It's also not a bad idea to have ejuices in TWO nicotine levels. The higher levels when you first start out, and for those times when you are feeling extra stressed, or nicotine deprived. The lower levels to be used the rest of the time. I know lots of vapers personally that vape at a higher level nic first thing in the mornings, and then switch to a much lower level to use during the rest of their day.
  13. A few things worth considering here: (1) Even at 5 weeks, your sense of taste and smell are still recovering from the effects of smoking analogs. As these senses continue to return to normal, you may discover that flavors you don't like now will actually become quite enjoyable somewhere down the road. Put them aside, and come back to them every once in a while to see if the flavors have 'grown' on you a bit. (2) Some folks say it's an urban myth, others swear it's the Gospel, but some ejuices, particularly fresh ones, need sufficient time to 'ripen' for the flavors to fully develop/blend properly. The solution here is the same as in (1), put them aside, and try again later. (3) At some future date, you may decide to explore the fascinations of DIY ejuice. And adding extra flavorings into an existing juice is an easy way to get your feet wet with DIY. Again, put those juices away for now, and then use them as bases for DIY experimentation at a later date.
