Do you know if they are cotton wicks or silica wicks? most of the new coils are cotton wicks, but if you have the coils with silica wicks you will have a hard time burning them, and will get less burnt taste, with cotton wicks you will burn them fast if you don't prime them.

Coils for a protank are fairly cheap, so if you can't clean them it may be best to buy new ones.
-
I have heard that some people boil them, I haven't tried it, but it might work.
-
Does the Irish Crème gunk up the coils too? Most people notice the darker the juice the more it messes up a coil. The 60/40 mix seems to be a good mix for most people.
-
Do you know what the PG/VG ratio is or is it not stated on the bottle?
-
I mix my own juice and the only difference basically is the flavor and have noticed that some gunk it up more than others. When I use a flavor that gunk's up the coil fast I add a few drops of water to it and it seems to help some.
-
If the coil is getting gunky very quickly it could be the juice you are using, some juice will gunk up a coil faster than other juices.

Bebop is right about the resistance, a .5 coil at 3.7-4.2 volts is 27-35 watts, a 1.0 coil at 3.7-4.2 volts is 13-17 watts. In my opinion 35 watts is too much, I run a .5 coil at 10-12 watts, but everyone has different preferences. I did not like box mods to start with but get a better vape with them, so now I use them.

If you are using 28g Kanthal you will have to go down to 2 wraps to get a .5 coil, or you could go with 26g and use 4 wraps and get .6 coil. I use 28g SS316L and get .5 with 4 wraps. The SS works great for me, but everyone has different preferences. The less wraps you have means the less contact you will have with the cotton. I try not to go below 4 wraps. If you go with 24g 5 wraps will give you .5 ohms

I don't use standard coils in my subtank mini, I use the RBA with .5 coils and if I get above 15w it tastes burnt. I normally use 30PG/70VG mixes and usually stay around 10 - 12 watts and get a good vape. Like Earthling says you can't go by what is printed on the coil, start low and work your way up. I have noticed on TC mode the watts don't pulse over 13 watts when its set at 450f using a .5 coil. Once you burn the cotton its over for that coil, you have to replace the cotton or the coil.

For me the Kanthal has become obsolete. SS is a much better choice not only because it can be used in power mode and TC mode but also it gives much better flavor. There are some that will stick with Kanthal but that is their choice. The only choice I have to make is which grade SS to use, 304 is considered food grade, 316L is surgical grade, and 430 is considered to be ornamental grade. Uwell advertises 316L coils, and Kanger doesn't say what grade they use, but I suspect its 304. The reason I suspect 304 is because running 316L in SUS mode with a Kanger mod I set the temp between 350f - 400f using steam to convert the TCR of 304 to 316L it says I'm running between 400f - 450f no way to actually know what the temp is though. I tried a IR temp sensor on a dry coil but don't get a reading, I probably need a better IR temp sensor. Maybe in the future Kanger will release a update to change it to a 316L TCR curve. But until then I'll just vape at the temp that suits me.

So far I have run the tank empty twice and no burnt cotton, so it seems to work. I'm only running it at 400f and its a 1.2ohm factory coil. it shows 1.26 ohms on the mod, the watts don't jump around as much as it does in Ti mode which might be good. Seen a video where if you use Kanthal in NiCr mode and use the lowest temp setting the coil will not get red hot like in power mode, but it will get hot enough to burn cotton. Only a matter of time and TC will be available for Kanthal. The flavor is better with SS in TC than the Nichrome in TC, just my opinion though.

Another thing to consider is location, I order a lot from VapeNW because they are about 300mi away from me and my order gets here within 2 - 3 days. They also have good customer service. When I order from China it takes about 2 - 3 weeks.

I think the only coils you should not use for power mode is Ni200, and Titanium, I was using SS for coils long before I had TC. If I remember right you have a 50w Subox mini which I use all the time with SS coils. The new Kanger ssocc coils which are designed for power mode use SS coils. The Uwell crown uses SS coils and people use them quite often in power mode. Right now I'm using a Nichrome coil in TC mode, technology is moving quite rapidly in the vaping industry and your local vape shop needs to keep up.

I also did some research and the coils for a Kamry K1000 are readily available online, just because your local shop don't want to stock them don't mean you can't get them. I was just looking at some wood look Kamry K1000 online, and they go for $20 - $30.

Kanger usually makes a very good product, they have had a few products that were not so good, but no company has a perfect record. The Kanger Subox mini and Nano kits are very user friendly and try to stay away from the TC kits if you are just starting to Vape. And yes VT is based in the US, and we try to be friendly, and as helpful as possible.

You can crank the watts up as high as you want, I don't go any higher than 12 watts with my juice, but you may prefer a warmer vape than me. Out of curiosity I just cranked the watts up to 25 and got a good hit a little warmer and harsher than I prefer but not burnt either.
-
I guess what I like the most about TC is you can vape the tank dry without a burnt taste. It used to be when I ran out of juice I would get a burnt taste now all I get is no vape.
-
You will like the SS wire for building coils, there is very little spring to it, and its not as soft as Ni200 but not as hard as Kanthal either. I got 100m of 28g 316l in vape mail the other day so I will be good for a few years. I use 4 wraps around 3mm and get 0.5 ohms which is good for wattage mode or TC mode so now I don't have to remember what wire is in what tank all of them have SS coils.

That looks like a fog machine of some kind, I hope people don't take us seriously and start using a fog machine.
-
Walmart has these mods on sale. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fog-Machine-1000w/12335872 1000w should be enough.
-
Probably wouldn't be much different than dripping juice into the intake on my bike and sucking on the tailpipe, I think I'll pass on that.
-
Is the smoktech variant still the most powerful regulated box mod or is there something over 260w now?
-
Welcome to VT, and we will help as much as we can.
-
I was wrong again the CL is the atomizer model and has nothing to do with the coil, I looked it up and has a kanthal or Nichrome coil in it not a Clapton coil. On your RBA you should be able to just replace the cotton in it. There's probably lots of videos on the net explaining how to do that.
