  1. My advice...go with what you think you will get the most enjoyment out of. For a lot of people, the idea of dripping simply isn't appealing. If you are already considering taking that step, then that tells me you aren't opposed to the idea of dripping. If you think you will enjoy everything involved with dripping, then by all means, go that route. I do both. Tanks during my drive to work, at work and on the way home, then I switch to an RBA and drip at home. For me dripping is relaxing. One other option you can go with - get a regulated box mod, a better tank and an RBA. You don't need a mech mod or an unregulated box mod to drip. In fact, even though I own several mech mods, most of my dripping is done on one of my regulated box mods. That way, if you discover dripping isn't for you, you still have the regulated box mod that you can use with other tanks. Not all tanks are safe to use on mech mods or unregulated box mods (personally I don't use any tanks on anything unregulated). Dripping can be a fun, relaxing, all around enjoyable experience, but like Tam said, safety first. There are a lot of good resources online about Ohm's Law, battery safety, coil building, wicking, etc. Check those resources and pay attention to them. You don't need to take a college course or major in electrical engineering to understand any of it, but paying attention to the information that is available can mean the difference between an enjoyable experience or becoming a statistic.
  2. Anybody able to install this update on a 64 bit Win7 machine? I keep getting an error when I try to install the driver. I can gain access to a 32 bit machine at work, but they freak out when I install software and all of my personally owned machines are 64 bit.
  3. I might be interested in this. I have one or two brand new RDA's that I won in raffles that I really have no interest in using.
  4. Alternatively it could be too much airflow. My personal experience when I first started vaping was that I was trying for too much too soon. I was subconsciously overcompensating and started trying direct lung hits right away. I gagged with almost every hit. It took some trial and error before I realized that. For me it wasn't the nic level, the PG level or the VG level. It was all about the airflow and the inhale technique. For me vaping is a very different sensation than smoking and by overcompensating, I was exposing myself to something I wasn't used to. I lowered my airflow a bit and switched to mouth to lung hits until I got used to it. Then I gradually increased my airflow and gradually went back to direct lung hits. That might be something else for your husband to take into consideration. I understand that just because it helped me get past the coughing doesn't mean it will help your husband, but it could be worth a shot.
  5. Okay, I understand. I think I was confused by the topic title and your original post. Even then, I don't have a single sweet spot. I have 5 different tanks in my rotation and 4 RDA's that I use regularly. On each of those I use different coils, different airflow settings and different wattage settings depending on the liquid I put in the tank or the liquid I'm dripping. For example, today I have been using my Lemo with a .7 ohm coil. For that particular liquid in that particular tank with that particular airflow and that particular coil, my sweet spot is 22.5 watts on a regulated device. But I have 20 other liquids in stored in my refrigerator that I use in my other tanks or RDA's and my sweet spot is different for every one of them. To answer the sweet spot for each of my liquids in each of my tanks or in each of my RDA's would take me days do compile the information. And honestly, I talk enough as it is.
  6. I'm offended that I didn't think of posting this offensive meme first.
  7. Try pairing it with a Guinness or a Newcastle or any other good stout or ale, Bebop. I swear that is an absolutely fantastic vape pairing - PBFB with a good quality stout or ale for the ultimate "dessert vaping" experience. Personal recommendation is to just order it at max VG without anything extra. Comp's blend is good to go as is.
  8. Welcome to VT Lateralus, Yes, there is a ton of great information in the thread Cany posted. Knowing other new members will possibly see this thread and want to know the same thing, I decided to go ahead and answer here, though. One huge benefit a TC device has over a variable wattage device is that TC devices will generally run in both temp control mode and in variable wattage mode. It's almost like getting two devices in one. That way, if you end up not liking temp control then you can still use that device for vaping. A variable wattage only device won't allow you to do that, though. At least not without a firmware upgrade to the chip in the device and I'm not sure if all chips can be upgraded.
  9. What you do essentially is the technical way of doing it. Finding the sweet spot is the technical part. The method you use, whether it is knowing a general wattage/voltage you want to set your device at to start based on the particular coil in your atty, ratio of PG to VG, particular flavor, etc. then adjusting up or down or simply doing it trial and error method are both technical methods for finding your sweet spot. As others have already alluded to, how you get to that "sweet spot" and where your "sweet spot" ends up being have nothing to do with whether you get a "sweet hit" on your tongue, per se...although for some a sweet hit on their tongue may be part of their personal "sweet spot". Finding the sweet spot is all about figuring out what settings you need to set your device at to deliver the most enjoyable experience based on the combination of everything involved. Like everything else with vaping, everybody is going to have a different sweet spot and everybody is going to have a different method of finding that sweet spot. Not only that, it is entirely possible for two people to vape the same liquid from the same bottle on the same device and have two completely different sweet spots for that particular liquid.
  10. There are a ton of quality vape shops in and around LA. Depending on where you are specifically, there area also a ton of quality shops in and around Orange County and the Inland Empire. You would likely notice a huge difference even with one of the gas station starter kits than what you get compared to a disposable cig-a-like. The draw on almost all cig-a-likes is very tight. I have no idea how the cig-a-like manufacturers measure the liquids they put in their products. I do know that a couple (maybe more) essentially state their products contain "approximately X amount of nicotine". In other words, if you get something that is supposed to be equal to 24mg nicotine, then it will be "approximately" that much. The Non-Big-Tobacco associated e-liquid manufacturers, i.e. all of them, take a lot of care in making their liquids. They precisely measure everything when making a batch of liquid. PG, VG, flavorings and nicotine. All of it is precisely measured to provide a consistent product every time.
  11. You did read it correctly and it is good news, at least in the interim. The funding bill was presented with the exemptions in place. The exemptions would exclude any product currently on the market and (I believe) any product introduced up through at least 2016. Democrats introduced an amendment to the bill that would have struck that language from the bill. That amendment is what was blocked. Essentially, the bill will move forward as written. Whether it passes officially or not is another question entirely, but since the FDA needs their money, I'm sure somebody somewhere will lobby to get the bill passed as written. Whatever ends up happening with the FDA, I do agree that some sort of regulation regarding e-liquid is concerned, but where devices are concerned, I don't see how they can regulate them. They aren't tobacco products. To me, regulating devices is tantamount to regulating lighters, matches, candles, torches or any other device that is capable of lighting a cigarette.
  12. I'm thinking perhaps I should have phrased my post differently. I was asking if you meant low PG or low VG. In one of your posts you referred to low PG, in another you referred to low VG. I was actually asking which you meant, low PG or low VG. I wholeheartedly agree about the "secrecy" of the liquids. Knowing the ratio can actually play a factor in whether or not I will buy a liquid. One of the things I would like the e-liquid industry to do is come together and agree on certain guidelines, including putting the PG/VG ratio on the bottles and the order in which they are listed. For the most part, I have seen PG listed first, but that isn't always the case. As far as finding out the ratio, if it's a local in-house liquid, I have never run into anybody that wasn't willing to tell me what the ratio was. As far as bigger companies, if they don't put the ratio on the bottle, then I can usually find it with a little research online.
  13. More good news? Am I the only one knocking on wood while refusing to count unhatched chickens? http://thehill.com/policy/finance/247214-gop-rejects-proposal-to-allow-fda-to-regulate-e-cigarettes
  14. Low PG or low VG? I've been scratching my head over this one. I haven't tried any watermelon vapes, but I do vape various fruit flavors. Sweeter fruit flavors...like apples, kiwi, pears, bananas or strawberries I tend to prefer with higher VG content, usually 80VG or higher, because the sweetness of the VG seems to enhance the flavor. Same with dessert vapes. I like higher VG. Citrus and tart berries like raspberries I tend to prefer closer to 50/50. A couple at 70VG/30PG, but only a couple. I know PG is the flavor carrier, but wouldn't the VG tend to engance sweetness rather than detract from it?
  15. Whew... I was beginning to think Bebop's problem really was iPad related. Looks like it was only "Giants fan" related
  16. Can you post a pic of the charger? One of us may be able to identify it and help further troubleshoot if we can see the specific charger.
  17. If it's any consolation, my theory with the Ti is "sort of" panning out. I still want to run the same tests with Ni200 though. Basically my theory has to do with the twisting of the wire. For example, the nickel in a 5 inch section of Ni200 after it has been twisted with kanthal should produce a higher ohm reading than a straight 5 inch piece of nickel because the twisted length actually has more than 5 inches due to the twisting. Hopefully that makes sense. If it doesn't then I 'm claiming I'm tired and on my way to being three sheets to the wind. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  18. The reason a kanthal/Ni200 build seems to mess up temp readings is because it actually does mess up the temp readings...basically the chip is fooled into a false reading. An explanation in a nutshell: We all know (or should if we're playing with our own coils) that electricity follows the path of the least resistance. In the case of a kanthal/Ni200 coil, the nickel is going to have the least resistance...but only for a certain amount of time. As the nickel heats up, the resistance ramps up. Eventually, the resistance in the nickel is going to match or exceed that of the kanthal, so the power from your battery is going to be diverted to the kanthal until the resistance of the nickel is lower than the kanthal again. The chip recognizes the fact nickel is present, which is why the TC will still basically work. But the presence of the kanthal sort of "throws it for a loop". I'm guessing your temps are actually higher than what your device is reading. That's because the kanthal is adding additional heat when it heats up, but the chip doesn't know how to process the information from the kanthal. This is a very basic explanation of what's going on, but hopefully it will shed some light on both why kanthal/nickel builds work and why it throws temp settings off. I haven't done a twisted kanthal/Ni build personally, but I think I have theory of what is going on. I want to do a couple of test builds before I post any specific information as to why the kanthal seems to raise the resistance of the nickel. I don't have any Ni200 on hand, but I do have some Ti wire. I should get similar results from the Ti. I'll try to get the test done tonight and share my findings. If I can't get to it tonight, then I will definitely get to it tomorrow afternoon.
  19. I know what you mean. I'm going mostly for the "freebies". I have a couple of friends who went last year and they ended up with more free liquid samples than they could use.
  20. Or make sure you vape with your off-hand and leave your gun hand free at all times.
  21. Here you go Tugboat, I got these directly from their website. They are larger versions of what they actually put on the bottles.
  22. As an extra note, I expected they would send me 5ml "tester" sizes. Nope...they sent full 30ml glass bottles.
  23. Go Phillies...only because I'm a Dodgers fan and I absolutely hate, hate, HATE the Giants.
