I ran the SS coils in the crown in watts mode..didn't hurt it at all.. My experience with claptons is somewhat limited..I think the are overrated for flavor, a PITA to wrap and require too high of wattages to vape well..(the vape is too hot for me)... right now I'm really liking 24g Nichrome..I think I'm done with claptons, lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

This may sound stupid but how does one melt an insulator? Short? I just know they can handle alot of heat, especially peek insulators.. Glad I never had one melt, even in RDAs... Lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

@cany I never had the RTA-2 apart.. I'm assuming the insulator is under the center block.. correct? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Because those claptons were too hot for me in the Griffin I never ran them in the RTA-2.. lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Oh wow.. I have that tank too but I don't think a spare insulator came with it.. bummer Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

@Cany Out of curiosity what tank was that the insulator melted? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk No worries about dual coils..If you can wrap a single coil and install it you won't have any problems with duals.. Just keep in mind resistance splits with duals..in other words say a single coil reads 0.6 ohms dual coils would read 0.3 ohms..other than that dual coils are easy-peasy..and double your vaping pleasure Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Hi again Whatever coil you wrap just make sure your cotton is installed like in the pic..No dry hits, No gurgling and No flooding or leaks..I pulled that clapton build because it required a lot of wattage to really hit well and was a little too hot for me. Now I have a simple 24g Nichrome build in it.. 9 wraps on a 3mn bit gives me 0.32 ohms for dual coils and been vaping great around 56w, I've vaped over 100ml of juice on this same build (24g) and the vape is still thick and flavorful.. Also try using a 3mm bit..its the best diameter I've found to work well..And I think 24g is the best size wire as I've tried both 26 and 22g...24g is just right for my simple builds with the Griffin ..keep us posted how it goes..[emoji4] Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Hi Edna This is my Griffin with a couple clapton coils..7 wraps of 24g x 30g kanthel on a 3mm bit.. (Another good build was 9 wraps of 24g Nichrome on the same 3mm bit) However the Griff can be tricky to wick with any coil.... That said make sure your cotton goes behind the little ring into the juice channel ..as you can see I like mine about halfway down..Also make sure none of your cotton wicks do not cover any part of the air flow ports in the deck..this can cause spitback and possible flooding ...as far as type of cotton goes I've had good luck with both organic and cotton bacon.. Once my wicks are installed I prime them thoroughly before screwing down the chimney..And like I do with all new builds I start with a few pulls without hitting the fire button, then start low and slowly bump the wattage up to find my desired sweet spot..(takes a few hits sometimes to get rid of that new cotton taste) Griffin is an awesome RTA when it's built correctly...feel free to PM me if you think I can help ..good luck! Seeing the OP was about clapton coils I thought Id post my try at it. This was 24g x 30g kanthel on a 3mm bit dual coil build in my Griffin 25 RTA...plenty of room on this velocity style deck made claptons easy to install and no dry hits thanks to the large juice channels..vapor production was great..these coils liked alot of wattage before they hit really good making the vape too hot for me..I don't wrap claptons anymore, and keep my builds simple..lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Your right..but I'm more of a cloud chaser..and more importantly to get a great nicotine hit to keep me tobacco free...I can't get that pulsing my atty with TC..straight wattage always produces a thicker vape, least it does for me..it's why I still enjoy my mechs too..but I agree, opinions vary, and that's OK by me.. I still vape my mechs..I've been vaping mechs way before these box mods came out..Learned ohms law and batt safety that comes in handy still today.. Although my high powered VW box mods have TC I don't need it.. Personally I think TC is overrated and used as a sales gimmick, (my opinion only) lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Yeah, I've got a good digital voltmeter for automotive use.. But it's impractical for vape coils..for that a use a accurate ohm meter and use a digital in line voltage meter for checking voltage drop between my mod and atty.. These has always helped me get the very best vape possible for my buck, lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
-
It's wise to buy a quality ohmmeter..I trust mine more than I do readings on my VW mods...I think I paid something like $30 for this one at my local B&M...Gotta be accurate to build for mechs..safety first.. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

Have you tried a parallel build yet? This is my favorite vapor/flavor build in a RDA I love vaping on my mech mods... It's a dual parallel 26g at around 0.3 ohms...It kicks butt and simple to wrap..also I use a dedicated ohm meter for all my builds..It's also a good platform to build my atty on This 0.32 build is dual 24g Nichrome ..Griffin 25 RTA.... That might work for you but I needed to learn for myself..After all, I'm the one vaping it..but that's just me I reckon, lol Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

A good knowledge of basic electronics and a thorough understanding of Ohm's law is a good place to start..then you'd understand how to use the Vape Tool calculator to help wrap those coils...takes all the guessing out of wrapping coils safely.. good luck Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk Oops? One of my favorite places is fishing offshore Baja CA... especially after the excitement of a wide open tuna bite, and trolling once again, like seen here.. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
