Looking to build my own box mod. I am not up on all of the what's what of the parts. Looking for recommendations on the chip, and the tank interface (510 adapter?). The only chip I know the name of is the DNA40 LOL. I have a friend that has a 3D printer, and he is willing to print me up a box if I design it, and I have access to SolidWorks and the ability to use it fairly well. I have the general shape in mind mimicking the VTR with the tank on the side low, powered by an 18650 or 2 if needed, but I can't finalize the design until I get all the parts. Basically I am looking to be able to run a sub-ohm tank, one of the ones with pre-built coils, I have enough hobbies, I don't need to get into winding my own. Not really interested in temp control, but if the chip can run it or not and has good specs and reviews I may just go with it. (Leaves an open reason to get a new tank down the road.) I like the Xvostick, but I can't justify the price. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

The VTR comes with one to use tanks that wont fit in the loop at the top. But it is almost 2in long.

It's defiantly not a quality issue, but for that price I could get a couple istick 50watts and an Atlantis, and find a way to cope with the fact I can't carry them as easily. A stop at the local B&M today pretty much set that in stone. The main thing I like about the xvostick is the tank sitting on the side low, ala the VTR. The added bonus that I can run a sub ohm tank is out weighed by the price, the Nautilus mini and the IC30s on the VTR are currently keeping me happy. That leaves cash free to build the missus some flower boxes in the yard to keep her happy, which makes me even happier.......

The more I think about these, the more I want one. But at $225, I will wait for a review from someone braver or with a bit more disposable income than I........

Luc v4 or the Nitcore UM20 are great chargers. I have both.

I didn't notice much difference between Denver and Home with the amount of vapor, but it was 65 or so in Denver when I was there. I did however notice the same issues with leaking described above, got a big wet spot on the pocket I had my VTR in. First time the Nautilus mini has leaked since I got it.

Caught part of a 3 hour show on the background of the ship last night. Pretty interesting.

I'm not a beer drinker, but......

My wife seems to have settled in at 9 watts with 50/50 juice 6mg, with a IC30s 1.8ohm on her istick 30. Hope this helps.

Just got my wife a Istick 30 from the local B&M. It seems to be awesome with the IC 30S. I would go for the 30 myself or possibly the 50, but I am hooked on the "compactness" of my VTR for a daily carry for me. I fits in my shirt pocket not sticking out. I like the lack of mass the istick has, but with the tank on top it's just too tall for me. I am almost scared to put the Nautlus mini on the istick to try because I think it will be better than the VTR, but I need the fit in my pocket. I am seriously contemplating the xostick (spelling wrong I am sure), but the $225 price has stopped me from ordering it.

When the indicator goes red on my VTR, the battery shows 3.5V, sometimes 3.4V when I take it out and put it in the LucV4 charger. I can tell the difference in the hit before I check the indicator running 1.6ohm coils at 8.5 watts. Haven't checked the batt with a meter before charging.

I'll have to compare, 475 feet here in Upstate NY, going to Denver next week for work.

Most of the snowbanks have gone, the dirt driveway has firmed up and the dust clouds behind the tractor trailers have settled down. One more good rain and I'll be pulling the old CBR out of the garage, That is unless the farmers start dragging the fields into the roads..........

When I used an IC30s on ego cell, I kept it in my front jeans pocket. Occasionally I would get some lint in the air holes. Not identical tanks, but similar enough maybe it could be an issue?

Probably won't be able to get out until May here. Still a lot of sand and salt on the roads, and it snowed all day here. My mother-in-law was singing "It's beginning to look like Christmas" while she was pulling the ham out of the oven....

There is an oring on the atomizer, a new one comes on each atomizer. At least every one I've bought does. Never had an issue with leaking in the 3 months I have had mine. I keep it in my shirt pocket on a VTR most of the time.

The 4 bay nitecore I got is the one with the 3 blinking lights, didn't really need it, but I got 2 micro deans connectors from the Hobby Shop for $2, and it took me 5 min to solder the deans on the leads for the battery. If I was going to buy the charger I would have gone for the digital. I use my USB car adapter that I got for my S5 to run the i2 in the work truck. It works on both the 1 amp and the 2.1 amp side, but I usually use the 2.1 side as I believe it says to use a 2 amp supply.

I have the Nitecore 2 bay digital in my work truck, and the Efest Luc V4 in the house. Both have given me no issues. Just traded one of the counter guys at the local B&M a micro deans and soldering it on the battery for his "god box" for the non digital nitecore 4 bay, haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I got a Mini a couple months ago. I use 50/50 juice about 30mL a week, the first coil lasted about a month, maybe a little less. The extra one that came with it lasted about 3 or 4 days. I keep it set around 8 watts, never over 10. Coils generally last me around 2 weeks on average.Towards the end of the life of the coil, I get exactly what the OP described. Sounds like shen is on the mark to me, time to clean it out and get a new coil.
-
I have used a couple of the new ones with the cotton. There is more flavor, but the life of the atomizer has cut in half. To be honest, I would sacrifice the added flavor for the longer life of the older atomizers. I go through about 30mL a week and the new ones seem to plug up in less than 2 weeks, was getting almost a month from the old ones before a change out.

A bit pricy for my tastes, but if memory serves it will hold a full size Nautilus, unlike the VTR,unless you cut off the ring. I like the recessed tank, it fits in my work shirt pocket and doesn't stick out.

You can't change volts and watts at the same time, only one or the other. I recommend reading "Electronics 101" in the general modding forum.

To my knowledge, I could be wrong, so far there aren't any laws except for State and County office buildings. Unless you are in NYC, there e-cigs have the same rules as analogs. That being said, I always ask if it's OK when I am at a bar, the vaping bone seems just as connected as the smoking bone is to the drinking bone. I generally don't vape in any public building, movie theaters, malls, restaurants etc. In fact one of the local malls has a rule of no tobacco or e-cigs on the premises, but I only go there if the wife and daughter drag me there any way.

I use my VTR with nautilus mini almost exclusively. It fits in my work shirt pocket can doesn't poke out to gt caught on equipment. I prefer the capacity of the iclear 30s. but the nautilus has way better flavor. Got a couple e-go batts for backup if all 4 of my 18650s are dead.

Single cell LiPos are much less prone to charging issues than 2S packs. The issue with 2S is that the cells don't always charge/discharge at the same rate. Hence the balance board pictured above. Generally, not always, a LiPo pack will burst when the user has tried to charge on a setting other than one meant for LiPo. LiPo chargers charge on a CC/CV method. LiPo chargers (like the one Will pictured) first charge at a constant amp rate, and when the charger senses that the battery pack has reached a set voltage (usually 4.2v/cell) the charger switches to a constant voltage charge, dropping the amp rate as the battery reaches a full charge. That is the basic description, I don't know exactly how the charger determines the full charge. A charger meant for NiMh or NiCd charges at a constant current (amp rate) until it sees a voltage drop of between .02 and .04 volts in the battery depending on the charger. When charging a LiPo this way the LiPo battery, single or mulit-cell does not produce the voltage drop, and the charger just continues to pump juice into the battery over charging it and causing a fire. The Balance Board between the charger and the LiPo sack allows the charger to monitor individual cells in a multi-cell pack. I've personally seen a LiPo fire. Long story short it was a 2S pack that had not been balance charged in many months, and wasn't balanced when it was being charged. Best guess of any one that was there was that it was so unbalanced one cell went up. Luckily it was in a sack, and it gave enough time to get a fire extinguisher. Another lesson there is don't think you can leave them unattended in a sack, all the sack does is give you time to get the fire extinguisher. The sack that particular battery was in was ashes in less than a minute. Not trying to scare anyone away from LiPos, just expressing the need for caution and safety. I am sitting 6 feet from 2 2S packs and 2 or 3 single cell LiPos as I type. I am not sure about the IMR cells (18650 etc) chemistry (is that the right word?) and their potential issues/quirks yet, but I am researching it. Sorry for the long post, but LiPo safety is a big deal at a R/C race when there are a hundred guys with 2 or 3 packs each in 1 building.
