ILuvHuskyDogs got a reaction from Mtdobies in Chantix Vs. E Cig!
I realize this is an old thread, but I'd like to add my 2 cents. I've tried cold turkey (four times -- I'm hard-headed), a stop-smoking class (that got me to the 0.1 mg/cig, but never got quit), the gum (raw throat), the patches (I actually quit for 9 months, but it didn't stick because of the habit ) two times, hypnosis (lit up on my way out), Zyban (does that really do anything?), the old e-cig with the nic-soaked paper (too strong), and, finally Chantix. I didn't have any weird psychological effects, although they've been documented well enough that I know they're real, but I did have really severe acid reflux. I was using Zantac AND Pepcid, plus Tums w/ no joy. On my quit day, the reflux was so bad, it threw me into a full-blown asthma attack. I put it aside, went back to smoking, and figured I should just stick a fork in myself, I was done.
I did report the reflux to the FDA, but I imagine it went into the electronic version of their circular file.
I still wasn't depressed. I kept telling myself that something was going to come along. Sure 'nuff, it did. I've cut my analogs by another 33%! Now, if I can just get rid of the water retention . . .

ILuvHuskyDogs got a reaction from Mtdobies in Haters gonna hate!
I've found in my many years of smoking that just being outside, in a corner, smoking an analog & not bothering anybody seems to make certain people feel they have the right to walk up to me and lecture about the evils/dangers of cigarette smoke. I just ask them politely to step away, lest they accidentally inhale some of my side stream. I suppose seeing someone vaping without even understanding what it is would make these people feel they have the same right.
In terms of what the FDA is doing, I figure they see a growing market and want the power to regulate and tax the heck out of it. It'll be a real fight to try to stop them.

ILuvHuskyDogs got a reaction from Mtdobies in where do I go from here?.
I found a little more VG was more satisfying. It feels more like smoking my analogs, and anything that can make that happen has gotta help us Noobs trying to quit.

I was wandering around the forum, and just looked at the time. I have to put something together for dinner!
Talk about distracted vaping! Whew!

I'm sorry, TX, that last post was REALLY snarky. Can we just start again and chalk it up to withdrawal?

ILuvHuskyDogs got a reaction from Mtdobies in I'm finally getting close to the nic level I need
I've been trolling around the web trying to find a vendor who sells very low nicotine solutions, like the 1mg/ml suggested above.
No joy, here. Can anyone give me a recommendation? The lowest I see anywhere is 6.
Absolutely, Mtdobies, I was an incredible idjit to do that with no gloves, and I should have known better. I'm not sure I totally trust the latex. I'm picking up some chemically resistant gloves before I do any more mixing. I'd probably wear eye protection also, if I didn't already need my eyeglasses to see what I'm doing. They don't have side shields, but they should do the job.

ILuvHuskyDogs got a reaction from Mtdobies in Vaping just for the flavor
I worry about the same thing, but I really don't have any choice. I did find a study where rats were kept in a constant mist of PG for quite a long time. They then checked lung tissue, liver, etc. and couldn't find anything seriously wrong. Of course, we're not rats, and we live a lot longer. So, the jury's still out. If we're all still here and happy in 20 years or so, I'd be willing to weigh in with an opinion.
Still, if you don't smoke, maybe better not to take the risk.

ILuvHuskyDogs got a reaction from Mtdobies in Nicotine Poisening
I thought I'd add to this post, in case anyone is still following.
I'm really sensitive to nic, since I've been smoking 0.1 mg/cig analogs for many years. I just started vaping a few days ago, at a 6mg/ml dose. WAY too much. Fortunately, I've had nicotine overdoses in the past, when I've had to buy a higher dose cigarette and then forgot and smoked as usual.
The first symptom I always get is a skull-splitting headache and rapid pulse. Then the nausea, blurred vision, and lightheadedness set in if I don't stop.
Dumb me kept vaping, and I ended up having to Vape 0 nic for half a day to clear it all out. The half life for nic is about 2 hrs; so every 2 hours you clear another 50% or so out of your blood as long as you don't add anymore.
What I had was an overdose. Sounds like you darned near killed yourself. It doesn't surprise me that the Drs. didn't catch it. Cigarette smokers rarely overdose, and Medicine probably hasn't caught up with vaping, yet.
It's a good cautionary tale for us new Vapers.
