I guess you've found some Simpsons people, here, lol. Welcome to VT, the home of the Simpsons.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'd like to add my 2 cents. I've tried cold turkey (four times -- I'm hard-headed), a stop-smoking class (that got me to the 0.1 mg/cig, but never got quit), the gum (raw throat), the patches (I actually quit for 9 months, but it didn't stick because of the habit ) two times, hypnosis (lit up on my way out), Zyban (does that really do anything?), the old e-cig with the nic-soaked paper (too strong), and, finally Chantix. I didn't have any weird psychological effects, although they've been documented well enough that I know they're real, but I did have really severe acid reflux. I was using Zantac AND Pepcid, plus Tums w/ no joy. On my quit day, the reflux was so bad, it threw me into a full-blown asthma attack. I put it aside, went back to smoking, and figured I should just stick a fork in myself, I was done. I did report the reflux to the FDA, but I imagine it went into the electronic version of their circular file. I still wasn't depressed. I kept telling myself that something was going to come along. Sure 'nuff, it did. I've cut my analogs by another 33%! Now, if I can just get rid of the water retention . . .

Oh, he also told me to get my butt off the couch and get more exercise. He thinks that'll help a lot. As soon as the darned ragweed let's me, I'll take his advice.

Actually, I did talk to my cardiologist about it. I wasn't really concerned, but I figured I'd better bring it to his attention. He's mystified as well but agrees that it probably has to do w/ the PG and/or VG. When he found out that I was cutting the # of cigarettes I smoke by vaping 0 nic, he was all for it. He's not so much for my greatly increasing my water intake and would rather I just react to any signs of dehydration. I'd like to go to 100% vaping, but I'll just have to work my way to it. It doesn't seem as bad as it was before, so maybe my system is getting used to it. I have his blessing, so I'm gonna keep on truckin'.

I've had congestive heart failure a few times, been hospitalized on restricted fluids and basically turned into a prune. I'm not seeing any signs of dehydration (no tenting, dark urine & such). I try to drink enough to avoid dry mouth, but my cardiologist is sitting on my shoulder shouting repeatedly into my ear, "Watch your salt and fluid intake," so it's hard for me to trust the process and just drink more water. The only weird symptom is that water piling up in my feet/lower ankles. I'll give it a shot, overcome my fear, and try to drink more water. Patricia, wish I could help. Have you talked to your doctor?

This seems like a good place to ask this. I've been vaping for almost a month, now, with the goal of quitting the stinkies. I have a not-so-good heart, and I've noticed that I seem to need a diuretic (water pill) a lot more often, now. I'm also putting on the water in my feet/lower ankles, which is unusual for me. It may not be the vaping at all, but I noticed that when I vape a lot, it seems to be worse. I was wondering if there's anyone else out there who's heart-challenged and has run into this. Should I try high PG/VG? Increase my VG content? Is it something else that my system will get used to? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My great idea: Working Brain Boost Juice or Smart Juice :)

Thanks, Tam, but it's more of a rant than a question, lol. I'll post there. (my furry butt now running away from this thread, tail tucked) -

I was about to ask a dumb Noob question, but I don't want to face the wrath of Jeff. -
My sister also survived a heart attack in her 40's, so, congrats on that, alone. More congrats on stopping the stinkies. Back in those days, all nicotine stop-smoking aides were Rx-only on this side of the pond. Her doctor wanted her to quit, but, after she tried & tried & was unable, he wrote a scrip for gum. Shortly after, the gum and patches went OTC. She never quite quit the nicotine, but she stopped smoking, and was much better off for it. I'd say, try talking to your doctor. He might be more on-board than you'd think. You can always work toward reducing your nicotine level.

I've found in my many years of smoking that just being outside, in a corner, smoking an analog & not bothering anybody seems to make certain people feel they have the right to walk up to me and lecture about the evils/dangers of cigarette smoke. I just ask them politely to step away, lest they accidentally inhale some of my side stream. I suppose seeing someone vaping without even understanding what it is would make these people feel they have the same right. In terms of what the FDA is doing, I figure they see a growing market and want the power to regulate and tax the heck out of it. It'll be a real fight to try to stop them.

Right now, I'm just trying to quit the sticks, so I'm pretty well stuck on Menthol. But, Black Cherry and chocolate go so well together . . . Wow! I might try that. Hope it doesn't taste like dirt.

One of the possible pathways for glycerol metabolism is into glucose -- it seems to be a minor one, but it is there. We do get so little of it vaping. How long have you been vaping? Are there any other changes to your diet, like taking on more carbs? The reason I ask is, many of us new Vapers are trying to quit smoking. Analog withdrawal, even getting nicotine from something else, can make us crave carbs. Since you're Type I, I imagine you've had it for awhile and are used to watching your diet, but, gotta ask, anyway. It'll be interesting to see what you find out. Please keep us posted.

LOL, now THAT is a meaty post. Give me, say, the rest of my life, and I'll have it solved in closed form for Helium.

I found a little more VG was more satisfying. It feels more like smoking my analogs, and anything that can make that happen has gotta help us Noobs trying to quit.
-
I've actually seen/heard/read?, don't remember how, of this some years ago, so you're not alone. Considering what's in printed newspaper, I can see why you'd like to quit. If you think vaping will give your hands something to do and take your mind off it, who am I to tell you not to try. In terms of a flavor, I can't be of any help. Sorry, wish I could.

Have two Kangers. So far -- it's only been a whole week and a half -- I'm pleased. But that's just two tanks, and one is 0 nic for mindless vaping. After all, I'm a mindless smoker. I used to look up, and there would be another one in my fingers with no memory of even lighting it. I think I'm going to add a few more tanks just to try other flavors. I'm stuck on Menthol, because that's what I smoke. Gives me more time to read up on gear, which I know absolutely nothing about. I did try adding a few drops of VG to the tank yesterday. Much better vapor, but my Noob sore throat got worse. Maybe I just vaped more of it. I haven't seen anyone with VG problems, it always seems to be PG. so, I like the vapor, and I'm sticking with it. You might try VG, too, for a little change in vapor.

Welcome to VT! I'm new here also. No need to rush, if you're getting the nicotine you need and you like the level of vapor you're getting. I've spent a lot of time -- probably too much, I'm getting behind in stuff around here -- browsing around and asking a bunch of Noob questions. You could spice things up a bit by trying other flavors of juice; there are a lot out there. If you'd like more vapor, you could try adding a few drops of Pharma Grade glycerin to your tank. Once you get an idea of what you'd like to change in your setup, you'll find tons of help from the people here.

I was wandering around the forum, and just looked at the time. I have to put something together for dinner! Talk about distracted vaping! Whew!

I found a source right away on-line, but it's a way-high nicotine level. Higher than we're supposed to discuss in this forum. You'd have to work on it to get it to a manageable dose, and my heart would be in my throat the whole time. Hope it comes with handling instructions and lots of hazard labels. Please learn, first, then do.

I have to agree with Bebop. What you're considering can be dangerous. Especially if you're using a strong nicotine base and not following an appropriate safety regime. It goes right through the skin. Talk to some DIY people. Once they feel you're ready to go, I'm sure someone can recommend a source.
-
That might be a really good post for the juice forum. I'm sure the folks there have good recipes and tips on technique --safety precautions, measuring techniques and the like. My focus has been on lowering nicotine level, so mixing juice is way out of my skill set.
-
Actually, I take that back. Tired Brain Syndrome. If you mix 6 with 6, you'll get 6. I guess my question is, unless you want to dilute the flavor a bit, should you even bother? Maybe keep trying juices until you find that "just right" flavor.
