So you better understand this I will need to first explain ohms law.
ohm is the measure of resistance from a material to electrical conductivity. The higher the ohms = higher the resistance. more resistance = less flow of electrons.
the ohms law equation can be done 3 ways: V= IR, I = V/R, R = V/I. Most commonly we will use I = V/R for vaping because we usually already know the values of V and R. (V= voltage or pressure, R = ohms or resistance, and I = amperage or current.)
So for your average replaceable tank we will say it has a 1.8ohm coil in it.
Now we will assume you decide to use it on a mech mod which has zero regulations on it. whatever the battery is charged at is what is going to that coil when you fire it, so assuming we have a fully charged battery (4.1-4.2v) this is the amperage we would be pulling from the battery: 4.2V / 1.8R = 2.33I
which also translates to 9.8watts of power.
now lets look at my current sub ohm build:
4.2V / 0.5R = 8.4I (35.28watts)
notice the amperage and wattage difference just by changing the coil?
This becomes very important because batteries have an amperage rating that should not be exceeded, and it is important to know what that rating is, and what you will be demanding from it.
In my case for example I know that my batteries are rated for 10Ampers (10I) of continuous use, or 15Ampers (15I) of short pulsed useage. If I were to draw more than 10A continuously I can risk the battery exploding because it would become hot very quickly and drain faster than it was made to drain...
think of a wrench falling between the posts of the battery in your car...very bad...sparks and rapid heat and explosions may occour...
so if I were to run anything lower than 0.42ohms from my batteries, I could risk my battery overheating and exploding in my mech mod when my battery is fully charged... more realistically 0.41R would be the limit for my batteries as my chargers both stop at 4.1V.
Now the fancier and safer VTC5 batteries from sony can handle 30A continuous load (30I) so that means they can handle firing a coil with 0.14Ohm resistance max. beyond that gets dangerous for them and probably ridiculously hot for the user...
if/when you decide to use a sub ohm setup, download the ohms law calculator on your smart phone and be sure the coil you use will stay within your batteries limits.
As for the reason people like to use sub-ohm setups: more flavor and more vapor as the wire is generally thicker which has less resistance so we can make a coil with more surface area on the wick and with that less resistance it gets more power to get hot faster thus vaporizing more juice in less time which gives us the bennefits of the flavor and vapor.
the higher the number of ohms, the slower it fires, and generally produces less vapor and less flavor.

Congrats!
I'm at 10 months now myself. Seems like smoking was a lifetime ago now lol 12 years of smoking ended for me on april 9th 2014.
I tried vaping several times before that but it was hit and miss due to cheap poor quality chinesium equipment. When I finally got a decent device working properly, that is when I put down the analogs and haven't looked back!

It did alright, but I didn't clean the tank as well as I thought it did and it still had a machine oil taste to it, so I dumped the tank, gave it a nice long alcohol bath rinsed it out, and rebuilt it with 28g just cause I felt like it lol.
so now it is down to ~0.43ohms putting me right at the limit of two of my 3 batteries (3rd is a vtc5)
no real point in posting another picture as the build looks pretty much identical other than the wire being slightly thicker. But that 28g dual build really chooches out some vapor and flavor! nice thick billowing clouds so smooth and tasty. very flavorful.
I have contemplated going back to a single coil 26g build though as the batteries last longer and vapor comes in faster for longer on the battery. getting below 0.5ohms is great for clouds but in a dual setup takes a bit longer to heat the coils vs single coil setups (in my experience anyway) and I like rapid fire builds. all about that instant gratification

Got my 60 count Koh Gen Do organic Japanese cotton last week. It puts the organic cotton balls to shame, there's no comparison to performance and flavor.
Just sayin'.

kayfun V4 clone all the way.
great for newbs to advanced. Love the fact that you don't need to drain the tank anymore to access the build deck incase you need to rewick, adjust, or just feel like making a new build...
here is what it looks like when you access the build deck with a full tank. (upper section/tank is on the left, build deck is on the right)
and the tank sitting on my magneto mech mod:
adjustable airflow, adjustable juiceflow, top fill, dual coil ready, handle whatever setup you feel like building.
the setup in the first picture is a simple single wick-dual coil build using 32g wire. 5.5 or 6 wraps each... (1.6ohm by themselves, or 0.8ohm as a pair)

Mr Smith got a reaction from GeorgeF in Kayfun V4
V4 looks to solve all problems the previous generations had. No more whistle, no more draining the tank to rebuild, dual coil ready, pyrex glass center section, juice flow control, adjustable airflow, adjustable 510 pin not holding the deck down anymore, changeable connection, and clones are available already for $30 from tobeco! Soooo getting one! Love my kfl+ but my biggest complaints about it are both fixed in v4...those being whistle, and need to drain to access build deck...
Oh another new feature: top filling! Shut off juice flow and open up the top to fill...threads are recessed on 2 sides to prevent pressure build until the last thread. Once top is back on, twist the bottom to open up juice flow again.
Pbusardo has already done an excellent review on this tank.

Mr Smith reacted to Starre LaBell in Who has an Atlantis and actually likes it?
I really appreciate your review, thank you. This sounds perfect for me; I can't wait to get one. I alternate between an Aerotank V2, and a Mini Aerotank. I bought a simple Mod called an Innokin Cool Fire 1 that takes the same size batteries with the extender I bought. It's rated at 8.5W, but it can't be adjusted. I've enjoyed it; it was good for a new vaper, but it's time to try something new. (I think I'll always use my Spinner 2 for travel.) I can tell you know what you're talking about, and now I feel good about saving up for the Atlantis:) -
Mr Smith got a reaction from Starre LaBell in Who has an Atlantis and actually likes it?
it's called the Aspire "CF Mod"
It's basically a hybrid mod that is a cross between a mech mod and a ego battery... it turns on and off like an EGO, and has short protection and low voltage protection, but other than that: it works like a mech mod in the fact it fires sub ohm, and gives straight battery power from an 18650 battery.
They also have the "CF Sub" which is for the most part the same thing, but the battery is not removeable and takes a special charger...not ideal in my book because when the battery needs a recharge, the mod is useless until it is charged and you are without a battery for 4hrs vs the CF mod you just have more than one 18650 battery, and swap the battery out of the tube to a fresh battery and throw the other on the charger and you are back in business in a few seconds.
The coils do seem to last a while. She has been using the same coil since christmas eve, and hasn't had any issues with it.
Usually when her tanks stop performing as well or get a funky taste, she will let them soak in alcohol for a couple hours and rinse them off and air dry them on the counter, put them back together and continue using them. She has gotten a good month + out of her nautilus coils by doing this.
Coils usually last quite a while, just wicks end up getting gummed up by the juise residue and need cleaned. silica wicks that these things typically run do not get burned and are burn resistant vs cotton wicks in rebuildable tanks (like my kayfun) burn easily and need changed out regularly to maintain performance and flavor.
Unless you get a bad coil or are having leaking problems, coils usually last quite a while.
the atlantis comes with a spare coil and a spare pyrex glass section of the tank as well.

Mr Smith got a reaction from fishguy1123 in Little or no taste when vaping
rubbing alcohol or everclear. everclear would probably work better as it has a very high alcohol content and no flavor.
the idea is to soak the coil and tank in alcohol for a couple hours which will help break up and remove juice residue buildup on the wicks and coils and gets rid of any lingering bad flavors that might have contaminated your tank/wick. then remove the tank and coils from the alcohol and rinse under warm water and let them air dry on the counter.
once dry, reassemble juice it up and give it a try. If the coil is still good, it should perform and taste like new again.

Bought the gf one for Christmas with the aspire battery tube that takes 18650 batteries. She loves it. She was also shocked at how light it was compared to her nautilus and vamo. Now she's hooked on sub ohm and mech mods lol.

Mr Smith got a reaction from spydre in Little or no taste when vaping
Vapers tongue perhaps? Try s different flavor before you blame the tank. Soak the coil pack in alcohol a few hours and then rinse and dry it, then put a different flavor in it and give it a try...if it works...vapors tongue...if not:replace the coil.

Mr Smith got a reaction from eciga in Can the vape really replace cigarettes to reduce harm to the body
there may be only 4 ingredients in juice, but when burnt it can still release carcinogens depending on brand of juice, and device/power level/how well the device wicks.
many variables...needless to say: if you are getting a burnt taste, you care getting carcinogens...

Mr Smith got a reaction from T-Bone in Thinking Of A Different Battery
If you don't mind a tube: vamo v5's are great vv/vw mods.
Had my vamo quite a while now and it has been very reliable and durable.
great for firing 1.2ohm + tanks. puts out up to 15w and will run off a single 18650, dual 18350's or a single 18350.
I have two vamo's, and a vision spinner II that are all but retired now as I primarily vape from a kayfun lite plus running a single 26g 0.5ohm coil.
So I bought a new variable mod the e-holly 35w. (under $50 shipped) that can fire down to 0.5ohm and push out 35w of power.
Finally, my goto setup is my smok magneto mech mod with the KFL+
I find the mech mod to be more pocket friendly, looks like it was made for the tank with how well it fits together with the KFL+ and how well it matches it. No accidental firing with the lock ring down. great mod that takes both button top and flat top batteries, and both 18650 and 18350 as it telecsopes.
Only downside is it does not have ego threads, but I would never put an ego tank on there anyways. nor do I have any desire to use an ego tank or any other replaceable coil tank for that matter... actually gave my GF the nautilus I had. she loves it, but I found myself no longer using it after I got the kayfun.
-
Mr Smith got a reaction from T-Bone in Is there anything better...
yessss. freshly charged battery in the mech mod, nice japanese cotton in the kayfun, 0.5ohm 26g single coil build with a mix of 90% miss white (aplha) and 5% strawberry 5% kiwi mix
and now I need to go have a vape!

Mr Smith got a reaction from T-Bone in Does Anyone Use The Vapor Spinner?
havent used mine in a long time, but I have a spinner II
used to use it with my ET-S tanks and run at about 3.8v most of the time @ 1.8ohms.

Mr Smith got a reaction from igotit in like or hate and why?
Everybody has to have an opinion on this...So tell us if you like it, hate it, not sure/don't care, and why?
Aspire has recently released its newest clearomizer tank to its line up and it is a game changer...
The tank is called the Aspire Atlantis.
This is the first replaceable coil tank to come SUB-OHMED!
That's right a replaceable coil clearomizer tank that comes with 0.5ohm coils, and adjustable airflow that opens up quite a bit for massive airflow for big lung hits.
They have also introduced a new sealed non adjustable battery for this tank that charges off a usb charger but works like a mech mod. no adjustments.
IMO: not a very noob friendly tank as I didn't see any battery warnings or campatibility warnings.
Also this tank gives the lazy noobs the ability to blow some huge clouds and keep up with the sub-ohmed rebuildable tanks and drippers.
I'll leave it at that: what do you guys think?

Mr Smith got a reaction from DJ Colonel Corn in 3 Post New Member Restriction - NEW MEMBERS PLEASE READ
Anywho: still need more posts...
I'm new here obviously, however not so new to vaping.
Tried it years ago back before there were any standards and getting replacement cartridges or atomizers was next to impossible... and now adays we have standards! finally! replacement parts are dime a dozen, tanks and tanks and flavors oh my! love it!
So got back into it like a year ago, got a starter kit (mistake) it leaked all over and sucked...
year later tried again and got an aspire bdc, also leaked, changed coil...still leaked, changed coils one more time and no leak! yay! so that finally got me off cigs and my collection has been growing ever since.
more recently got into RBA's and I'm hooked on them! I don't even really want to use any of my other tanks anymore...
Just gave my GF my old iclear 30s and spare coil for it... Almost never use my pair of aspire BDC tanks anymore... and rarely use my iclear x.i tanks either. aspire nautilus I still use as it kicks some good flavors, but the KFL+ = yum
That coil builds thread is giving me all kinds of new ideas which might not be such a good thing... GF already says I'm obsessed cause I go to one of the 3 local vape shops like once a week lol.

Mr Smith got a reaction from Raptor Vaper in Kayfun lite v2 stuck twice
Just an update: the airflow screw finally drove me bonkers enough and I went through with my idea.
It worked out just how I thought it would! Screw is nice and snug now. no more backing itself out or being loose and sloppy.
I only flattened one of the threads on the end of the screw, so it still starts in the hole nice and easy then once it gets in all the way it becomes more resistant to turning but not so resistant that you are forcing it.
Highly recommend this as all you need is a pair of pliars to flatten a thread on the screw by squeezing one of the end threads with the pliars.
