  1. I'm with you Chris! I am definitely not gonna fault a guy for that. It seems like every time I get a major urge, I am alone. I would have to go buy a pack, and a lighter. I think that added bit of work really helps keep me from doing it. I luckily have never had the urge when I am around friends who smoke. I think when I am around them, I don't want to smoke in front of them because they all know of my commitment!
  2. That is another thing that I didn't take into account. Sparc said it in his reply. The tube connections (in a multi-tube setup) would definitely be a place it could have a problem. I assume that if you got it tight enough, with no lubrication, to keep it from causing a voltage drop, you may never get it back apart. I am talking about all of this voltage drop, and material conductivity and i am sure someone has already done the research If I would just go find it!
  3. I got into ohms law and electronics during the first round of the "thump" car audio competitions. I also worked as an electrician's helper during high school. I am a major tinkerer. I am really interested in finding out what (if any) effect the mod material has on the output. Most materials we use have good electrical properties and are pretty large pathways for the current. I would tend to believe that most resistance would be in the connection to the mod and the switches. Of course I have not tested this in any way. I am just going by the amount of metal in the mod body compared to the amount in the top pin or switch. Very unscientific!
  4. Learning to plate looks like a cool hobby! I probably don't need another one. I guess I need to get an inline volt meter. The voltage drop that is experienced is fascinating to me. Due to my very limited mechanical mod experience I can't make too educated of a guess. It seems to me the large diameter of the center pins and large path through the body of the mod that these would be less likely to cause the problem unless extremely dirty or corroded at the connections. That would lead me to the switch. I can see where that they could easily cause a problem. It all depends on how it is made. On the one I have, if I would have just dropped the battery in a gone to town it wouldn't have worked great. The small machine screw that contacts the battery would have only touched in a near microscopic spot. All of the current would then had to traveled through a small spring (28 gauge or so) to complete the circuit. Now the nut and machine screw are trimmed and flush so that they contact the bottom of the locking ring and the battery at the same time. It took quite a bit of adjusting, measuring and filing. I doubt many people want to sit and tinker with it for a few hours. Like I said it is a $15 clone. It is the only mechanical switch I have messed with. So this information may not be helpful to anyone but me, but then agin it might!
  5. I cheat on the math, I use online calculators. I love math but hate doing it by hand. If I have to use formulas more than a few times I build a spreadsheet. My mod isn't the highest quality. What can you expect for $15? I mainly bought it to see if this is something I enjoy (mechanical mods). In their defense, they are so simple there is very little to go wrong. I think if I enjoy this I will get one of the less expensive "authintics" such as the MM Nano or GP Paps. As for the shocks, I am stumped. In order to get shocked I would assume that you would have to be completing a circuit with your hand. We are not nearly as good of conductors as the materials our mods are made of. It is really strange! Sorry I can't help more!
  6. That is interesting. It really does make a big difference! I would have never thought that it would until I did the calculations. SS Nemesis - 3.55v .3ohms = 11.83 amps/42 watts Copper Manhattan - 3.75v .3ohms = 12.5 amps/46.875 watts I am not sure how much difference that this would have in the amount of vapor, since I don't have much experience with mechanical mods. I am not sure how the switches and the top caps make connection to the battery or the atomizer, but this could make a difference. My example is the cheap mod I just bought. It has a spring loaded switch that is adjustable. Looking at its design the only path of electricity is a very small spring that i am positive would cause quite a bit of voltage drop. I got my tools out and modified it so that the button itself (not the spring) will carry the current. It also had a rather poor designed top cap adjustment screw that was too short to safely use with the Sony flat top batteries so I replaced it. Now if my battery charger would show up I would try it out!
  7. Daily: Full size Nautilus on top of the MVP (I have gone back to the BDC coils) Backup: Mini Nautilus on VV
  8. I am pretty sure that if vaping would have been around in 1986, I would have done it. When I started smoking analogs at 16, I had bought my first real muscle car, discovered I liked chasing the girls, and alcohol and the occasional illegal drug made it much more fun. On second though, i definitely would have done it! Now, I can't afford a muscle car. I am too tired to chase the girls...what would I do if I caught one? If I drink more that 4 drinks or stay up past midnight the next day is terrible. Illegal drugs?...not a chance, too much to loose. I really doubt I would do it.
  9. christov11- I am having the same trouble with my coils. It seems like if i give it enough pressure to get them tight, I overlap them. I am hoping practice makes perfect! I only have 100 feet of this size. My ohm meter seems to work pretty good, but I have the same problem, but there seems to be a sweet spot where it matches my DVOM so i think it is close enough. I also noticed that if I over tighten the screws i cut the wire. I finally got my mod, batteries...but no charger. Dang FedEx.
  10. I am totally with you Richstag. I did the cig-a-likes on and off for at least a year. I smoked and vaped for at least a month with the twists and iclears. I now use the small atomizers, tanks, and just started the RDA's. I have not been off analogs that long. I still have my moments from time to time when job, or family stress pushes me right up to the edge of smoking again. I have been able, up to this point, been able to stop myself and hit the nautilus for a few long chain vapes with 24 and it has passed. I still buy mainly 24mg juice. I have been telling myself I won't start stepping down my nicotine until I get at least 3-4 months under my belt. At this point and time, I am going through 90ml every 2 weeks of my main juice. I figure if I start making it longer than 2 weeks and have less analog urges, I will be ready to step down. I really don't have a lot of willpower, so I don't want to make too many sudden changes. I have a neice who has stopped smoking, started vaping, and now has quit vaping in the amount of time that I have been off of analogs and she said she is doing great. I know it is possible for some people. I just think I am not one of the lucky ones. You and I both quit at about the same time, and it sounds like you are doing much better than I am! Keep up the good work!
  11. I do have extra juice and bottles. I just don't have any VG. Dropping the nicotine shouldn't be a problem either, it is kinda making my head spin. Which I really don't understand. I have days where the 24 seems too weak in my tanks, but it is kicking my a$$ in the RDA. I will have to test. I do like the idea of trying some creamier juices. Thanks for the help Mtdobies!
  12. I am back up to 1.4 ohms until my Mechanical Mod arrives. I guess I could just buy some VG and cut it a bit. Nearly all of my juice is 24mg so I could easily cut it a bit. Would this work ok?
  13. Most is 60PG/40VG or 50/50. Nearly all of what I have is fruit or fruit drink flavors. I think I may need a new flavor profile.
  14. Thanks! Mike, you're correct. That is exactly why I built a .9. I made a few 1.4 - 1.5's and they took a while to heat up. I did the math and according to everything I could find, .9 would be exactly at the upper limits of the device (if it would fire at all). Dasfriek, I ordered a couple of VTC4's and an Nitecore i4. I'm enjoying it. I still primarily like the tanks, but I think it is just because I don't care for my normal juice in the dripper. My juice has a great flavor in the Nautilus, it is just too intense in the TOBH. Is this unusual?
  15. I said I would wait until I got a mod, but couldn't wait. I got my Kanthal in today. 26, 28, 30, and 32 ga. I don't have a mechanical yet so I wrapped a .9 ohm single coil on my TOBH and wicked it with organic cotton. 7 wraps of 26ga on 2.8mm. At 11 watts on my MVP it is amazing. It doesn't put out clouds, but flavor is too good. I never dreamed that my juice would taste so powerful that it is nearly off putting. I know that is a stupid complaint...too much flavor, but that is the truth. I don't have any low nicotine juice, so I am using my 24mg stuff. It is a little strong but it works. I now see what all the fuss is about! OOPS! I meant RDA in the Topic.
  16. Thanks Spyke_696! I have really about decided to slow down. I have started purchasing some small bottles of single flavored juice and using it in a dripper to try to figure out what components of the flavors that I like. I am still having a bit of trouble with my taste buds and don't want to waste a lot of money and juice until I get my taste back. A funny side note. I have been using this same blend for about 3 months and I am now tasting a black pepper taste in it. I know it has to be my messed up taste buds, because it is all fruity and tropical!
  17. Tameiki, I do. I need to do that. I have never been able to make Kanger products work for me, so they just sit in the bottom of a box. I guess I need to buy a spool of Kanthal and see what I can do! That's a good idea.
  18. I have all of my daily stuff. (Tanks, backups, etc.) I think now the rest is want stuff....lol None of the stuff I want is necessary to keep me from going back to smoking. I want to start building my own coils, and making a little juice. Most of that $200 has to do with that. I guess what I am saying is that I have the all the stuff necessary for the smoking cessation program, now I am ready for the hobby end of things! Wanting: Mechanical mod Batteries/Charger Kanthal DIY Liquid supplies I have gathered things in a weird way. I have all the tools and safety equipment just sitting here. I just don't have anything to use in them yet! After reading everything I could find, I started with ohm meters, coil building tools, gloves, graduated cylinders, and beakers. I think it makes it twice as hard knowing that all that stuff is here and I don't have anything to do with them!
  19. Not spending has been nearly as hard as dropping the analogs. I think if I would spend another $200 or so I would have enough hardware that I would be fairly satisfied for a while. I could then focus of finding different liquids.
  20. subnuclear- I have been really tempted. I have a huge wish list, I just have not bought anything! I am trying, not very successfully, to keep my vape spending less than what I would have spent on analogs. It has really tested my will power. There is so much stuff I want to try! I am glad to get an endorsement for them, It will make it easier to pull the trigger when it is time!
  21. I never think to look there! I have always been so scared of low quality parts, i just avoid it. I read so much about people having good luck with them, but some don't. I really don't have the money to make too many mistakes!
  22. It is a strange plastic, it looks very sturdy. I am not sure what it is. The guy at the shop told me it was indestructible. I found some on ebay for about half price, but I am thinking I should just buy another complete Nautilus. I closed my paypal account after I apparently bought a camera and had it shipped to someone else in the North East, a far cry from Texas. (It took months to get the $600 back in my account)
  23. I saw these in the local B&M yesturday. They were $36.00 each. I really would like one, and I like the way they look, but I am hesitant to spend more on a replacement tank than I can buy a whole new assembly. http://wyckedvapor.com/product/aspire-nautilus-replacement-tank-v3-by-acexus/
  24. I noticed that, I should have mentioned it. It was the only kick I could find with a decent description.
