Kangertech Protank keeps dry vaping
Earthling789 replied to endlesstempo's topic in Troubleshooting & Technical Issues
Jason, you brought up a good point on Kanger tanks... their coils don't do well at very high Wattage or Voltage. The sweet-spot I've found is 3.6-3.9V and no more than 10W. Anything higher, and you tend to fry the wicks (causing leakage or flooding) or char the coils (causing bad tastes). On my variable Wattage device I use 7.5-9.5 W, depending on the juices I'm using. For a 3.7V eGo, I'm using 1.5 Ohm coils, which draw 9W or 1.8 Ohm coils which draw 7.5W (again, based on the juice). I've tried to push some juices up to 11W (or higher, using a friend's Vamo), and the juices taste bad, and the Kanger coils tend to crap-out fast! -
26650 batteries and safety
Earthling789 replied to hookahhighness's topic in General Vaping Discussion
26650 batteries don't have the availability and manufacturers (yet) that 18650's currently have, so that is why I suggested the "sleeve" if you want to use a Sony battery. IIRC, Sony does not manufacture a 26650. One would expect the larger 26650 battery to be capable of larger mAh and more Amps, but just like the 18650's we have today... some are 1100mAh, some are 2100mAh, some are 3400mAh, etc.... some can only discharge 4A, some at 10A, and some can reach 30A (or higher)... so just because it's bigger will not necessarily mean it will be better, or capable of long-life and high Amps. A 26650 MOD is larger diameter for better grip, aesthetics, and more readily accommodates a larger RBA/RDA/Tank without looking top-heavy... the battery driving it does not have to necessarily be a perfect-fit to work well, because you're after mAh and discharge-rates, more-so than physical diameter of the battery. A 2100mAh VTC4 or 2600mAh VTC5 will perform very well in a 26650 MOD (using a sleeve to make it fit the larger diameter). The same can be said for any other 18650 of your choice. -
Kangertech Protank keeps dry vaping

I have nearly a dozen KPT2's in my rotation, and have only had one leak... which turned out to be a bad o-ring on the coil. One of my AeroTanks leaked once too, but turned out that my coil became loosened in the base when I removed it to refill and I didn't think to check the coil for snug before re-assembling. The number one reason for any tank to leak is bad o-ring seals at the coil or tank itself... without a good seal, the tank cannot maintain vacuum pressure to hold the juice in the tank where it belongs. The number two reason I've found is bad wicks (short, burnt, damaged), which again prevent the tank from maintaining vacuum pressure as well. Knock-off coils tend to fail faster (or leak more) as well. I received a free 5-pack of knock-off coils when I bought a pair of my KPT2s, and 2 of the 5 lasted less than 4 tank-fulls... I'm guessing the wicking material was a really cheap synthetic? Another thing I've found out... as well as many of the members here... the coils that come with the tanks typically fail faster or leak more often than genuine replacement coils. I have no idea why, but it is true. Of the genuine replacement coils (1.5 and 1.8 Ohm) that I have used in my KPT2's, all have performed exceptionally well for weeks and weeks... but honestly, I also tend to change them out after they've seen ~20ml of juice (roughly 8 refills). I have pushed these coils up to 15+ tanks-fulls and they were still performing well, but flavor does start to drop off after about 6-8 refills (depending on juice used). There are knock-off KPT2 tanks out there as well, and a co-worker of mine unknowingly bought one of those (from eBay)... it leaked like crazy! O-rings and tank-glass with imperfections were the cause. I replaced the thin o-rings with better quality, and swapped the tank with a genuine replacement, and no more issues! -

If you prefer to use Sony VTC4's or 5's, you CAN purchase "sleeves" or adapters for the 26650 MOD which will allow use of an 18650 battery. They are kinda like the plastic/nylon sleeves which allow you to use AA batteries in a D-size flashlight. I've seen them online and in a couple of vape-shops for a couple bucks. -
They come with tanks because the MVP kit is a "starter-kit" (battery/tank/charging-cable), and well... because they can... if they can start you off with their tanks, you'll likely stick with them for a while, rather than invest your money with Kanger or Aspire, etc. for their tanks. The iClear tanks are okay, but I did not prefer them over my Kanger tanks, although some people like them...
-
Using only my MVP, I can get 2-3 days out of it, and I'm a heavy, all-day vaper... For the most part, I just pop it on the charger nightly or every other night, and I haven't seen the yellow light in months. It does not harm Li-On batteries to charge them before they are fully discharged.. it's actually better for them to be topped-off more often!
-
101Vape.com had them for $40, but not sure if they still do... I still use my MVP daily, and yes, it will work with any eGo threaded tanks or 510 threaded tanks. They contain a 2600mAh battery, and are charged via micro-usb, just like most cell-phones. Fully charge from "empty" takes about 4-5 hours, but you can also use it while charging (pass-through). It will handle coils down to 0.8 Ohms, and variable-voltage is 3-6V in 0.1V increments... Power is adjustable from 5-11W in 0.5W increments. There is even an Ohm meter and puff-counter! I prefer my MVP over eGo-style for these main points: Stands up on the desk Higher mAh rating than an eGo-style VW setting in addition to VV No special charger needed (charges with my cell-phone cable) Fits well in my hand Button is stiff, which prevents accidental firing They're not as portable as a stick-shaped eGo, and they are heavier (not by much), but they are durable and reliable devices!

Hahaha, yes I consider gas costs too, which is why I do a LOT of online shopping, or plan my local shopping to make as few trips as possible! My family thinks I'm a little nuts because I ride my motorcycles even in the winter, but ~50mpg is triple what my truck gets, and double two of my cars! I even do grocery shopping on the bike... good luggage can hold $100 worth of groceries and not even squish the bread

The B&M about 20 miles away has genuine products and really good prices on "common" products. I generally check them before ordering online for things like this. If theirs are <$8, I'll snag one locally because after shipping for just one, that would be inline with prices. If they're asking $10 or more, I'll be hitting sweet-vapes (and probably spend $50 or more on things I don't need )
-
That reminds me... I'm down to one, functional eGo charger... I need to pick up a spare (or two)... how much did those set you back?

Congrats! The first 30-days is honestly the hardest... it's down-hill from there!

seven22 with that giant russian 91%
Earthling789 replied to charles vapor's topic in Variable Voltage & Wattage
I've no experience with the "giant", but I will say that my standard Russian's have a harsh/horrible flavor if I take my coils below 1.2 Ohms. Their sweet-spot (for me and my juices) is between 1.4 and 1.8 Ohms, running on MECH MOD or VV device the best taste and vapor is @ 3.8 - 4.0V. For a dual-coil on that deck, I would also guess the harsh taste (aside from low ohms) could be poor air-flow? Just a guess, though? On a side note... 30ml of juice in the tank?? Wow, considering the heat that would build-up with dual-coils, I'm thinking that the first half of the tank would taste pretty good, but heating that volume of juice over time... the last half would likely taste like burnt dirt? -
A recommendation for me?
Earthling789 replied to Itsmedeanna64's topic in General eLiquid Discussion
I love a strong cinnamon and mint flavors, and Mad Alchemist's 'Dragons' Breath' is a really good cinnamon/raspberry flavor... it reminds me of an Atomic Fireball after you get past the initial heat and all the 'red' color has been dissolved away If you like strawberry, tart apple, and pear flavors, I hear Fairy Dust Elixir from the same vendor is quite good too (although I've not tried it... allergic to strawberries!). Another favorite of mine is called Krankberry... it's a Raspberry/Cranberry mix that has a nice tart bite to it, and smooth flavor on inhale and exhale. -
Persistent nasty vapor even after cleaning and changing coils
Earthling789 replied to aerokinetic's topic in New Vapers Forum
Also, another thing to consider... how are you cleaning the tank? Are you fully disassembling the tank, washing, rinsing, rinsing, rinsing, and rinsing again (hotter the water the better)? You could have some residue from the cleaning process as well? Thoroughly air-drying, while disassembled, overnight also assures you don't have any water (or other rinse-agents) left in the crevices which will alter tastes. -
Persistent nasty vapor even after cleaning and changing coils
Earthling789 replied to aerokinetic's topic in New Vapers Forum
Are you dry-burning the new coils, as well? If so, chances are that you are burning up the wick, which is causing your burnt-tastes and poor vapor (because the wick has reduced ability). If you burn the wick inside the coil, it cannot properly wick juice TO the coil for proper atomizing. There is no need to dry-burn a replaceable coil, especially if new! If you are dry-burning to remove build-up on the coil (which would be non-existent on a new one anyway) to prolong it's life, you should remove the wick first, burn the coil to remove residue, then re-wick with fresh material (silica, cotton, rayon). -
Same here... 1.5 or 1.8 Ohm coils with standard 3.7V batteries gives the best flavor and vapor. That puts you right in the 9.1W to 7.6W respectively... lower resistance = higher Wattage, and most juices (at least the ones I use) seem to taste best in the 7.5-9W range for my tanks.

Now I might be weird but...
Earthling789 replied to hookahhighness's topic in General Vaping Discussion
You're right on the money... when I get a new juice, I try it in hardware set-ups to see where it tastes best. I have several flavors that will only be used in my Kanger tanks, some that only taste best in my Russian, and some that only taste good in my dripper... you are not alone! -
Breaking Aerotanks - Need advice on new tank
Earthling789 replied to rgunn1's topic in General Vaping Discussion
QC issue, or it is possible that you might have gotten a clone or two? Even the most reputable retailers receive clones (and not realize it), and most of the time, they are a non-issue, but when something breaks or does not line-up right, suspect they might not be genuine? -
I'll second the char on the coil... when I first started vaping, my coils seemed to last forever, and then my taste-buds started to discern the difference between a fresh coil and a burnt coil! Now, I change my coils a lot more often.... Some juices will not gunk-up and char nearly as quickly as others, and I agree on the "sugary" juices being the big offenders... One of my favorite evening vapes (Chocolate, peanut-butter, caramel) can destroy a coil after about 3-5 tank-fulls (7-12ml of juice)!

Breaking Aerotanks - Need advice on new tank
Earthling789 replied to rgunn1's topic in General Vaping Discussion
I've not had one break, but if you're not interested in airflow adjustment, you could also replace the bottom with the KPT2/KPT3 bases, which are solid? I go the other route and replace all my KPT2's bases with Air-flow-control bases -
I need advice on a new device!
Earthling789 replied to papercoyote's topic in General Vaping Discussion
Yes, I saw that too... and even though the VTR is a box-style, the tank is protected and they're pretty bullet-proof performance that uses 18650 batteries I didn't think I'd like a box-mod either, but I love my MVP... and if I were worried about being rough with it, a VTR would be my choice of equipment... and I'll likely replace my MVP with a VTR when the time comes to put the MVP out to pasture! I forgot about the Kamry K100... also very hefty and durable, but with the only thing keeping the tank to MOD being a tiny 510 connection, and the size is not really "pocket-friendly"... I'll stick with suggesting the VTR, primarily for the side-mounted tank and regulated MOD up to 15W... sure it's a box, but it fits nicely in your hand (and pocket) and performs very well -

Earthling789 replied to papercoyote's topic in General Vaping Discussion
You sound like the perfect candidate for an Innokin VTR. You already have experience, you already have 18650 batteries, and you only would need to pick up an all SS tank, like an AeroTank V2 or Nautilus (both fit nicely into the VTR) They make some NICE leather and pleather holsters for the VTR, and with the tank being protected on the side, it will also fit in a back-pocket without fear of breaking the tank off the top (like a MOD, eGo-style or traditional box-style). Just my $0.02 worth! -
Back-ups, back-ups, back-ups! And then have some back-ups! I always like to have back-ups, but didn't realize the need for secondary back-ups until I was away from home one day and my MVP's charge was low... grabbed an eGO from my bag, and it was DEAD... talk about a panic moment!! Thankfully, I had another eGo in the bag and it had enough charge to get me home! Carry an extra tank of your choice and an extra coil (or two) as well... just to be sure you have all your bases covered! Dripping is good, but when you're starting out, it pays to have a tank loaded with higher nic juice for those stress-times...

I work from home (SQL developer / DBA / Web-design) for a large tech company (HP), so yes, I vape at work When I'm in a company office, I vape when and where allowed (server rooms are a no-no), but indoors are allowed (so far) in most of the offices I have worked in over the past 6-months. Usually, I'll have my MVP or an eGo (just for portability) when I'm in an office. My daily set-ups are MVP 2.0 with AeroTank or KPT2, Copper Penny MOD w/ matte-finish Russian 91%, or Brass Windrose MOD w/ polished Russian 91% or Magma RDA. When I'm traveling or on my motorcycle, I like the portability of my eGo-T w/ KPT3-mini or my MVP/AeroTank/KPT2 combos!
