  1. Welcome to VT... And I'm glad you got the answer (and understood it). I know people with degrees in electronics that can't grasp the concept of EITHER / OR... you can't set BOTH Voltage AND Wattage... you only set one of them, and the circuitry adjusts the other parameter to provide the setting you selected, based on the resistance of the coil in your tank. Using Wattage mode (P), is how most of us use the MVP... that way you can set 8.5W and get 8.5W, regardless of the tank's coil resistance.
  2. To my knowledge, the Vivi Nova is only available with plastic tanks... because of the way it is designed. Light-weight, plastic tanks like the Vivi Nova (IMO) are "disposable".... they are not designed to last forever, or even for years, although if you are very careful, you could have one last for a very long time. If you want a good Pyrex tank, I would suggest the Aspire Nautilus or Nautilus-mini... Davide or Davide-mini... or any of the Kanger Pro-Tank or Aero-Tank designs. All of the tanks I mentioned are bottom-coil designs (either single or dual). Yes, they are heavier, yes, they are stainless-steel and Pyrex, but they are also very durable, don't care what juice you put in them (with exception of max-VG juices due to wicking issues with the coils), and can handle a few bumps and bangs. Replacement parts are also readily available for any of the ones I mentioned, online or at most any B&M. For me... for the money you pay for a Vivi Nova and a 10-pack of coils... you could purchase a nice Kanger ProTank2 or AeroTank (or the mini versions of either), and the same 10-pack of coils, and spend the same money (or less, in most cases).
  3. Thanks for the link and parts-list/diagram... but I lucked out and found one to fit at the local True-Value. They didn't have the set-screw alone, so I had to buy the "kit", but at least I have a spare now, and a few other parts that I'll find use for eventually.
  4. Most of my Juices taste great @ 7.5-10W, depending on the tank/coil combo. Most of my tanks are using 1.5 Ohm coils (Kanger BCC or BDC), but I have a few 1.6 (Nautilus) or 1.8 (Kanger BCC). As Comp said, the juice will determine how high you can go... and most of Comp's juices do taste better at higher Wattages, but again, based on the tank/coil combo you're using. I don't know how much those IPOW2's are running... but the V|T Store has the ELeaf iStick (VV/VW box-style) for $32 right now, and everyone is raving about them... although I've yet to pick one up, so I can't give a personal opinion Also, since Wattage is a function of Voltage and Resistance, using a VV eGo-style (like the Vision Spinner) will give you the same "adjustment" you're looking for... for about $22?
  5. Me too... I rarely get more than 4-5 hours of sleep a night, and I'm capable of snagging a 20-min cat-nap during the day, which means I WON'T get an hour or two of my usual sleep at night, because of it. I have to be the last one to bed every night... and I'm usually the first up in the mornings. Although, I do love my Sunday mornings... everyone knows to let me sleep if I'm still in bed... that's usually when I "catch-up" and get about 7-hours I have noticed, though... switching to 6mg juices about an hour or so before I "try" to go to bed HAS helped me get to sleep easier and faster, so I'm probably getting an hour more sleep than usual now...
  6. I looked for the specs on your battery too (based on the picture), and it is either a "house-brand" or a new-to-the-street knock-off / clone battery. There is no telling if it is a respectable battery or junk, which has been passed off as top-of-the-line by the retailer. Take Comp's advice... buy a couple of Vision Spinner's or Spinner-2's, or any of the batteries you'll find on the V|T store... they are guaranteed authentic, and probably the best prices you'll find anywhere on the web. As for tanks, the KPT3-minis are excellent (I have 6 of them in regular use), but I would suggest using 1.5 or 1.8 Ohm coils in them, and (if you're using a Spinner or Twist battery) set the Voltage between 3.3 and 3.8V for starters. Rarely do I find a juice that requires me to go higher than 3.8V to get a good, flavorful vape, if I'm using one of those resistance coils. Oh, and don't feel bad about your first purchase... my first "kit" ran me $75 from the local B&M, two medium-size batteries, two tanks, charger, and a case... but nearly 9-months later and those batteries are still going strong! Hopefully they'll refund your money (or at least part of it), rather than store credit, but if they give you store credit, at least you can use that towards juice or something "name-brand"?
  7. When you try the Peanut Butter Fudge Brownie... better have a big glass of milk handy... Every time I vape on that, I can feel 5-lb added, lol
  8. When I quit cold-turkey all those years ago, my wife told me "I hate your nasty habit, but if you don't start smoking again, one of us is moving out!" The next day she came home with a carton of my favorites Apparently I was a grizzly-bear to EVERYONE during that time...
  9. Those 510/eGo adapters are awesome to have handy... I have one that was given to me, and I've used it with my Mech MOD and a KPT3-mini a while back (when my eGo battery died).
  10. Oh, I do remember those days... dad would give me $1, and I'd ride my bike to the little corner store with one gas-pump and buy him two packs of Viceroy, and there was always just enough left over for a candy-bar or RC-cola. I guess he knew the bribery of a candy-bar or cola was enough to get me to go to the store for him (because mom never let us have candy/cola except on rare or special occasions). I never started smoking that early (was actually 17 when I started buying them for me), but back then, there was nothing to stop a 7-yr old from buying a pack and lighting-up... Let's face it, up until the late 70's, practically 2/3 or more of the population smoked! And, it wasn't uncommon when I was in HS for a teacher to bum a smoke off students between classes or before/after school....
  11. Thirty years... pack-a-day average, and pushing 2-pack-a-day in the last year of smoking... I stopped once before for several months, roughly 16-17 years ago, but could never kick the cravings... Gum, patches, Chantix... all garbage in my book. Vaping has been the ONLY salvation!
  12. These have been around a while, as an upgraded version of the original iClear30 design. I've tried the original iClear30 and iClear16 (with the hanging wicks), and was not impressed with them, so I didn't bother trying the upgraded version. Glad to hear you approve of them, and I'm glad Innokin has a better tank available... I too wish they were Pyrex... I think that is my #1 reason for not giving them another try?
  13. "Plumes of smoke" are actually vapor, and they're produced by the VG content of e-liquids. Flavor is carried by the PG. A good mix of flavor/vapor is found in 60/40, 50/50, or 40/60 juices. 30/70 juices are about as far as I'll go and still maintain a decent flavor (30% PG), but prefer 60/40 and 50/50, as I'm not a cloud-chaser. If you want huge vapor clouds, you sacrifice flavor... and most factory coils (plug-and-play) do not handle the thickness of high VG content juices because they clog the wicks and gunk-up a coil. Not that you can't get good function from a tank like the Nautilus or Atlantis, but be prepared to drop in a fresh coil every couple of tanks. You initially said you were after better flavor... so I'll chime in with Aspire Nautilus, Kanger AeroTank, or Joyetech Delta tanks for good flavor producers. If you go the rebuildable route, you'll get excellent flavor from an RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer) such as a Kayfun, Russian 91%, Orchid, etc. For true cloud-chasing (using 100% VG, producing far less flavor), you'd need to bump up to RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer), which will involve high-Amp, high-drain batteries, mechanical mods (or very pricey regulated mods), and the choice of atomizers are endless... But, the RDA or RTA solution means building your own coils, and as Joe said, does require a learning curve.
  14. I've personally purchased from several of our vendors here. I've had nothing but good service and quality products from them. Mostly I'm taking advantage of specials, discounts, or sales they have posted for forum members, but I do feel better by supporting those who take the effort to support our forum. Regardless of where I buy my products, though, I will check inventory on our supporting vendor's sites first to compare prices. Sweet-vapes gets a lot of my business because their shipping is pretty fast and prices are on-par with others, but if I'm not in a hurry, I don't mind taking advantage of lower pricing from our Chinese-based sellers, too... just be aware of the 4-8-week shipping times from China.
  15. Ace and True-Value are my go-to for odd parts, pins, and screws. Occasionally I'll luck-out at Lowe's or Radio-Shack, too, but RS is a last-ditch try... unless you're also looking for a cell-phone, over-priced TV, or inferior RC car
  16. I've dealt with electronics from all over the world... from cheap Chinese no-name parts to high-end Japanese, US, or European parts, and one thing is constant... you do get a bad part from time to time. kngfdrgn is correct... most companies batch-test only a handful of parts per machine, per shift, daily... probably ~ 0.1% of the total production of any given part.
  17. I agree Bebop... The whole story is extremely suspect, and is obviously being used to push an agenda... especially since it is NY! I feel for the family for their loss, but I think we need far more info before "vaping" is declared as the evil suspect. Last time I checked, my e-liquid bottles are safely on their shelf, and they don't get together with my guns at night, hot-wire my truck, and go out "looking for trouble", nor do they climb down from the shelf and terrorize my children or animals A 1-yr old child is capable of getting into MANY things, but they are pretty much limited to the dangers they can REACH. Kids will also ingest darn near anything they can get in their hands, but things that taste bad... not buying it was ingested... ever give a baby a bit of lemon? I'm willing to bet that improper supervision, coupled with improper storage will be the cause of this tragedy (regardless of the source or method of the poisoning)
  18. Excellent! I love seeing MODs, racks, and grips made from every-day, household items. When that EVOD cell goes south, can you replace it easily?
  19. It's all a numbers game... Manufacturers can make any claims they want, and back up those claims with skewed/slanted data, because there are rarely standardized tests or standardized testing methods. It's up to us to read that data and levy the results against apples-to-apples comparisons. On the bright side, the Nitecore chargers are excellent and well-made. I have two of their i4 models and they are reliable work-horses. However, "individual results may vary"
  20. I know the Nitecore batteries you're talking about... I use them in my flashlights too. Yes, they are "protected" with a PCB fuse, and are taller. I'd not even begin to try to modify those to remove the protection circuit. Just use those Nitecores for your flashlights (as they are intended for) and pick up some unprotected 18650's for the VTR The Panasonic 3400's are about the highest mAh you'll find for your VTR. BTW, Amazon has a four-pack of Panasonic for $38 right now (Prime shipping). The price fluctuates from time to time but generally in the $35-40 range for the four-pack
  21. JoeJoe gave a good list of batteries, and I always trust Sony VTC4 and VTC5... but also don't forget the Panasonic 3400mAh as well... I have four that I rotate in my mechanical Mods, and I know several on here use them in their VTR's as well.
