  1. With all the melting snow and buckets of rain coming down for the past week, I have a little bit of grass in my moat (formerly my yard)
  2. You probably nailed it Jason... The vape-shop owner will contact a lawyer, and they'll tell them to settle out of court for $10K and his medical bills because vaping is a "fledgeling" industry and there are no precedents to cover the shop. And everyone wonders why our insurance costs for home/auto/life keep skyrocketing!! Sadly, there are precedents of people using a product improperly... stupidity has a price... this guy paid it, and just wants someone to give him a winning lottery ticket... and, since the shop doesn't have the logo for Toyota or Ford or IBM or Pfizer, or DOW or [insert big company name here] on their building, they won't be able to fight it with a team of million-dollar law-firms behind them. So, yet another stupid person (who isn't so stupid they can't hire a cut-throat ambulance-chaser) will get another lottery win, compliments of our legal system.
  3. 26 that just arrived... to replenish the ones I've used, and add to my arsenal Sadly, they were out of stock on a few others I wanted...
  4. Top comment says it all... it's NOT an e-cig battery... it is a high-drain INDUSTRIAL cell, the same type/style used in industrial battery packs for laptops, cordless power-tools, flashlights, etc. etc. etc.... it's not the manfacuters fault if he stuck it in his pocket with loose change or his keys, where it could short-out. Sure, the battery may have been a cheap-o, but improper storage/transport is HIS fault! There should be a law banning the existence of lawyers People have the right to be stupid, but they also have the right to be branded as stupid... this guy has his brand/marks to prove it....
  5. The folks at Wizard Labs came through... I picked up another quart each of PG and VG, and all my flavorings and Nicotine arrived today! Not pictured are the amber dropper-top bottles and miscellaneous beakers and flasks (which are in the drying rack Now I can play mad scientist
  6. A big concern is the size of the particles, according to Jonathan Thornburg, Ph.D., author of the study and a senior research engineer and director of Exposure and Aerosol Technology at RTI International. “They are smaller than 1,000 nanometers, 50 times smaller than the width of a human hair,” he says. “They can stay airborne for a long time, and penetrate into the deepest part of our lungs.” Hmmmm... and smoke is larger, and less penetrating?? (I won't even get into the other inconsistencies / errors in their "findings") Just another half-a##ed study to shove a "negative" out there for the media to salivate over...
  7. Cheaply made juices, very sweet juices, and very dark juices will gum up a coil quickly, and diminish the flavor. Upping the Watts will help some, but is not a cure. The cotton is getting dark, probably not really burnt, due to the charring-effect of the juice on the coil... this happens to EVERY coil, but you rarely see it in a KPT or Nautilus coil One nice thing about Japanese cotton is that it will darken due to coil-char, but still wicks well... until you do burn it, and you'd know if you did... the taste would be horrible. The char builds-up, and eventually the char-flavor will overpower the juice flavor, which is why you get less and less juice flavor, over time. For your 1.2 Ohm @ 12W... that's not bad, and probably the limitation of the juice. I run my RTA's between 11W and 18W, depending on the juice, and my lowest builds are 1.3 Ohm, up to 1.6 Ohm. I'm running a 1.3 Ohm coil right now @ 12.5W, and the flavor is excellent at that level. More power does not equate to more flavor (or more clouds)... it usually just means "more burnt" Jason is spot-on about the quality of the juice extending the life of the coil. I've been mixing my own juices, and the ones I've gotten from better vendors (like Fadora) seem to make my coils/wicks last MUCH longer before flavor drops-off. Cheap, sweet, high-PG juices seem to kill a coil's flavor ability FAST.
  8. You're very welcome, Tug... fingers crossed it doesn't have to go through China to get to you
  9. Well, I was at work today, enjoying the 65-deg weather on the patio, and enjoying my vape on my lunch-break, when a couple of the smokers came out... One of the ladies looked at my rig (Cloupor mini and Russian 91%)... stared at me... and then walked over to make her (media biased, uninformed) comment to me... of course, regarding the recent "news"... She said, "I hope you don't blow yourself up with that thing, 'cause I'm not going to take you to the hospital" Now, my immediate brain synapse was to lash into her about media lap-dogs, etc. and cut her down... but I took a breath and calmly said... "Yeah, it's a tragedy when a new vaper gets sold advanced gear without any training or knowledge, just to make a sale... I feel bad for him, and I sure hope the guy that sold it to him feels bad too." Then, I proceeded to educated her (as she now seemed interested) on the benefits of vaping, how it got me away from 30-yrs of smoking, and how much better I feel every day I'm away from smoke She may never try vaping, but if she does, I hope she'll come to me or at least another person (who is not an idiot sales-person looking to make a sale). I offered my services to help her get started... maybe soon she'll strike up another conversation?
  10. Sorry I missed wishing you a happy birthday yesterday... so I'll just say I'm early for next year And to give you a birthday present to be anticipating... here's what is in the box headed your way:
  11. Yes, Tam... both the cap and the mandrel are marked with the size... and each mandrel has it's own cap, as well as two screw-hole locations for thinner or thicker wires. The body holds each mandrel, and a cap holds the mandrel in place (all have the same size base). The body-cap compresses the mandrel to hold it tight. Then the top-cap spins on the mandrel to make the coil (like the Kuro Koiler and other similar designs).
  12. The folks at Coil-Master.net were kind enough to send me one of their new coil winding tools for evaluation and review. I have no clue on the retail cost from online retailers, or if the V|T Store will carry them, but from the manufacturer, they're $25.99 (and they offer $5 coupons), so this 5-in-1 tool runs about the same price as ONE Kuro Koiler. My first impression is that they are straight, smooth, and well-built tools. The diameter of the coiler body is slightly smaller than a Kuro Koiler, but still easy to handle. The mandrel diameters offered are 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm. I have not verified the sizes with a micrometer, but I will (as soon as I get a chance). It also comes with a decently-made pouch to carry/store the handle/mandrels in. The finish and labeling seem to be well done, but there is a slight bur on the exit-side of the wire-hole (next to the mandrel). It's not a bad bur, but a raised, rough spot where the hole was drilled. It does not seem to affect the function, nor does it appear to nick the wire, but if it does, it's nothing that can't be fixed with about 2-seconds and a Dremel Tool. I do wish the screws were a tiny bit easier to turn with your fingers, and the "typical blue" allen-head screwdriver is a bit cheezy, but functional. I think a real, right-angle allen-wrench would have been more appropriate and easier to work with / manipulate. I'll give it a thorough work-out this weekend, as I need to re-coil a few of my RTA's, and I need to rebuild a couple of KPT coil-heads, too. More review to come....
  13. I watched that "news story" twice, paying special attention to the battery fragments... and it looks a LOT like an Ultrafire! Tam, the commenter you copied is spot-on... failure to properly use a product is the fault of the idiot user, no-one else! I'd love to spend an hour ranting over the poor "journalism" of this piece, but I have to comment... the man was NOT SMOKING IN BED, he was vaping!! The fact he was using an improper battery and did not have his device "tuned" properly is not even newsworthy... but never let the media miss an opportunity to let a good crisis go to waste, as this ONE instance (and the brief mention of a 17yr old last summer had one explode on him... oh, wow, two instances of stupidity in the past 8-10 months?) obviously means that all "e-mod-cigarettes" (their words) should be banned, or regulated, or perhaps the government should just issue licenses to use them? Or require fire-suits? Or make it a $1,000,000,000 fine if you're caught "smoking one in bed", lol?
  14. The only trades I've made, so far... Back last summer, I traded my two KPT2-minis (and $10) to a guy for two brand-new KPT2's... he wanted smaller for his Spinners It's not necessarily a trade, but more of a reciprocation... TugBoat recently sent me his Orchid V4 because he wasn't a fan... and I'm sending him a hand-built vape-stand to hold his Spinners and keep a few tanks organized.
  15. Let's hope it is false, but even if it is not, it is Darwin Selection at it's finest, IMO... I just hope it wasn't some noob that was sold cheap-*ss Chinese knock-off batteries, a high-end hybrid mech-mod, and an Atlantis (device of the day) by an overzealous salesman, so they could "chuck clouds" like the cool kids. Every day, people do stupid things in fast cars... that they have no business behind the wheel of... so people jumping into mechs without any knowledge, research, or advice is a lot like turning your 12yr old loose with the keys to your $500K Lamborghini... and who is to blame? The person driving without knowing how, or the person who handed them the keys, telling them to "look cool"?
  16. On the bright side of vape-mail... today I received my quart of PG, quart of VG, and two dozen amber dropper-top Boston Round bottles! Now, to stalk the mail-lady for my flavorings and Nic solution! Hopefully they'll be here by the weekend... It will be a rainy Saturday (if the weatherman is correct), so it would be the perfect time to mix some juices!!
  17. Well, I was taking a nap... so someone needed to step up... glad it was you! LOL
  18. Accidents happen... we'll let it slide this time... :D
  19. Wow, I go to work, come home, grab a nap, and all of a sudden somebody has taken over my job
  20. I took a chance with VapeNW.com and ordered Thunderhead juice when I ordered my Cloupor mini. It was billed as "cloud-chaser juice", so it is a very high VG blend... and thick as honey It's also only available in 0, 3, or 6mg Nic levels because you will only be dripping this stuff... just don't do it when it's cold outside, or you'll be waiting a while for that drop to fall The juice itself is not bad... slight glycerine overtone, but the Ares (chocolate covered cherries) does taste like the real thing... a touch sweet for my tastes, but still good. Oh, and others have complained that the bottles are rarely full... and they are correct... mine had maybe 28ml in it, rather than 30ml... Now, that being said... I've ordered from all the ones listed by Tam... as well as Seattle Vapors, Bubba Boss, and Killer Juice. Bubba has some max-VG blends, but I've not tried anything from any of these sites higher than 30/70 PG/VG mixes.
  21. The Squape Reloaded allows you to remove the deck without draining the tank.
  22. The Kayfun Lite Plus and Russian 91% are so much alike, it is hard to make a choice... For me, I selected the Russian based on air-flow screw location. Although, honestly, once you set the air-flow to where you want it, you'll rarely adjust it, unless you change to a thicker/thinner juice. YiLoong makes really good Russian clones. I have two of theirs, and other than being a few mm taller than the authentic (which I have two of), their performance is spot-on. The best part is that you can pick up clones for < $25. Kayfun clones can be found < $20, but I would avoid the no-name cloners and some people say the Tobeco clones are hit-and-miss in their quality/performance... I wouldn't know, as I don't own one. EhPro seems to be one of the better Kayfun clones... Infinite and HCigar also make good ones, but it's hard to find an HCigar V1 or V2 these days. The authentic Russian is made in China at the Kebo manufacturing facility. They also make clones in their off-contract time, so yes, there are 1:1 clones out there, made on the same line as the authentic, but without the UCT logo between the air-screw and air-hole. Any clone listed with a body of 42mm and overall height of 72mm would be a Kebo manufactured clone. YiLoong clones are 47mm body and 78-84mm overall height... because they use also manufacture Kayfun and use the same chimney and body-tube sections for both... the YiLoong clones hold about 0.5ml more juice than the authentic, too. One thing to look for when buying a good Russian 91% clone is the logo/lettering on the base... The YiLoong clones will have "The Russian 91%" spelled out in lower-case letters, and the first letters, "T" and "R" will be oulined letters, not solid-block letters. The last letter "N" should be an upside-down "U", not a typical lower-case letter 'n' with a visible straight line on the left-side...
  23. Storage is pretty much up to you... I keep my spare parts like o-rings, screws, coils, bases, drip-tips, building-supplies, etc. in a couple of small Plano tackle-boxes, because of the dividers and added organization it gives me. There's nothing wrong with a cedar-lined box, but your plastic parts may pick up the cedar odor? I would not store juice in that box, as it may also pick up cedar "flavor".... I store my tanks upright on a wooden rack when they're not in use. I store them either full, ready to vape, or completely clean/empty. Store a tank less than 1/3 full and it will leak due to lack of vacuum pressure. Extra juices should be stored in a cool, dark place (away from heat and direct light)... the fridge or freezer make excellent places for long-term storage. I put mine in dark-colored Tupperware-style containers, and pop them into my mini-fridge. When you want one to vape, just let it reach room-temp and shake it occasionally before using it. My old glass-top humidor will eventually get converted to a display case for my Mech-mods... it's on my project to-do list... I nice purple or royal blue silk/satin covering the interior? It is Spanish Cedar-lined, so I'm hoping my Mods don't all end up smelling like cedar
  24. I just ordered another 100mg batch of Nicotine solution in VG, and more flavorings from Wizard Labs... they finally got the flavors I needed back in stock
  25. Haha, glad I could help confuse you even more Seriously, between the KFL+ V1 and Russian V2, the only difference is the air-flow control screw location, and the Russian has adjustable 510 pin
