  1. Haha... The key is to reach temp as slowly as possible, but still high enough to get a good "crust" on the meat quickly so it will hold the juices internally... this is what makes the meat good and tender. There is nothing wrong with smoking for 4-6 hours, and then popping into the oven for another 4-6 hours with low heat to keep it cooking internally. It is edible once the internal temp reaches 160 (will be tough), but what really softens the meat and collagen/connective-tissue is when it breaks 185. Some people push it to 205... but I like to pull mine out at around 195-200, and start pulling them apart after a 15-20 minute cool-down. Another good indicator is that you can slide the bone out (with very little effort) without pulling any meat with it... if you can do that, it is done!
  2. I smoked 4 big butts for my daughter's wedding back in May... and that is how I did them... about 18 hours or so in the smoker over-night with a big drip-pan full of OJ and Apple-juice... They came out fantastic, and all that meat disappeared quickly
  3. Good looking smoker... I've not tried the electric route either, but I have cooked a couple of butts in the oven before, and they came out pretty good. Do you have some Hickory chips or fruit-wood in the smoker for flavor?
  4. If you don't have a spare tank section that came with it, and the o-ring replacement didn't fix the issue, you can try removing the tank and flip it over. Sometimes it will seal better if it is installed the other way (upside-down). If that doesn't fix it, or you start getting flooding of the coil, then you'll need to replace the glass, as it seems that one might have a bur or dimple that is keeping it from sealing correctly.... it's a RARE thing, but it does happen
  5. eGo-T 1100mAh (bought a pair in black), and four Ce4 tanks, along with carry-case, charger, wall-wart, and two bottles of juice to get me started.
  6. Yes, yes they do... Ski is a product of Double-Cola, out of Chattanooga TN, and is their own company (like Dr. Pepper). It is carried locally anywhere you can get RC-Cola... RC is their local distributor here, at least. And, yes, it is good stuff, and usually only $0.99/bottle. You find it a lot in the south, but rarely above the Ohio river, and I've never seen it out west?
  7. I still buy it by the case, and keep a case or two in the pantry... it's a good side-item or snack when you're alone and don't feel like cooking a big meal, or are tired of sandwiches. My boys will fix it from time to time, adding in jalapenos, and whatever left-overs are in the fridge... my middle son like the shrimp ramens with tuna... glad it's his stomach, not mine
  8. I torture my smaller KPT3 mini tanks too... Where I have problems is the larger tanks, especially sub-ohm tanks that are larger. Those tanks that are 5ml, 7ml, or larger hold more juice, yes, but that means juice gets "cooked" by the heating of the coil, slowly, over and over and over, and if you refill before it's empty, you're compounding the problem, so eventually, the last 2ml or even the whole tank of juice tastes nasty. I've found my happy-medium to be the 2.5ml KPT/AeroTanks and my 4ml Russians, and I'll vape those tanks to almost the last drop to prevent refilling over baked juices.
  9. Yep, I know the place you are talking about... it's still in use as a prison today. Ale-8-1 is a soft-drink... kinda close to Ginger-Ale, but with a sweet apple flavor that makes it very addictive I'm surprised you never had the pleasure... if you did, you'd remember them, and probably craved one when I mentioned it, lol Even the dry counties don't seem to care if you have it, or drink it... they just don't want you to buy it in their county... it's crazy, I know... One of the arguements for going wet here was "if you sell it here, people will buy it and take it home to drink, not buy it 30-miles away and be tempted to drink it on the way home, or go to a bar 30-miles away and drive home drunk". Apparently that has been the case, because in the past 6 months (since opening the first liquor store), fewer DUI's have been issued, and the county/city tax-base has increased due to the sin-taxes imposed on liquor sales... go figure... logic escapes some people...
  10. I wish someone had held me down and beat that into me when I was younger too, lol. I kinda learned the hard way, and wised-up when I sat down and worked through my annual expenses about 10-yrs ago... and realized how much in debt I truly was (most of it going to the banks). I have one CC now, which I only use for fuel and/or the occasional vape-gear purchase (paid monthly in full), and owe nothing more than my monthly utilities, living expenses, and the occasional medical expense. I'll never pay interest to the bank again for another car (or appliance, or furniture), and if I can help it... same for a house! If I have to for a house, I'll have to, but I'll knock out as much in cash as possible, and eat lots of Ramen Noodles to get it paid off in 5-7 years! Heck, I've been needing to remodel a bathroom due to a leaky tub for a year (yes, the leak has been fixed, but the damage was done), and finally (this month) bought the last of the materials needed to tackle the job... new RGB-LED fixtures, toilet, sink, tile, and the old tub is getting replaced with a poured-concrete, walk-in shower with multiple shower-heads and endless hot-water.... Now, to just get the time to do all the work! Around here, a junk car body (without engine) is worth $200 from the scrap-yards. So, yeah, even buying a car for $200-500 is a good investment, if you can get it to run for more than a couple of months, it's still cheaper than a monthly car payment! My son paid $800 for his Elantra, and it's been a good running car since he bought it in 2009... and the most expensive repair was a new radiator ($100)... Every piece of furniture in my LR is either second-hand, family heirloom, or bought on close-outs... but none of it is junk, it's all quality, and I don't care if the end-tables don't match the coffee table... Every bedroom uses shelves and/or 3x3 closetmaid cube-shelves with cloth baskets for storing clothes... no need to have $1000 particle-board dressers and chests when a $39 cube-shelf actually holds MORE... if I can't make it myself (like I did with my Pine bed and chest/wardrobe), I go for economical function over beauty. Like you, I'm good with something that "works", because I'm not out to impress my neighbors with fancy stuff
  11. Yes, plenty of "dry" counties here... My county just voted to go wet this year, and the city council "compromised" by allowing only 3 liquor licenses... and one was bought by a group of churches to prevent anyone else from getting it There is also only ONE bar license available, and they've had to jump through so many hoops, it may be 2020 before they get to open and serve the first drink! Other counties (Madison) has restrictions where liquor can only be sold Mon-Sat, and only within city limits... no sales on Sunday, no sales out in the county. Danville is no longer dry. They now have a liquor sales all over town, and nearly every restaurant has a bar. I can say, if I drive east or south, I would have to go 100 miles or more to get anything stronger than Pepsi So, if you were in Danville, then perhaps you know about Ale-8-1? Or as we refer to it here... "Winchester Swamp Water"? That stuff is fantastic!
  12. What? You're not using the Atari joystick like the rest of us??
  13. I guess I learned a long time ago about the value of a decent vehicle compared to the price paid... and no, the quality does not go up just because it costs more A good, older vehicle, well-maintained, and kept clean will get you from point A to point B just the same, and will do so with a little $ in your pocket at the end of the day.... I have a cousin that gave me a good advice when I was a teen... and I learned from his life-lessons... When he needed a car, he went to the auction-house, and bid $50 on every car that came through, and he'd eventually get one. He'd drive it for months, sometimes years, and when it broke down, that is where he left it, and he'd buy another $50 car. In the mid-80's, he bought a '78 Monte Carlo for $50... and was still driving it as a work-vehicle in 2001!!! All he ever did to that car was change the oil, an occasional tune-up, and put tires on it... I've not talked to him in years, and for all I know, he still has it Yes, I've bought new cars, and near-new cars... but after I bought my last one from a dealer's lot, and paid all that interest... nope, never again... just like household appliances, when I need one, I'll pay cash, and get what I can afford... if I can't afford it, I'll save up for it, and pay cash for it next month or the month after (and if I need something like a fridge, today, I'll buy a used one until I can pull together enough to buy a new one that I want, then re-sell the used one or donate it away to someone needy). And yes, BirdDog and Tam... manual transmissions are rarely stolen these days... not even the car thieves can drive stick, lol... which is why all but 3 vehicles in my driveway are manual transmissions! BTW, I stand corrected on the 2005 Chevy... it's an Uplander... I must have been thinking of the Freestar (Ford) she traded for it (despite my begging her not to do it), and merged the two names together... ooops...
  14. I "think" availability has to do with Federal gov't restrictions/regulations... enforced by the BATF (Bureau of All Things Fun)... Grain alcohol (Clear Springs) is available more in the mid-west and west-coast... Corn-based or potato-based alcohol is more east and south. There are a few states where you can get both, however. Oh, and some states regulate the strength (proof)... where you can get 190+ here, some states limit it to, say, 140-proof as maximum alcohol content (for example).
  15. Kudo's BirdDog! I'll never own another "new" car... only those "new to me" And, I'll limit my expenditures to $2500... if I can't buy a decent car for that, I won't buy it!! I love not having a car payment, love not having higher insurance premiums, and love cheaper registration costs... My 2008 Fusion has 185K on the odometer, and in the worst shape (slipping tranny, bubbling dashboard, door handles, paint fading/chipping/rust) of all the cars in my driveway. The rest of my fleet: 1993 Ford Probe SE - 124K (zero issues, like new) 1994 Ford Probe SE - 149K (minor fender ding and clear-coat failure on hood) 1996 Ford Probe GT - Mazada engine swap, 40K, needs re-painted, but only due to clear-coat failure 2005 Chevy Freelander - 110K, the whole thing is falling apart... cheap interior, motor is the only good thing about it 2002 Hyundai Elantra - 275K, and still going strong... has some rust in the fenders, but everything works on it 1974 VW Beetle - 86K, floor pans rusty, but runs like a new one 1969 Ford F250 - 24K on factory rebuilt 390 modified, rust in bed, but will go anywhere, anytime! Plus, 3 Honda street-bikes, which are ridden regularly... Insurance on all of them is dirt-cheap... I pay more for tags/registration every year than I pay for 3 or 4-months of insurance... My family thinks I'm crazy for having all these in the driveway, but you never have to worry about that to drive when one needs a repair, repairs are cheap (and I do them myself), and when a family member needs to borrow a vehicle... guess where they come first?
  16. Even my pure VG in the bottle will suck into a dropper, and flows decently into a 12ga needle/syringe when I'm mixing... BUT, the VG and juices I store in my fridge can become thick as molasses in January until they "thaw out" and reach room temperature Comp is right on the jelly-effect... I've mixed some flavors and notice that the VG will "glob" and even the 50/50 mixes seem as thick as pure VG. I don't have an Atlantis, but all my other sub-tanks will vape high-VG content juices, but like Tug said, you have to cut back the air-flow a bit to increase the vacuum in the tank or you can/will get the occasional dry-hit. Also, any coil that uses Organic Cotton... once you get a dry hit or two, the cotton is shot, and needs to be re-wicked or replace the entire coil-head if you don't feel comfortable re-wicking it.
  17. ^^ This ^^ If you're using the 0.5 Ohm coil, 12mg nicotine may be high. When I vape below 1 Ohm, I always go to 6mg or lower in my nicotine... the lower the resistance, the lower the nicotine level should be. Low Ohm coils are hotter, and nicotine absorbs faster into the body with higher heat, and it also will irritate the throat/mouth/lungs when hot (at high concentrations)... so this could be what you are experiencing? Try a 6mg or even a 3mg nicotine level, and I think you'll find it better. OR, switch to the 1.2 Ohm coil, and the 12mg may be more tolerable?
  18. I've not had any luck with dry-burning KPT coils either... even in short bursts... they either pop, or they just don't taste right. Since I've bought them in bulk, even my dual-coils were only ~ $0.60 each, so I just toss them into my rebuild-box, and when I'm really bored I rebuild a few of them at a time, but I'd have no issues just tossing them either because they are cheap enough. I was using cheap Vodka to soak coils and tanks, but I found the local liquor store sells EverClear for the same price as their cheapest Vodka, so I've been using that, and it "cleans" better, with less residue... it makes a tank sparkle (after a good wash), and fully removes old juice flavors, too!
  19. Thanks Tug... I'll let her know, and if she wants it, I'll get back with you.
  20. Soaking the coils doesn't always remove the gunk that builds up on the surface of the coil, and to me, the wicks seem to lose their ability to soak-up properly, after a while, especially silica wicks. Are you talking about KPT or Nautilus coils, or something bigger like sub-tank coils? Some people have had great luck with pulling the wicks from the subtank coils, dry-burn the gunk off, and re-wick with organic cotton... can really extend the life of them that way. You can dry-burn a KPT coil and not damage the wick (unless you really pour the power to it), and that will help, too... but for the cost, either rebuild them, or toss them, rather than try to keep them alive beyond their time.
  21. Actually, both spellings are acceptable... one is "Queen's English" (UK), and the other is American English... I work with a lot of people from other countries, and spelling is always different... especially when the writer's first language is NOT English People get on to me constantly for misspelling "grey", but both grey and gray are acceptable (same word), and when I spend a lot of time talking with the Brits, Irish, or Scots, I find myself using the Queen's spellings more and more because I make an effort to spell the way they do (emails, IM's, etc.), and for days afterwards, I'm spelling that way in emails and writings to my local co-workers Some of the most fun (and frustrations) of my day can be spend deciphering Engrish from the Chinese, Hinglish from the Indians, and Spanglish from those in South America, lol
  22. PM me, and I'll give you a crash-course
  23. Another reason I download most everything, rather than stream it. I can pull the shows I want onto a thumb-drive, carry them with me, and watch them on the road, from my laptop, or push them from my laptop/tablet direct to a hotel TV via HDMI or using a Chromecast stick... some better hotels have TV's with USB ports, so it's just plug-and-play at that point. Even at home, my media-server is running 24x7, and any TV or PC in the house can watch whatever they want, whenever they want without using any bandwidth from my cable company (beyond the initial download).
