  1. ^^ Way to think outside the box, B! ^^ Yes, I think that would be a viable solution, and would be much like adding flavors to water... there's no regulations on flavorings (until they are added into a bottle labeled as e-liquid).
  2. I've been re-packaging my older MODs and putting them away for a rainy day... yes, I save the boxes they came in for re-packaging and possible re-sale . They'll be my back-ups should my primary Wismec/Kanger/Cloupor MODs bite the dust (and I can't replace them thanks to FDA regs). Should I eventually quit vaping, I'll have plenty of premium MODs, tanks, RTA's, RDAs, MECHs, and other supplies I can easily sell for retail or possibly higher... which would mean I've been vaping for free all this time I'll probably pick up a few more MODs, tanks, and coils for the SO and myself, over the summer... yeah, the regs won't mess with product availability any time soon, but I'd rather have them and not need them, than need them and not have them... same mantra for firearms
  3. Linked from the above article... "E-cigs not as satisfying as the real thing, study finds", and this is likely one of the studies the FDA paid grant money for, and then utilized the study in their research to create the Deeming.... First of all, the "study" was conducted in 2014 (when the CE4 and eGo were the norm), and it was conducted by researchers at the Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science (TCORS) at Georgia State University. It wasn't even a "study"... it was a SURVEY Survey details The researchers surveyed 5,717 U.S. adults in 2014, asking questions about their awareness of e-cigarettes, use of their products, and reasons for using traditional and novel tobacco products. Among the 144 former cigarette smokers who had tried e-cigarettes, nearly 30 percent (or 43 people) continued to use them as a satisfying alternative to regular cigarettes. But among the 585 smokers in the study, nearly 58 percent (or 337 people) reported they found e-cigarettes unsatisfying and stopped using them. Now, what I get from the numbers above... of 5717 people surveyed, only 144 were former smokers (2.5%), and 585 were active smokers (10.2%). Starting there, the study is flawed because you're questions do not have enough base to formulate opinion. Secondly... This is what I see from the data: 144 are former smokers, of which 30% actively use e-cigs as an alternative to smoking or cessation device.... and 70% have QUIT, possibly by using e-cigs as the tool to accomplish their task of quitting. 58% of the 585 active smokers reported they didn't like e-cigs... so, does that mean that 42% DID like them, used them, and quit smoking by using e-cigs?? Well, we don't know the whole story do we? This is because the study is flawed and obviously bias to report only the negative, not the positive outcome. They would likely say the same thing (people don't like them) if only 20% of the smokers said they were "unsatisfying". Isn't the FDA's own research showing that their "approved" cessation devices (pills/patches/gum/inhalers) only have a 20-25% success rate in smoking cessation/elimination? This study alone proves (albeit with a small sample) that e-cig use has a higher rate of adaptation and success... but you'll not see that in an FDA report, will you? This is the kind of junk science that we taxpayers need to be stop funding. This is one of the main reasons I stopped doing research and chemical testing for labs in the early 90's... All gov't funded research is bias, or at least has a bias (suggested outcome) before the testing begins. Data numbers always support the bias, rather than the truth, and even when you point out the positive/truth to management, you are told "to focus on the results you are paid to find" or "you don't know what you're talking about"... Well, data doesn't lie... only people do!
  4. If you really read through those regulations, you have to laugh... You can't take a bowling pin, but you can carry up to two 16-lb bowling balls in carry-on luggage You can't take a single compressed CO2 cartridge onto a plane, unless you also have an inflatable life-jacket... then you can carry FOUR CO2 cartridges You can't carry ice skates, but you can carry two stainless-steel knitting needles, up to 27" long You can't carry a 1" blade pocket knife, but you can bring 4" pointed-blade scissors You can't carry more than 3.4oz of liquid... unless you label it as "breast milk", then you can carry a gallon of it You can't carry a jar of guacamole, but you can carry up to 40-lb of avocados You can't carry a jar of cherry pie filling, but you can carry TWO cherry pies I know this doesn't help, but I thought I'd share some of their insanity Plus this bit of fun....
  5. The UK is embracing it (as are other European countries) because they are not beholden to the Tobacco lobby and Tobacco taxes they same way our government is. Sad, but true... It has nothing to do with embracing biased research or "junk" science... it has to do with embracing the almighty tax dollar! These regs are set to cause the failure of vaping, even through cigalikes. We all know how expensive they are, and how inefficient they are at curbing the need for visible vapor and nicotine. They cost as much as two packs of cigarettes and last less than what you'd get from one pack. Nobody will ever succeed using cigalikes unless they were determined to quit cold-turkey anyway. This is the design of these regulations... to kill vaping and prop-up Big Tobacco so they (government) can reap the rewards of tobacco taxes and tobacco settlement checks. Even if vaping survives, government will continue to reap huge profits from applications, taxes, and settlement checks (now that all vaping is classified as tobacco-products). Big Tobacco doesn't "win", but they certainly don't lose (since their product is "protected" and "preferred" by FDA stamp of approval). The only losers are the American people. The only winner is local/state/federal government.
  6. Yeah, 200 mAh isn't much of a difference, but I'll stand corrected, lol Two more??? So, that makes you 20 now? LMAO. When the FDA shuts down sales, you'll be sitting on a gold-mine of black-market goodies
  7. For a built-in battery, the iStick 50W is a beast, with 4600mAh, so it will easily last all day, and most people get 3-5 days out of a full charge, depending on how they use it. For long lasting 18650's, the LG HG2 and Samsung 30Q are both 3000mAh batteries, and would last a very long time for "normal" vaping, lol. On my single-battery mods, running 16-20W, a single HE2 (2500mAh) lasts me all day, to a day-and-a-half, and a single HG2 (3000mAh) will last two full days (usually longer) On my one dual-battery mod... I get 3-4 days out of a pair of HG2 and easily two days plus, out of a pair of HE2.
  8. Yeah, that one is not clear, but that's the beauty of "vague regulations"... they can enforce what they want. For the most part, "free samples" would exclude a vendor from adding in a free sample of their newest flavor, or like when the online stores add in a free 30ml bottle of juice to your order of tanks/mods/coils if you spend $x.xx on the order. I think by stopping free samples, this is in anticipation of applying sin-taxes to e-liquids. They can't collect exorbitant taxes on things that are FREE. I don't think they would specifically clamp down on taste-testing... if they did, Baskin Robbins would have to stop giving taste samples of ice-cream
  9. I've been having a hard time finding the 1.2 Ohm horizontal cols too... GearBest had them on sale a while back, and I ordered 8 boxes, but I'd like to stock up with even more if I could find them again for $5/box! I should have ordered 20 boxes when they were on sale.... SweetVapes has them occasionally, too... and the last 6 boxes I bought from them were only $8/box? I like the horizontal coils too... I have several boxes of vertical coils, but they just don't last as long, can't be re-wicked (as easily), and don't taste as good as the horizontals. At least the heads can be rebuilt... so if worse comes to worse, we can always rebuild them and keep vaping with a drop-in coil... and there's always the RBA decks, too...
  10. You're welcome Congrats on 4-yrs, Tam... Without you (and a few others) here when I joined Vapor Talk, I would not have learned all I have, and would probably still be killing myself slowly with analogs!
  11. With vaping being determined a "Tobacco Product" by executive fiat... my best guess is that legal enforcement will now fall under the BATF, because the FDA has no law-enforcement authority... only the ability to set regulations and approve/deny products/drugs for consumption/use. Either that, or our ever-expanding government will just create a new department in parallel to BATF which will have the sole jurisdiction of "Vaping Police"? At this time, nobody knows, but my guess is they will hire another 1000 BATF agents to deal with "evil vaping"....
  12. Well put @Christopher.... we will prevail... I've been through the Deeming, and it makes my head spin. The FDA is basically setting up these regulations like the Patent Office, where you must file your brief, do your studies, prove your relevance, and still can get told "no". @FXRich you are correct. Big Tobacco had their hands in setting the date, and in setting restrictions on "sealed" units. This effectively puts the likes of BLU and Vuze as the the only viable products. Juice manufacturers will spend millions jumping through hoops to get their liquids approved, but will have zero market if the only products available cannot be refilled.... It is a ban via regulation, yes... Personally, I thought of another avenue to sting the FDA with... Isn't there a regulation from the EPA which refers to battery waste, chemical waste, etc.? All these disposable cigalikes will surely cause some environmental disaster, right? I mean, rechargeable mods/batteries and refillable tanks should surely be praised by the Green movement....
  13. I got that too... more propaganda from The White House, which sugar-coats the issue... because... "it's for the children"...
  14. @FXRich I was fairly impressed with the Kanger 75W-TC. It is similar to the 50W non-TC version in size, weight, feel. Compared to my 75W-TC Wismec Presa, I like the Presa better, mostly because the controls are more intuitive and they lock... and of course the ergonomics are a little better. I do recommend the Kanger, though, especially when you can get the subtank top-mini with it for < $50 when you can catch a sale Now, for ~ $20, the Cloupor Mini Plus 50W-TC is smaller, and works great. I still prefer the Presa, but if price were the determining factor, the Cloupor would win.
  15. Will it work in Wattage mode? Yes... Will it work well in Wattage mode? No... You'll get the full benefit of TI coils in TC-mode!
  16. Wow, Tam... I've not experienced that issue with any of my Ni200 coils. All of my mods fire down to 0.1 Ohm, IIRC, but the coils are fairly consistent at 0.14-0.17. It sounds like the mod may be the issue... I think you're right. I wasn't aware Kanger had a TC mod with built-in battery, either... I have 3 Kangers... (two 50W and one 75W-TC) and all of them use 18650's, so I guess we all learn something new, lol... If they'll swap out, I think I'd jump on the chance to move up to a Kanger product with higher mAh and Watts? As for settings, I've found with Ni200 coils, anything below 250F and it's like firing a 1.8 Ohm coil at 4W... basically nothing happens... The setting I'm running right now on one is 425F (200C), and I could probably take it higher, although I've had a few of the coils do well at 350F, too, but it was a different MOD and different juice....
  17. As with any consumer devices these days, not all of them are perfect, and duds do get sold This is why most every "genuine" product from Joyetech, Kangertech, Eleaf, Vision, etc. will have a 30-day warranty, minimum. As for spares... we refer to them as backups... and I suggest you get plenty of them! We preach backups here, and most ignore the warning until they go away for a weekend, a day-trip, or get stuck working a double-shift and have their rig malfunction or run out of power... I've been through FOUR batteries in one afternoon of bad luck before... so without a few spares in my pocket, a pack of analogs may have been my only choice. Let us know what happens when you take it back to the shop.
  18. The eGo One VT from Joyetech... the battery light will flash if the charge is below 60%, so the question is... how fast is it flashing? If it is not firing the atomizer, it could be a fault of the battery, atomizer-head short/failure, or failure of the tank's 510 connector to fully connect to the center post of the battery. Each of these should be looked at. Do you have a different tank you can try? If it is brand new, and the battery is at fault, it should still be under the 30-day warranty period and should be replaced by the place you purchased it from. If from a local shop, I'd suggest taking it back to them and let them examine it (and replace it if necessary).
  19. Sorry Tam... I'll correct myself... the AeroTank TURBO uses two coils... the Mega uses only one, but is 50% more tank capacity as the regular Aerotank... 3.8ml vs 2.4ml. The Turbo uses two coils (quad-coil design) and has 6ml capacity.... my bad Apologies to @Vegasjewel on misinformation regarding the number of coils required for your Mega... but the act of cleaning I listed above is still valid, but you will only require ONE coil
  20. Yes, Tam... TWO coils... the AT Mega is a quad-coil tank (uses two dual-coil heads in parallel). Using two 1.8 Ohm coils gives you 0.9 Ohms of resistance, which when they came out were a novelty of quad-coil and sub-ohm in a standard "tank". They weren't overly popular, and you can see why, lol... replacing coils two at a time does get expensive. There is also the issue when you mis-match coils (1.8 ohm and 1.5 ohm), or have two coils rated/labeled the same (1.8 ohm) and they actually meter differently... it causes one coil to heat faster and burn out faster, thus resulting in poor performance and leakage.
  21. That's me... I don't charge my family when I mix juices for them, but I've never complained if they left a few bucks on my coffee table when they leave... It's always nice when they contribute to the cause and help me pay for the supplies... Bottles, PG, VG, Nicotine, and flavors aren't free, and I appreciate that they realize that... Although, I could easily see myself start offering $30 "consultation fees with free bottle of juice" if commercial juices start costing $50-75 when all the new taxes hit
  22. I haven't read about tax stamps yet... yet... but all commercial e-liquid manufacturers will be required to register and certify every juice they make, and yes that includes SIX different certifications for blueberry in 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, 18mg, and 24mg.... and that is just for 50/50 PG/VG combo... add another SIX registrations/certifications for 40/60... another SIX for 20/80... you see where this is going? DIY is not classified as commercial sales, but if you have a small lab and sell to the public (like Compenstine) or mix in-house like many of the mom-and-pop B&M's... you'd be required to spend tens of thousands of dollars to certify and register your juices with the FDA. Those who "mix to order" will no longer be able to because they'd have to register/certify every combo from max PG to max VG and everything in between, and every possible flavor combo they could provide. Oh, and if they change their formula to a different flavor % or different flavor supplier, the mixture must be re-registered/certified as a NEW product.... I expect base Nicotine to be regulated and only available to those with a license, but that won't probably happen for several years, maybe even decades down the road?
  23. ATF, IRS, Santa Claus, and of course State and Local government's ability to levy additional taxation under wide jurisdiction of "sin-tax" laws, now that the Fed has classified vaping as the same as smoking... I expect all vaping equipment and supplies to be taxed like cigarettes... 200% minimum. I haven't read it yet, but I'm sure all bottles of e-liquid will also require a Federal Tax Stamp (just like cigarette packs). In 1985, my cousin worked the books for a Lorillard factory... she said there was a whopping $0.37 in every pack... and the gov't was the real profiteers in the sale of those packs... reaping 400% locally since packs were just under $2 each. Places like NYC... 1200% markup just in TAXES! I've said it before... the government is addicted to our tax dollars far more than they care about the health of their constituents. They told us to quit smoking, so we did, using means they did not control (patches/gum/inhalers/drugs); therefore they felt the pinch in their pockets and panicked... Thus the need to regulate our new-found-savior (vaping) so they could continue to reap huge taxes, which they are NOT getting from tobacco. Now they will double-dip... regulation/taxes on the products (at higher than board sales-tax) AND by classification as "tobacco products" they get to stick Big Tobacco with the bills to honor their Tobacco Settlement Agreement, based on every vape-pen, cigalike, and bottle of e-liquid sold. Can you tell I'm mad as wet hornet over this??
  24. Congress has the sole authority, but they do nothing to stop these Executive Regulatory Agencies, like the EPA, FDA, etc. because they generate revenue by reclassification of products/services into different tax codes, and the fines levied by these agencies go straight to the government... Yes, it is immoral and unjust, but "legal" if Congress allows it to happen. This is why the whole of America is upset with our government... they have become a corrupt bunch of "ruling class", only worried about the revenue they can generate off the backs of we peasants/serfs...
  25. The AeroTank Mega uses TWO coil heads (Kanger BDC - dual coil). The airflow is adjusted via the air-flow control ring at the base. Take the tank apart... clean it well with hot, running water and then soak it in Vodka if you have any... if not, then hot water will do (not boiling hot). After it has soaked for an hour or two... allow it to air dry for overnight. Reassemble the tank WITHOUT coils... test the airflow, using the air-flow control ring to ensure it is changing the volume of air. Once you are sure the ring is allowing sufficient air, take it back apart, put in TWO NEW coils, re-assemble (with NO JUICE), and test the airflow again. Once you're satisfied the coils are allowing air-flow, disassemble, fill the tank, re-assemble, and let it sit for 10-minutes to soak the juice into the wicks. Try it now....
