True point.... the old screw-on cigalike replacement cartomizers were/are frequently called cartridges

^^ This ^^ Without context, I would venture a guess that "cartridge" may be in reference to a coil (atomizer head), such as a factory-made replacement coil for a tank.

FDA Deeming Regulation - What we know so far
Earthling789 replied to Christopher's topic in General Vaping Discussion
Any online retailer that requires a photo-copy of my DL is not getting my business. That is begging for identity theft, not to mention, if you give me 20-minutes on my PC, I could easily "forge" any DL you want, with any info and picture you desire.... Requiring a photo ID for online purchases is about as "reliable" as asking someone to validate their age by checking a box or entering their birth-date.... -
I've ran across my fair share of juices that sounded like they'd be good, but tasted like wet socks or rancid fruit. I think we've all had our fair share of those One thing which will clean up a tank really well is to disassemble it as much as possible, wash it well with mild soap, rinse many times with very hot water, and then soak all the parts in vodka or Everclear overnight (or at least 4-6 hours). The alcohol will disperse any water hidden in the nooks and crannies... and will effectively remove all odors and flavors. Air-dry all the parts for a couple of hours, and they'll be ready to use again.

Preserving e-liquid for the future?
Earthling789 replied to Eaglewtchr's topic in General eLiquid Discussion
Storing pre-mixed juices is an issue... their life can be extended by putting them in the freezer, but your limitation on how long they'll last will be determined by when they were mixed and the quality of the PG/VG/flavorings used to mix them. They say juice has a shelf-life of 1-2 years because that is the "shelf-life" or "half-life" of the weakest ingredient (the Nicotine base). Putting them in the freezer will, at a minimum, double the shelf-life, and if they are full to the brim (no air in the bottle), they can be kept frozen for many years... possibly even decades! As FXRich said... DIY is a better way to go to extend the life of your juices... ingredients can be frozen and kept far longer than mixed liquids, and when you want to mix a batch, you can simply use smaller lots of your ingredients, while keeping the bulk frozen and free of air (Oxygen). I do the same thing with my Nicotine base... I break liter bottles into smaller 240-250ml bottles and use them one at a time so the remainder can stay Oxygen-free and frozen. One thing to mention is that Nicotine base in PG lasts (in the freezer or on the shelf) far longer than Nicotine base in VG, so unless you are looking to mix 75% or higher VG juices... buy your Nicotine base in PG, or at the very least 50/50 PG/VG blended base. -
Need some help I stick40 watt tc
Earthling789 replied to Foofightervapegirl's topic in General Vaping Discussion
I've only used two of my 0.5 Stainless coils, but I've found they do require less Watts than Nichrome or Kanthal of the same resistance. As the guys above stated, if you're using 90%VG juice, the problem is with the juice thickness. Do as @Squid suggested and pull some of the wick from the holes to make it wick better... either that or thin your juice with a little water or PG. Very few "factory coil" tanks can wick juices thicker than 60-70% VG content. -
I think Jason meant the Samsung 25R2 (blue) / 25R5 (green) --- Just FYI Although the 20R are good 22A batteries, they are just hard to find (at a reasonable price)

Switching to vaping to get off those cancer-sticks will be one of the best decisions of your life! You'll be far better off, healthier, and you'll have more $$ in your pocket after you stop smoking and stockpile a few pieces of vaping-hardware!

One thing I've noticed lately is a lot of my Kanger subtank coils have been shipped with an extra o-ring on the bottom of the coil... especially those with white o-rings. If you don't remove the second/additional o-ring, the coil won't seal properly in the base, and will leak like crazy. Remove your coil and double-check the base of the coil, as well as the tank's base for an additional o-ring or any debris that may prevent a good seal!

MVP 3.0 Pro straight out of box does not power on?
Earthling789 replied to C3nturion's topic in General Vaping Discussion
I'll assume silence means it's working fine now that it has been charged fully (wait until light around fire-button stays solid, then goes off), and the proper resistance coil (0.4 or higher) has been used? -
Bump when you get something in vape mail.
Earthling789 replied to Tam's topic in General Vaping Discussion
Good advice, @Squid... I have a 2A charger in my car, and I think the ones on the dash in her SUV are rated for 2A as well, but if not, I'll grab the 2A adapter out of my car for the trip. I just looked at the wall charger they shipped with the UM20... 750mA, lol... guess that will get tossed into my box of useless stuff -
80% of taste is actually due to what you smell. This is why you cannot taste foods well if you have a cold, or stuffy nose. The remaining 20% is actually from your taste buds (which really only pick-up tart/salt/sweet), and dehydration stops your taste buds from doing their job.

Bump when you get something in vape mail.
Earthling789 replied to Tam's topic in General Vaping Discussion
Today's vape-mail isn't any cool vaping gear, but something I needed... We're planning a vacation to FL later this week, so I realized with two vapers, for a week, we needed a compact 18650 battery charger to take with us. We could charge in the MODs, but that takes too long, and I don't like being tethered to a USB cable.... So, I bought another Nitecore UM20 for keeping in her vehicle (permanently), and a Nitecore i2 for use in the condo (and we'll have a good spare/back-up for home). I got both, from Amazon, for $22, shipped PRIME The UM20 even came with a wall adapter and lighter plug... and the i2 came with the car-kit, too... I probably could have gotten away with buying only one, but you can never have too many chargers, right? -
This is a great place to learn from many "experienced" vapers, so you are in the right place Don't worry about your doubts, though... once you get started with a good juice, reliable hardware, and support from a few helpful friends... one day smoke-free turns into two, turns into a week, turns into a year! It is easier than you think, but you have to make the effort to push through your analog withdrawals by vaping more often, using higher nicotine strengths, and being conscious of grabbing your vape instead of your pack and lighter!

Welcome Francis! Best advice... buy quality hardware, buy backups, carry your backups, and realize half the fun is in finding the "perfect juice" and your "favorite rig" Tam is right (as usual)... read through the older threads and start asking specific questions on hardware, juices, coils, resistance, power, etc.... we can help a lot more once you narrow down what you want/need....

The kit you have is a Kanger EMUS which uses the same coils as the Kanger EVOD, ProTank 1 & 2, and Unitank... Single-coil (BCC), which are available in several resistances (1.5, 1.8, 2.2, and 2.5 Ohm). @FXRich gave you a link to the proper ones, and you can also find them online from many other suppliers. I find it odd that your local shop wouldn't have these, as they are one of the most common coil heads.

Local vape shop idiots. ..a rant
Earthling789 replied to Foofightervapegirl's topic in General Vaping Discussion
This happens every day in shops all over the country... Which is why a lot of people screamed for "regulation", when what we needed was "education". Far too many people are behind the counter in these shops because they needed a job, not because they know what they are doing, and unfortunately, the person who needs a good talking-to is the owner of the shop! I'm glad you were able to set her straight, and help her out. She would have been another statistic of those who tried vaping and went back to analogs, blaming "poor equipment", when it was just "poor sales staff". I think anyone who has been on this forum for more than a few months can extol seeing the exact same scenario play out locally for them (friends, family, co-workers). Fortunately, you were there to help her out and give her a positive experience in vaping! -
FDA Regulations and the consumer. What should we do?
Earthling789 replied to Robinox's topic in General Vaping Discussion
+1 on the sales! @jasonculp One thing we will likely see in the very near future is great sales in the local B&M's and a few of the online retailers? I've already picked up a couple mods and tanks because they were on really good sales (basically saving 35%). As I find more good deals, I'll not pass up the bargains What I don't use right away, I'll have for a rainy-day, or will make good $$ selling them on the black market IF the FDA causes vapocoplypse....- 12 replies

FDA Regulations and the consumer. What should we do?
Earthling789 replied to Robinox's topic in General Vaping Discussion
For right now... Don't Panic to the point where you'll spend hundreds of dollars and stock up on things you'll not need, or still be able to get for the next 2-3 years. Yes, juice left in the freezer will last beyond two-years, but why panic-buy $500 of juice you may not even enjoy the taste of six months from now? Sure, if there is something you've had your eye on for a while... buying it now is not a bad thing, but there's no need to stockpile like it's the end of the world. The market for hardware and juices will be relatively stable for the next two years, and quite possibly beyond then. Some of the boutique companies (that were only out to make $ on vaping) might disappear, but most of the large companies will still be around, especially hardware manufacturers such as Kangertech, Aspire, Joyetech, Smok, eLeaf, etc. In a year or two, juices may become higher priced and harder to find flavors/companies you currently use, but if Congress will do their job (putting a boot to the FDA's throat) by forcing the grandfather date to change... we'll all breath easier, at least for now, because what is on the market will be allowed to STAY on the market without going through the retroactive approval process. Personally, I did buy a couple of mods and a couple of Subtank Mini's... Yes, I was going to buy them ANYWAY, but went ahead and pulled the trigger on them because I found them on sale. I DIY juice, but I'm not going to go crazy stocking up on Nicotine, PG, VG, or flavorings until someone says "on X-date, Nicotine sales will be restricted to licensed buyers"... or "On X-date, flavoring prices will be taxed at 300%". Until there is definitive proof and a set-date for things to go pear-shaped, I'll just buy what I need, when I need it. BTW, I have nearly a liter of 10% Nicotine, gallons of VG/PG, and a shelf in my freezer full of flavorings... but I like to have that much on hand anyway!- 12 replies

I forget what the 10x blink means because I've not used one a long time, but typically, flashing light means the atomizer is not contacting the center pin, or the atomizer is shorting-out / too low of a resistance. If the atomizer is the issue, that is an easy fix (swap coils). If the center pin is not making contact with the base of your tank, use a small screwdriver or tweezers to pry/lift the center pin just a tiny tiny bit. It doesn't take much... fractions of a millimeter!

FDA Deeming Regulation - What we know so far
Earthling789 replied to Christopher's topic in General Vaping Discussion
My dogs are indifferent to vapor, but my cat... well, he LOVES it, lol... At first I always thought he was just being a cat and chasing the cloud, but soon I figured out he was actually liking it. Fruit flavors, bakery flavors, vanilla... he likes them all He also use to grab the smaller 10ml bottles and run off with them... well, he use to, that is... Now, I only use 60ml glass bottles for my personal mixes, and I keep all my flavors, VG, PG, and Nicotine in the freezer (upright, that is, lol). There's a few bottles of mixed liquids on the shelf next to my work-desk, but he doesn't bother them now that they are in glass, but he still chases the vapor around the room -

The big players like kangertech are planning to fight along side and support with big $$, but many of the smaller players, as I understand, don't think it will affect them, or are planning to get a good run for two years, and bail out. Sent from my XT1094 using Tapatalk -
FDA Deeming Regulation - What we know so far
Earthling789 replied to Christopher's topic in General Vaping Discussion
Today, I saw examples of true panic in the industry (retail)... I took my SO to tan at the local shop, which also has a small vape-shop, selling moderate and premium e-liquids and basic vaping equipment (eGo/Spinners, KPT/Nautilus style tanks, simple mods like the iStick, etc.)... they've already put up fire-sale prices on everything in the store. The gal behind the counter said with the new regs, they were told to sell it off because they couldn't afford to continue to be in the business of vaping. I know the owner well, and will try to reach out to him on Monday to INFORM him of the regs, and how they will not affect him as a retailer (directly), but after 8/8/18, he may have limited availability of products/liquids, and prices will obviously increase.... Another local mom-and-pop shop (actually the first shop I ever went into, and bought my first eGo's from) already has a "going out of business" sign in their window. They were closed (it was late) when I saw the sign, but can only assume they too were horribly misinformed on these regs and decided to jump-ship before August rolls around There is so much misinformation going around out here in the real world, and what amazes me is how those "in the business" such as retailers are not on top of the info through CASAA or any of the other vaping info outlets.... Yeah, the rest of us (consumers) are in an outrage, and there is some panic.... but it's not the end of the world (of vaping) YET... It's not a panic point yet... We are at Def-Con 3... where we need to be fully aware of our surroundings and act accordingly. We need to be backing and supporting the vaping advocacy groups such as CASAA and communicating with our Congressmen. We'll still be able to buy our mods, tanks, and coils... and yes, even e-liquids for another two years, at least! There is no mention of taxation yet, even though we expect it to be coming (God knows how our government loves our tax dollars). Taxes have to be set by local/state/federal legislative bodies. The FDA has no power to tax any product or even suggest a tax rate. What I see happening on August 8th is ... nothing... it will be business as usual. Sure, some companies will scale down or get out of the vaping industry all together, but the vast majority will continue to provide the mods/tanks/liquids on August 9th, and beyond... at least until 2018. Will taxes be imposed on e-liquids by 2018? Maybe? But it won't happen anytime soon. Now, all that being said... yes, I've placed an order for a couple of mods, and two new tanks... but I planned to buy them anyway. Yes, maybe I bought them earlier than I would have if the FDA hadn't dropped their bomb, but I fully expect to be able to obtain my hardware and liquids (if I bought pre-made e-liquids) for at least another couple of years... and hopefully by that time, Congress will have slapped-down the FDA and changed the grandfather date to 2016 so all the current, existing products will be unaffected and fully available forever.
