Bump when you get something in vape mail.

Thanks! Yes, I love the Penny... but only slightly more than the WindRose The Penny is heavy, and feels sturdy and stable in my hand... and it's just friggin' gorgeous! The lock-ring is easy to operate, and I love the reverse-thread bottom cap. The recessed button is not as easy, but not difficult either... it makes for more "positive" feel on firing. I've had it standing on my desk between hits and even with the button "unlocked", no danger of it firing on it's own (at least not yet). The WindRose is "solid", beautifully detailed, and the magnetic button is a breeze to work with. My ONLY complaint is the lock-ring... it needs to be knurled, or WIDER, or have some sort of method to turn it easier without unscrewing the bottom (which is not reverse-threaded). The machining and detail on both clones are fantastic. I'm highly surprised with their quality.... no battery slop, no thread-burs, no gaps... HCigar is getting more of my business! -
There are many good vendors to purchase from (avoid eBay when possible... clones and knockoffs 99%), but I would highly recommend the V|T Store (link at top of the page)... Chris has a great selection in the store now, and his prices are hard to beat! $27 for a Genuine Aspire Mini... https://www.vaportalkstore.com/Nautilus-Mini-Airflow-Adjustable-Tank-System-p/nautilus-mini-tank.htm

Looking for help on buying my first mec-mod

Just got my Penny... very solid, and heavy build. It works great with my tanks, and I "borrowed" a Russian clone from a friend... 1.0 Ohm coil and cotton wick... and WOW, but even my AeroTank works quite well with it One thing I've noticed most about the Penny is that it is heavier (just MOD and battery) than my MVP with a full KPT2 tank attached! I also like the recessed fire-button... you can stand it up without firing the MOD, even if it's unlocked... -

Well, my Windrose arrived yesterday, but I didn't get to unbox it until last night. The Copper Penny arrived this morning! I must say... the Penny is AWESOME, and very HEAVY compared to the WindRose, even though it is only 1mm larger diameter. I like the feel of them both, Though. The lock ring on the Windrose is a PITA, but three tubes and a nice carry-case make up for it. The Penny can be stood up, even in if unlocked, as the button press is recessed (which was not in the description). Both work great! -
Personally, I'm amazed the protection circuitry (limiters) would allow the unit to even fire with a coil lower than 1.0 Ohms... and I'm pretty sure unless they "changed" something, it didn't happen The MVP limits/stops at 5V or 11W. Using ANY coil below 0.99 Ohms, regardless of Voltage or Wattage setting, the unit will (should) only fire at the lowest available voltage, 3.3V, yielding the upper-limit (highest power setting) of 11W, and drawing 3.33A. Like I said, "should fire", but my guess is the protection circuitry would register a fault and prevent a sub-ohm coil from firing. I have no idea on the battery inside these things, but I would assume it to be a 7A battery at a minimum, and likely a 10A to reduce heat generated by max loads?

My cousin smoked for 20+ years, until she went to work for RJ-Reynolds... when she saw them sweep the floors after the shift and drop in all the "trash" into the tobacco hoppers of the production line... she quit cold turkey! Something about seeing dead bugs, spiders, candy wrappers, spit, gum, and things tracked in from outside on your shoes, all going into her favorite smoke just wasn't very appetizing anymore

I've seen the 18650 sleeves online, as well as my local vape shops, which let you use an 18650 battery in a 26650 MOD, like the adapters that let you use AA batteries in a D-size flashlight.... no need to buy new batteries... just stick them in a $3 sleeve to take the slack? Yes some people ask about a blockage issue if the battery were to vent, but the ones at my local shop are slotted top to bottom, and one I saw recently was basically a woven mesh of nylon or possibly Delrin... to allow the battery to properly vent if needed.

Considering I use KPT2's on eGo-style batteries... the size difference is quite relative, as the KPT2 is 5-6mm larger than my eGos. Yes, they look a tad top-heavy, but it doesn't cause any issues unless you're trying to stand them on a table without a "holder". As for using a larger RDA... go for it... yes, it should be much easier to work with I've no clue on performance advantages, other than the assumption that heat-generation would be better spread-out over the larger surface-area?

Yes, basically what FishGuy said... Charger, battery, tank, spare coils, and juices... I've had coils last only a week before they became obvious they needed changing (lack of flavor, hard to draw, leaking, etc), and I've had some last a month or longer... that is why you need spares, as they will always "Go South" on you at the least opportune moments Same thing for Batteries goes for coils... and tanks... you'll want to have at least two of everything... (or more). Your VV3 is a good battery, but what if it becomes damaged or loses charge in the middle of the day? You need a back-up battery, even a smaller or cheaper one... doesn't have to be another VV3. Spare tanks and coils are always a must-have as you try new juices, too... easier to pop in a new flavor into a fresh tank than to take the time to clean out your ONE tank and wait for it to dry, or have flavors mixing that you don't want mixed.
-
Hi, and welcome! The VV3 is a good battery, but as for what tank to use... there are dozens of "good" ones... but to determine which is better for you will be up to you. I'll offer some suggestions, based on personal experience: Since you mentioned Menthol, you will want to ONLY use Pyrex tanks. Menthol will cloud a plastic tank and eventually cause it to crack and leak Of the Pyrex tanks, there are several coil styles among the manufacturers -- single-coil and dual-coil configurations being most prevalent. I personally use tanks from Kanger (ProTank2, AeroTank, ProTank3-mini, EVOD), while many on this forum highly recommend the Aspire Nautilus tanks, I have tried them (not the new vertical coil), and find they are not worth the extra cost over a Kanger AeroTank or KPT2 with Air-flow-control base added... again, just my $0.02. I do hear the new design of Nautilus is nicer, but I've not tried one yet. The best thing to do is try a few if you can... but remember each brand or tank-style may or may not use the same coils... so if you have 20 different tanks, you may have to keep up with 4-5 coil types for them (more expensive that way).

Cart looks full... but you'll want to change that shipping address to Kentucky I'll chime in on the Kraken... I don't have one, but want one... and from what I've read on them, the o-rings are the biggest complaint, so be prepared to run to the hardware store and pick up thicker o-rings, or it may leak. I'm not sure about the one you're buying, but just wanted to toss that out there, as leakage is the #1 complaint regarding Kraken clones (and a few of the genuine). BTW, I love the look of the Brass Stillare... now I'm jealous!

Looking for help on buying my first mec-mod

I did a lot of digging before buying my first MODs too... I purchased an HCigar Copper Penny clone and an HCigar WindRose clone. I really loved the feel and all copper body (and contacts) of the Penny! I had never touched the WindRose before ordering one, but understand they are very similar to the Cartel in the weight and thickness of the smooth brass tubes. It should arrive tomorrow or Friday (depending on local PO), so I'll find out very soon if it was worth it! I also considered a Hammer, Cartel, Stingray, Turtle Ship V2, and Overdose... but the Penny was a must-have for me, and the WindRose was "something different" with a really eye-catching Compass-Rose design -

Received my Sony VTC-4's w/storage-boxes from Fadora today. Thanks Comp! MODs should arrive Tomorrow or Friday, so now I have fresh (and charged) batteries, waiting for their arrival -
The small cases are okay, but generally, all but the largest require you to "assemble" the unit, as they will not fit if assembled. I've carried my 1100mAh eGo with KPT3-mini just fine in a flashlight pouch/holster, designed for AAA or AA flashlights. The one which came with my AAA Mag-light works very well, although could be longer. The only issue with carrying in a holster like that is the firing button might get pressed by the pouch-itself as you move/sit, so you have to remember to power it off before holstering it.

I love my MVP, but didn't care at all for the iClear30 tank... I use my KPT2's and AeroTanks on it regularly, and ego-threaded tanks also fit nicely on it.

I'd been scanning shops and sites for an RDA, and I saw a couple of 5-post units... wasn't sure if one was a Patriot or not, but I'm not looking to build a 0.1 Ohm Quad-coil beast, so I kept looking Welcome to Vapor Talk!

Two tracking numbers received in email this morning... yes, the two MODs shipped separately But, they explained why... They apologized for not shipping on Friday. They said their main warehouse was out of the Copper Penny (inventory counts were incorrect) and they expected to receive new stock over the weekend (so they could ship both together). The Penny did not arrive over the weekend, so they shipped the other MOD on Monday afternoon. The Copper Penny came in last night, and was shipped separately today, and they upgraded shipping from First Class to Priority for both, to offset the shipping delay. SO, their communication may be lacking, website may not be accurate for counts or shipping progress, but at least they made a great effort towards customer satisfaction. I'll likely give them another shot at my business in the future, and hopefully next time will be better?

Hahaha, Yes, yes I did Waiting is not so bad... it's the not knowing that kills you!
-
Yes, I noticed that... but when I ordered, their "in stock" counter for the Penny said 102, and earlier today it said 98. Same thing for the WindRose... stock of 700+. I was out this evening, and received a call-back from their number and a message was left... all it said is this "Thank you for contacting us regarding your order... we have confirmed that your order has shipped already"... No tracking #, no date of shipping. If it shipped on Friday, it should arrive by Wednesday. If it didn't ship until today, it won't arrive until Friday or Saturday, so I guess that's not too bad if it shipped on Friday... that would be "technically" 24-hours after ordering, but it would be nice if their site updated the status of the order to "shipped", and they sent an email to confirm with tracking number. My best guess, based on this experience with them, is that they are a mom & pop drop-shipper. They have good prices and slow shipping because someone else is handling their warehousing and shipping details.

A couple mech clone questions.
Earthling789 replied to Dasfriek's topic in General Vaping Discussion
I think if you give it a 20-min soak (or two) in Peroxide, and then use a good copper polish to get into the fine scratches... it should take care of the problem. Using a copper pad like that won't hurt anything to work off any visible "pink", but the Peroxide soak is the key, followed by Copper polish applied/buffed with a wool pad (I use a Dremel Tool with a wool wheel, or a wool wheel on my bench-grinder). It will shine like brand-new with a little time and TLC. -
I've been using a NiteCore i4 charger for quite some time for my flashlight batteries, and just bought another one from Amazon for $14 so I could keep my Mech MOD batteries separated, and the charger has two charge ratings, depending on if you are charging 1-2 or 3-4 batteries at once. Charging 4 at a time, the rate is 375mAh... charging only two, and the rate goes to 750mAh (if you use slots 1 and 4, or 2 and 3)... 1 and 3, and 2 and 4, are "linked", which is why you should charge 1.5V (AAA/AA/C) batteries in pairs, in those slots, so you reduce the charge rate.

A couple mech clone questions.
Earthling789 replied to Dasfriek's topic in General Vaping Discussion
Automotive wet/dry sandpaper does contain Zinc, and Zinc will cause a pink oxidation on Copper, Brass (mostly copper anyway), and Silver-plated items. It can be a pain to remove if it sets up deep, and may require several treatments and/or a buffing with a GOOD Copper polish and a wool pad (high speed). I've seen a lot of Zinc contamination on brass, especially when wet/dry sandpaper is involved. A Green Scotch-brite pad contains no Zinc, and does wonders to remove heavy oxidation from Copper or Brass, but it also gives it a "brushed" look, too as it will scratch the surface. Most steel-wool has Zinc added as a rust inhibitor so the pads don't rust on store shelves from humidity. Once the Zinc contamination is removed and a good polish is used to further neutralize contaminants... it will begin to patina naturally again. -

Earthling789 replied to Dasfriek's topic in General Vaping Discussion
When you sanded off the black, did you use an iron-base sandpaper or steel-wool? Both of these will deposit zinc onto the copper, which will cause a pinkish residue/oxide/tarnish. A soak in Hydrogen Peroxide (stuff in the black or brown bottle from the drug-store) for 20-30 minutes, and then a good Copper polish like Copper Bright or Wright's Copper Polish will finish the job off.... Unless the MOD is actually pot-metal or cheap brass with a Copper plating? If that is the case, sanding off the black likely removed a lot of the Copper plate and you're left with the base-metal which could be anything... -
Newer to the vape scene, would like some advice

^^ This ^^ Also a loose or ill-fitting coil head will leak like this and flood the tube... might not be genuine?
